Notre Dame Makes “Golden” Hire at DC

He will do a good job as long as he doesn't run the Al Groh 3-4, which sunk him at Miami. This board can't wrap their heads around him being successful running something else. His success will bring out weekly entertainment from the morons.
That's the defense he has ALWAYS ran. It's what he was schooled in and it's what he's used at every coaching stop in his career. Maybe he makes a drastic shift in his defensive philosophy but there's no real reason to believe he's going to be doing anything completely different than what he has done his entire coaching career.

You know you could post in every thread on the recruiting board, coaches get assigned area to recruit. They might not recruit one player that they coach in a class and the next day someone is going to bash that position coach for his players on the roster. Al Golden will be running Freeman's D, not his Al Grohl D. We know we don't want him, but not a soul here knows what he will do with Freeman's D. I will laugh if he has Freeman's D playing.

And I thought Marcus Freeman wanted to succeed…

The question will be does he bring along his buddy to corch the secondary? With or Without him they'll have a very good front 7. With him they'll have a horrible back end, without him the jury will be out to how they run. But everyone thinking alfraud is a accurate reflection of what we saw here will probably be disappointed. His issues with us all related to what we asked out of him as a head corch. He was loyal to corches who deserved far less and threw kids under the bus as a direct result of those relationships. He had zero clue how to delegate authority & those things lead to his downfall and ours. But now as a DC his role is very defined. You take away all the extra things spinning through his head. Might be tough.

What color tie will he wear?
Is it still a process?
I don't wish any ND coach good luck so that's not happening!

Golden did very good work at Temple.... look at staff J.Day HC OSU. M.Rhule Baylor HC and Panther HC
and Addazio worked there as well. biggest issue was his loyalty to NO D and his 3-4 bend but don't break D.
he did get us thru NCAA issues and hopefully learned in NFL about D Bengals were pretty goos on D this year and #55 LB Logan Wilson played a strong SB for Bengals......let the past go....... all those guys in the past had no money and program was on ACC welfare due to lack of investment blame the BOT ....as much as AL

ND might be a better fit for the type of defense he wants to run. Plus, Freeman needs experience on that staffs. The HC and OC are both very young with limited experience.
No doubt his HC and NFL experience will be an asset to first time HC Freeman.

That being said, F..K the golden domers. Pun intended.

If he’s basically hired as just an administrator of Freeman‘s good defense, instead of bringing his own concepts, he can do that. That would be their best chance for success on that side of the ball. Golden can succeed as a middle of the road bureaucrat/middle manager and yes man.

If he puts his stamp on his that defense other teams that have decent offenses are just gonna eat them up in short to mid chunks, long drives, and score at the end. Just what we saw.
