No Pena, No Haulcy, No LB, No DTs, No #1 WR…

Are you purposely not reading?

I said it wasn't an apples-to-apples comparison because Clemson doesn't take Portal transfers.

More importantly, if you think that the Miami coaches and Carson Beck are SOOOOOO confident in CJ Daniels, then why were they out there trying to entice a WR1 to jump in the Portal?

Oh, right, the real problem here is that I'm "purposely disregarding" CJ Daniels. Why don't you talk to the coaches about that, sport?

Wow. It was just an honest question to your point. Not sure the need to crash out here. You seem on edge and triggered by the whole discussion so I won’t even bother.

For me the biggest takeaways from the offseason portals

1. Winter portal season all day over spring. You can’t hope new guys pop in after spring. Spring should be about retaining your talent (which we did do a pretty good job overall). But shoot your shot in winter.
2. The earlier you have a QB, the better off you transfer game will be. It’s paramount that we get Nickel some snaps in meaningless games this year, if only to be certain we got the right guy and then sell the promise of him in the same way Uf did with Lagway.
3. Hopefully start listening sooner to Memnon and CoachMacho as they are either constantly evaluating/watching players from all over or know who’s who in the zoo as far as the local scene goes. Same with gogeta.

We do these things next year we will be dominant in the transfer portal game where we need to be.
Regarding your point 2.

Infuriating watching Cam take all these excess late 4th quarter snaps to just hand the ball off.

Then putting Emory in to hand the ball off 10 plays in a row.

Then, when every game comes down to a last second miracle, Emory can't get reps.

And we're left with a backup QB who can't throw the ball.

What are these coaches thinking?

CJ Daniels was never brought in or viewed to be a #1 WR
I never said he was. I was just asking in regards to his comparison. I think original point was that Clemson had Antonio Williams, some solid production, and nothing else behind it. The other names was Troy stalleto had some catches. I think Antonio Williams, Stalleto, and those freshman is not far off from our room today Daniels, Marion, JoJo and some promising freshman.

Thats all. We don’t have a WR1 and I don’t think Clemson did either entering last year. They had success still throwing

Not everyone posting is trying to make a smart *** rhetorical point

mario won't overpay. period. he has a few guys every cycle he will go all in on.
Fans need to just get used to it
Ok. Seems reasonable, but when you’ve paid $4M (overpaid or not just read all the CIS posts for right answer lol) for a QB1, now’s not the time to salary cap his potential weapons. It’s like buying the car without the transmission.

Sure, want All our young receivers (was happy Ny back too) to rise to their given talent level, BUT to expect them to do it all at once?

So we’ve brought in 2 guys who definitely can solidify the experience part of equation but not sold on them giving you the WR1 talent side so much imo.

Like many, and perhaps our staff included would be my guess, thought signing Beck would grease the process but like some have mentioned, the timing dampened our bang for the buck to an extent.

Still, no excuse for not following Up with just as much $$ as needed to solidify “on paper” at least, the Big Tent Pole investment you’ve made for upcoming season.

Appreciate that they may have had “big plans”, but this is results oriented business that much like NFL going strictly to ROI model. Don’t know what U is spending nowadays combined on CFB, but just got to think that another Mil or two or three😉 got to be rounding error as posters like to say.

Go Canes‼

We didn’t play everyone cause they wanted to preserve their redshirts.

He does overpay. This is one of the biggest misconceptions being spread out there. And when he doesn’t “overpay” then our hit rate diminishes significantly.
Serious question, how sophisticated is the analytics capabilities in the athletic department at UM? Advanced analytics are a powerful weapon for competitive advantage at top programs in the age of NIL, but they must be advanced, which can be expensive. Quality analytics lead to less bloviating, less emotion, and less room for really stupid moves.

Pretty much non existent. But Working on it

Our Canes lost to GT and Syracuse and Iowa St last year.

How sophisticated can it possibly be?

I'd say <70 IQ

That's a serious problem, if true. I'm aware of a service used by a number of programs, including Alabama. It's essentially an army of very expensive data scientists. The founder cited building the Bama basketball roster that got them to the final four, and identifying/pulling Isaiah Horton in football. Point is, this is going the way of Money Ball.

Analysticsbis overblown

Coming from an analyst.

Its how guys like Sam Brown and Tyler Baron look good on paper and how someone like Restrepo doesn't get drafted.

It becomes a substitute for thinking and understanding the feel of the game.

Kind of stuff that'll always tell you to go for it on 4th down.

It's like the dip**** who got all sarcastic with me when I didn't mention Zayquan Patterson, asking me if he had some season-ending injury of which he was unaware.

A couple weeks later...

the usual suspects GIF
