No Pena, No Haulcy, No LB, No DTs, No #1 WR…

What about LB’s?
In terms of talent I think it’s relatively the same. Def not elite by any means but I don’t think it’s worse than last year. Maugioa was a productive player, but he had his flaws. Unless Popo is ***, he should be able to pick up where Maugioa left off. All of this is theoretical though. Unless Mario has been below avg at recruiting and development, then some of these unproven guys should step up and produce when the opportunity presents itself.

Ill take our wr core over everybody else's too... baby jesus Jojo ny carr moore.. ride and die with them.. if i thought they were *** I'd say it

I think the portal has really ****ed with people's minds. People are really warped into thinking every team has multiple 1000 yard receivers or something. I'm not sure what's going on, but this is still college football.

Isn't Texas supposed to be awesome this year? Arch Manning going #1 overall?

He threw for 939 yards last year, 800 of those coming against Mississippi State, UTSA and Louisiana-Monroe. But OK, I'll give you that he's awesome.

Gunnar Helm led Texas in catches last year. He's now on the Tennessee Titans, which last I checked, were not located in Austin.
Matthew Golden was 2nd, and led the team in yards and touchdowns. Pretty sure Green Bay, Wisconsin isn't in Texas.
Isaiah Bond was 3rd on the team in yards. He's Gone....Isaiah Gone. (@JamesQuall, set up the electric chair, please)

So next up are Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore. Promising prospects, for sure. Moore was lower ranked than both Jojo and Carr. He's got 39 catches in two seasons.

You know who Texas got in the portal at WR? Emmett Mosely, a 3-star kid from Stanford who this board would yell "MID" at the top of their lungs if we took (although I think he's a pretty good player tbh).

Again, just another example of the landscape of college football. Big, bad Texas, they're gonna be amazing this year......they had 8 kids with over 200 yards receiving last year, and 5 of them are gone. They'll probably still be really good, because they recruit and coach well. We need to do the same, and if we don't, then it doesn't matter who the **** we get out of the portal, we're cooked.

CJ Daniels seems to be completely left out of this discussion. Guessing that means he's not WR1 material? I assumed with how quickly MC jumped on him in the winter portal they had high hopes for him.

I just think people are a little hesitant due to the injury and the nature of what it was/is.

Foot injuries are scary.

If he's CJ Daniels at Liberty in 2023, **** yeah. Dude was explosive as ****, averaged almost 20 a catch, was Top 2 in every category in C-USA that year.

But last year, he wasn't right. Not nearly as explosive, only averaged 11 a catch, zero touchdowns, missed time in the middle of the season.

Who is he now? Is he fully back to the 2023 kid? Then he's gonna ball. Actually reminded me a little of Stacy Coley at Liberty.

So we'll see. He's definitely a key though. If he really is all the way back, he's gonna help bigly.

He averaged 42 ypg and 9 ypc after he had his 100yard game against USF. He also no showed the last 3 games, 2 of which we lost
I wish we had kept him, but not because he was going to ever be WR1 here. Would have been nice to have a WR in the room who actually produced in this system.

I was optimistic he could be WR1 because I think he has the physical attributes and natural talent for it. I cant judge whether he was less productive after USF due to an inability to get open or if it was due to play design. Very well could be the case he got more attention from the defense, which meant X had more opportunities for catches. Would have to rewatch all the games.

6’4” 210 lb WRs that stretch the field and rarely drop passes aren’t exactly easy to find- and he was already on our roster.

Dont care what others teams do tbh

He could be. For me it’s more of the fact that we have so much production to replace that bringing in a guy like Pena or his tier of player gives Miami more maturity in the room and still gives the younger group the ability to earn the playing time and not get thrown into the fire. Our leader in returning receiving yards from last year is Mark Fletcher with 150 yards.

The offense will take a step back and Beck hopefully still throws for around 3700ish yards. Ideally we hope for something like below:

Daniels- he needs to get at least 700-900 yards
Trader - takes a major step and gets around 700-900 yards
Lotion - 600ish if they are going to also give him carries

That still leaves a little under 2K yards for guys who never played and need to step up regardless if they are ready or not. I’d feel much better off if they brought in a guy who we know can go and get 500-800 yards and then let the rest battle for reps.

That guy very well might be Ny Carr, but he also had a foot out the door a week ago for whatever reason.

Baby Jesus going for 500+

For me the biggest takeaways from the offseason portals

1. Winter portal season all day over spring. You can’t hope new guys pop in after spring. Spring should be about retaining your talent (which we did do a pretty good job overall). But shoot your shot in winter.
2. The earlier you have a QB, the better off you transfer game will be. It’s paramount that we get Nickel some snaps in meaningless games this year, if only to be certain we got the right guy and then sell the promise of him in the same way Uf did with Lagway.
3. Hopefully start listening sooner to Memnon and CoachMacho as they are either constantly evaluating/watching players from all over or know who’s who in the zoo as far as the local scene goes. Same with gogeta.

We do these things next year we will be dominant in the transfer portal game where we need to be.

