**** No To The Spread/Read Option

Auburn and Ohio State run power football . Read Malzahns book, he believes in power football .

Spread/pro-style means diddly. It's the mentality of the team.

People equate pro with power football and spread with finesse. OSU won the national title last year playing power football -- yet Meyer is an early advocate of the spread option offense. He won national championships at Florida running the same offense.

Malzahn went to the 2014 title game running the power spread. Clemson is currently #1 running the power spread. Notre Dame has had success with big, pulling lineman and physical tailbacks this season.

Alabama runs power, as does FSU, but out of a pro set. Oregon isn't necessarily "finesse," but they rely on speed and that can catch up with you. Whoever is the next coach, I don't care if they run the spread -- so long as it relies on the power game.

That's why Herman is so attractive to me as a candidate. I think you can still play smash mouth with his style, but you also are adding an exciting element to the scheme that recruits will want to play in.

Oregon is the farthest thing from finesse, especially under Kelly they weren't. Their line is consistently one of the net and most physical in the country. Just because they run a zone blocking scheme and utilize mobile QB doesn't make them a finesse team.

Where do people get tho shid? Oregons line sux and always has. You can't name two of their lineman drafted In the last five years. Totally finesse. And they get DOMINATED any time they play a team with a good D tackle or Sde. Fairley single handedly dominated their line in auburns ship. Boss took over in osu's. Oregon has never had a physical o line. Just leaner and quicker. The gimmick of the scheme with good skill position players is where the success lies. Mostly finesse.

Ohio w may spread you out.... But its still a power run game. Their the only team in college football who run a successful power run game from a spread attack. The only team.

And bama runs a 3-4. So running on them doesn't equate to power, just like we see with donofrio, you spread those big *** linebackers out and you read option the team to death.

You see what happens when you line up in pro set again bama and try to run.... You get fournette... 9 carries for 9 yards. No one is physically running through bama. Gotta spread them out or use finesse.

LMAO.

Oregon has consistently had one of the best lines in the country. Their zone blocking schemes are extremely complex and they have pumped out a ton of OL recently. What the **** are you talking about? You really think a team that consistently leads the nation in rushing is not complete with stellar OL? All these guys are recent stud OL who now ball in the NFL. They had 2 freaking first team AA last year. You clearly know nothing about football. Running a spread does not mean you run a weak offense.

Ohio St. rushing for 280+ vs Alabama in the 2015 Sugar Bowl = finesse football according to OP

Oregon rushing for 300+ vs FSU in the 2015 Rose Bowl = finesse football according to OP

Ohio is not Finesse......they would have never beat Bama if they were.

FSU self destructed and Oregon Properly Capitilized......FSU D was not good in 2014. JW carried them. You know that.

When you contradict yourself like you do, you look ridiculous b.

This is ******* comical. Ol boy says the spread/read option ain't ****. But then when Ohio St is brought up, all he says is that Ohio St is not a finesse team.

No **** dumbass. They are a physical read option team. Just like Auburn was in 2010 & 2012 (beat everyone in the SEC including the supposed "Smash Mouth" teams). Just like Florida was with Tebow (see Auburn). Just like Texas was with Vince Young.

What the **** is this cat even talking about?

Miami produces running QB's and a **** ton of stud RB's and WR's. Guess what system fits that talent the best?

And of course you can still win with the Pro Style offense with the right personnel. ****, give me the 1995 Nebraska roster and you can beat the dog **** out of every team this year running the option. But you have to go find that talent, when the talent that fits the read option is in our back yard.

The guy that started this speaking against finesse offense, likes Mike Leach who doesn't know what a runningback is.

Exactly homie! I was gonna say the same thing. It changed really every year, depending on personnel. They pound fools when they have bigger backs and run outside and do all the fancy stuff with scat backs. That's what all offenses do. Osu pounds folks

Running a spread does not equate to lack of physicality. It just adds a dimension to an offense. Look at the patriots

Bad example. Patriots passing game is an extension of their running game. They prefer to pound the rock. Stop that. They Nickle and dime you with that passing game....come up...they over the Top you!

no they dont. do you even watch what they do. they morph their team to the opponent. some games brady throws it 50 times sometimes they run it 50 times.

Yea I remember last year in the playoffs the pats threw the ball like 60 times vs my ravens (strong front 7 weakass secondary) & very next game ran like 60 times vs the Colts (no front 7 at all & good secondary)
It was comical

What offense would better fit all the athletes in the tri-counties, a spread/read option or a dusty *** pro set with a drop back passer?

See you think you are being Smart, but you are Proving you are Unintelligent!

I'll Answer like this: Amari Cooper and Calvin Ridley ran to Bama's Pro Style Offense. Cooper is cashing NFL Checks and Ridley will be to.

****, that dusty PS Offense!

Stop!

Miami's new head coach should definitely base his decision on which offense to run based on two wide receievers going to Alabama. He'd be a ****** not to.

OP advocates that OSU is not a spread option/finesse team, but does not want Herman who coordinated that offense for 3 years.

What the heck mang?

Fads come and go. Smart coaches will always come up with ways to stop the fads. There are two fundamental facets of football that are undeniable. Run the ball. Stop the run. Do those things, and you'll win a lot more than you'll lose. Both of those things require controlling the LOS. Fad offenses run a lot more plays, which exposes the playmakers to injuries, makes it hard to win the turnover battle, and makes it susceptible to fatigue. We see this at the end of every season with teams (cough...Oregon...cough), with the fad offenses getting beaten by tough, physical defenses. Chip Kelly offenses need not apply...GTFOH with that mickey mouse ****.

Dumbest fan base on the planet.

It's like you all try to out-do each other for world's dumbest porster everyday.

What homeboy fails to realize is that Miami could run the spread and have a Calvin Ridley and an Amari Cooper on the field at the same time with a Phillip Dorsett and a Stacy Coley.

That's the kind of WR talent we have down here.
