noles HATE this Norvell character.

But they also had data on their side. Unless someone can provide a credible source showing scores of deaths, they're not canceling a voluntary activity.

We've already given in too much to panic. Things can only get uglier if people can't get back to their bread and circuses.
That’s “true-ish”, but not true. Speed limits were lowered (I know you remember the arrive alive 55 campaigns) and then raised. Deaths by speeding didn’t go away; theres definitely a correlation between faster speeds and more deaths (please let’s not debat that) … society just decided that a certain amount of deaths were actuarially accepted, providing they could drive faster. Data be damned. (Which is kind of where we seem to be headed with COVID-19…Just take the chance…).

I‘m not sure what you mean by “we’ve already given too much to panic”. I think…it was appropriate to an extent; you feel differently, but I don’t think in MOST aspects it’s too much.

It was sold as saving lives, but it came on the heels of the 1973 OPEC oil embargo. The campaign was 55 Saves Lives...And Gas!

It also led to the Cannonball Run, which is an awesome story that they made a movie about that completely doesn't capture the original event. Civil disobedience at its finest.

ESPN reported that the “boiling point” came Tuesday when Gov. Ron DeSantis hosted a roundtable discussion on college sports at FSU. Athletic director David Coburn said then that FSU is testing weekly. Norvell said Thursday that the Seminoles tested four times during the summer, with another scheduled Thursday. FSU began voluntary workouts June 1.

Thompson’s mother, Cherokee Grace-Thompson, said the roundtable discussion was when “things fell apart.” Norvell said FSU held a team meeting that night to discuss everything related to COVID-19, including the program’s protocols and procedures.

“That was one of the questions that was brought up by one of our players after the press conference the other day, when it was brought up about the weekly tests,” Norvell said.

Norvell reiterated Thursday that football is optional. Two players, defensive linemen Dennis Briggs and Jamarcus Chatman, have both opted out because of coronavirus concerns.

Thompson’s mom said he doesn’t plan to follow them.

Lool at FSU players coming to defend the program. Those kids complaining about being “unsafe” are going to be shunned in the locker room like they got covid. Oh wait, they do! Taggart was raising a bunch of entitled softies like Golden was.

I remember … and the movie.
I'll bet you do.

i have never been a covid denier but the entire idea of the lockdowns was supposed to be to slow the spread so that hospitals don't get overrun. there is risk any time a kid or adult interacts with another person and young people are going to do that with or without football. i just don't see the reason people are so reluctant to let them play. i think the big10 and the pac12 are full of it with that heart condition they are talking about. if it was a proven thing the players unions in MLB and NFL would have protested more.
It’s amazing that this isn’t talked about more IMO. It went from a “few weeks” to **** let’s see how far we can push this and crush the economy along the way.