Last season at this time, this was Clemson's offense:

3rd year Antonio Williams, coming off an injury riddled 2023 season where he averaged 10 YPC
3rd year Tony Stellato, he of 300 career yards receiving
True Freshman TJ Moore -- Elite recruit, 5-star #5 overall receiver
True Freshman Bryant Wesco -- High 4-star, #13 overall receiver
Lumbering *** Jake Barstool

All led by a guy who, unanimously, sucked absolute *** in Cade Klubnik.

They won the ACC, had the 18th best scoring offense in America, and were Top 40 in Yards Per Play.

All numbers I would take in a heartbeat this year for Miami (33.5 PPG).

I obviously have no idea, but was their board just complete widespread panic (great band, btw) at this time last year? Were they all calling each other names and their coaches ******* losers because they didn't get a portal "WR1"? Or did they put some faith that their coaches and players could gel and produce a competent offense?

Obviously this doesn't mean Miami is going to be as good or better than Clemson was on offense last year, but Trader and Carr were pretty **** close to Moore and Wesco in the rankings, and they both have a year in a college S&C program and this offense under their belts. It's not like we have a room full of walk-ons. They just don't have college production. Yet. Neither did Clemson, for the most part.

My point is, this happens EVERY YEAR in college football. For its entirety. That's the beauty of the sport. We don't get to sign these guys to 10-year contracts. Recruit, coach, develop, lead, stockpile talent. I'll take Beck over Klubnik. I'll take our OL over theirs. I'll take Fletcher and Lyle over Mafah and Jay Haynes (although Mafah is a good player).

There are tons of talented kids here. Go make it work. We sure as **** did last year.

Not a solid comparison. At all.

First, Clemson (until the last couple of months) took NO Portal players. So they MUST ride-or-die with guys like Moore and Wesco, since they were not taking any Portal WRs to address their inexperience. Miami doesn't subscribe to that approach.

Second, Klubnik was returning from his first year as a starter. He was not some "best QB in the Portal" that was paid $4M for a one-and-done year. So, if his weapons don't produce, it's not like Clemson blew a huge investment, as we did with Cam Ward by not putting a decent defense on the field in 2024.

Third, no matter how you choose to caveat Antonio Williams and his 2023 injury, he still caught 56 passes for 604 yards in 2022. In other words, he produced FAR MORE than Jojo, Ny, Chance, and Ray Ray COMBINED produced as freshmen. The same is true for Tony Stellato, you act as if 39 catches for 337 yards is some pittance, some unproven blip of output. Yet, Stellato's output as a second-year player is almost as good as what Sam Brown did for Miami AS A SENIOR (more catches, fewer yards).

Finally, I'm not even going to address TE. I'm happy with what Miami has there.

The reality is that we have THREE returning WRs who caught passes last year. They total THIRTEEN catches between them, for 173 yards COMBINED. Even sophomore Tony Stellato laughs at that.

Look, I realize that Clemson had a good 2024 with a couple of new WRs. But they also had two good returning WRs who each outperformed the sum total of our entire 2025 returning WR corps.

If you want to be confident and secure in what we are returning, that is up to you. Given Beck's struggles in 2024, it would be malpractice not to TRY to give him ONE top-shelf experienced WR1 with actual collegiate production on his stats line.

What about LB’s?
Probably the weak link of the team this year. But Hetherman is the LB coach and I look at Minnesota LBs last year. They weren’t spectacular but they did their job. He had a 5th year senior who had the best season of his career under Hetherman. His job is to do that here. They don’t have to be spectacular. Just do there job

Wrs not gone stop you from throwing picks. Beck will be fine he just can’t try to throw into double coverage

When did he stretch the field? His longest play last year was 30 yards

Posts like these kill me, lol. It doesn’t matter what YOU think. The STAFF wanted them, and they failed to get them here. That is all that matters. Not how elite or not you think they are.
mario won't overpay. period. he has a few guys every cycle he will go all in on.
Fans need to just get used to it

Not quite sure what that has to do with what I said, lol but sure thing!
Think the point was it’s not just staff wanted him, its staff wanted him with $X to spend. Gotta factor money into it, as that is the actual limiting factor at the end of the day….

Now can still say you failed to get adequate guy for money available. But you can just get priced out of certain recruitments…

Are you purposely disregarding Daniels?

Are you purposely not reading?

I said it wasn't an apples-to-apples comparison because Clemson doesn't take Portal transfers.

More importantly, if you think that the Miami coaches and Carson Beck are SOOOOOO confident in CJ Daniels, then why were they out there trying to entice a WR1 to jump in the Portal?

Oh, right, the real problem here is that I'm "purposely disregarding" CJ Daniels. Why don't you talk to the coaches about that, sport?

What about LB’s?
Id venture that as of now, not a single Sophomore or older LB on the roster gets drafted.

Maybe 1 or 2 will get UDFA or a camp invite.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same about the D Line.

Look at the D Line and LBs who just got drafted. We don't have anyone who comes close in talent.

Idk how some people don't see this.

Our guys are too small too or too big as well. People don't fit their position.
