Notre Dame Opts Out of Bowl Game

with stuff like this & the fact that we got in over them, it makes me feel like there is still some sense & logic in the world. Propaganda. No other word for the way the committee & ESPN has handled this. Would Barrie even have been allowed to say this a couple of weeks ago?

I'd have never thought social media would save us, but in this one way it has balanced out the Disney monopoly. People with their own voice & more importantly, audience who aren't paid by ESPN can bite back on bs narratives. And they did, forcing an about face in just one ******* week(from vt to pitt).

Fvck them, let them grab their ball and cry all the way home. No one gives a ****! They lost and we won and that’s the bottom line.

In other news, ND has decided to have a one-team bowl sponsored by “No, the tears are real,” in which their offense will play their defense in 12 scrimmages. Lou Holz will present the trophy to the winner.

First of all, let me state that I am saddened by the current state of affairs as it pertains to bowl games. I enjoyed the buildup, anticipation, and pageantry of the events for the vast majority of my life.

It was 3 hours of free publicity for the teams and their league, a nice day out for fans who can make it, and an event for the players. It was a nice capstone, a last hurrah, for the guys who get reps but will be going pro in something other than playing football. It was an opportunity for coaches to get to know some of their "next guys up."

Unfortunately, the current bowl scene is the logical result of, first, the transfer portal, then the college football playoff. To some extent, NIL is also an issue, but that goes both ways. NIL can incentivize playing in a bowl game.

The Covid year of 2020 just added accelerant to the flame. The breadth and depth of opt-outs made the bowl season impossible. I remember when we had to withdraw our own participation in 2021 for lack of players.

But I think to the years of playing in the Pinstripe Bowl in particular. It's freezing cold, we're 7-5, and clearly the vast majority of the players just didn't want to be there at all. In retrospect, we shouldn't have bothered.

K-State, Iowa State, and ND have now opted out of this year's games. I'm undecided as to whether I agree with it, but I do understand it. The dudes going to the NFL almost certainly won't play, for injury risk. The dudes portaling are leaving. Lame duck staffs are better off inking their next job.

I'm one of those people who really enjoyed "the most wonderful time of the year" watching the bowl games. But there's no pretending that it's what it used to be.

I don't know how to "fix it," and I'm not sure it can be. Sad, but I've accepted it.

Part of it is the financials too. These schools have been signaling they are losing money bringing the bands, cheer, pep, officials, etc. The hotels, etc. The current model doesn't return on investment to go, in addition to all the others. That is something that has to be considered in addition to all above.

This 100% has only to do with corruption within ESPN and the SEC. ND wasn't going to play that game. I am proud of them for having big enough balls to do it. The people saying they are pu***** are wrong. The pu*** thing to do would be to bend over and take it. Allowing the network that colluded against you to profit from you in the bowl. Absolutely not! Keep your money!! Once again, Coach Free and the ND leadership having big ones and doing what is right. ESPN is just crying because ND is pushing back on their corruption. If ND could have gone to the Sun Bowl on CBS or Holiday bowl on FOX, they would have accepted. That is 100% what the decision was. A ***** you to corrupt ESPN.

I agree with the bolded.

You see you and your teams reaction...imagine being a Miami fan an having that sh*t happen to you periodically for the last 23 years. (since the osu champ game)

**** we are IN A CONFERENCE that screws us on a regular......Now others feel it....ESPN and the sec propoganda needs to stop at some point its killing the sport.....They will have 15 ranked in the pre szn next year to run their usual scheme again.

I actually like Marcus Freeman, but this is a terrible lesson to teach these kids.

I get why they’re ****ed — and honestly, they have every right to be. They didn’t deserve to get in over us, but they probably did deserve a bid over Oklahoma or Alabama.

But you don’t take your ball and go home. You finish the season.

Freeman is the adult in the room. He needed to be the teacher here and lead by example. The life lesson is more important than the bowl game.

NDfan, what’s your take on this MOU supposedly agreed to that’s guarantees a playoff spot if your team is 12th or higher next year?

I think it's absolute horse**** for the players they have who aren't playing at the next level or next year. They thought they had more practices, another game, etc. To take a stand, they took that away from them.

Obviously myself and all here cannot stand ND, but they got hosed. Bane, losers twice to Georgia, the logical thought process says they wouldn't beat them should they run the table a third time. So find another team that possibly could.

The idea that a team shouldn't be penalized for a conference title game is crap too. You're on the bubble, you better do better than they did.

Lastly, that FSU loss is a bad one. Bama should be out, no question about it.

The first sentence is correct. This is SEC/ESPN's fruit of their poisonous tree.

Tread lightly. FSU still trying to recover from their CFP collapse in 2023. Any program, even the holy peacock-sponsored ND, is vulnerable. Don't let it become the story after this weekend

I agree. Miami/ND are not enemies in this--I feel for ND because I was mentally prepared to be on the receiving end of this shafting by $ECPN.

Should ND join the ACC? Maybe. But as it stands, how can Miami fans sit here are laugh at ND?when it is only by the whim of the committee we are in and you are out.
