No Pena, No Haulcy, No LB, No DTs, No #1 WR…

Have players committed elsewhere? Haven't seen a thing, too focused on the draft.
- Pena to Penn State
- Gooden to LSU
- Haulcy leaning LSU, Miami still fighting here but not likely as of this moment
- Hurst going back to GA St, presumably because of grades
- Williams committed to Lane
- D’Antre at DT committed to UNC, who offered more

Best case finish is Marion at WR, Bonner (ew) or Traore at LB, and Greg Smith is the consolation prize at safety if Haulcy doesn’t want in. Even if he does want in, we might end up taking both.

Also we don’t have a trustworthy kicker.

Here's the reality.

A true #1 receiver never entered the portal.

Trebor Peña is a slot receiver and we likely didn't want to commit that much money to someone when Malachi Toney showed up big.

We can get mad all we want, we have a young WR corps who needs to perform. That's it. We have a strong transfer in CJ Daniels and two very young but talented receivers. If Jojo ends up balling out then none of this will matter.
Not even trying to be a ****, but genuinely: what happens if JoJo is just a 500-yard guy?

I mean I wouldn’t even be mad at him, it’s only his second year and his first getting significant snaps. There should be no expectations, nor any rational posters thinking this guy is about to breakout into a 1k+, dominant WR1. What happens when (in all likelihood) he doesn’t play like a WR1?

Not sure why people can’t grasp this concept:

I like Moore, Trader, Toney, Daniels very much. Actually Upshaw is one of my favorites from the class

But you can still be like “what the **** are we doing” when the goal is the playoffs

We lost the TOP 6 receiving yards leaders from last year and the best QB that’s suited up here in at least 40 years

Help us Corey Heatherman you’re our only hope

Haven't you made it your complete identity on this board to absolutely **** on posters who make posts exactly like these?

Massive problem at WR, DT, LB and Safety. Particularly quality depth.

Better put everyone in bubble wrap; we lose any starters at those positions, we are BBQ chicken.

Except LB, they’re just all mid and it’s the worst position group on the team from top to bottom.

Corey Heatherman, you’re about to earn every single penny my friend. Good thing is I have faith in him to make this defense somewhat respectable.

Bad news is I don’t think we have the depth to hold up when regression for injuries comes full circle (we were the luckiest team in America last year when it comes to that, chances are we won’t be as lucky this year).

We also failed Carson Beck if we’re being totally honest. Relying on JoJo, Carr and Malachi Toney is absolutely criminal and unfair to both Beck and the WR room. That to me is my biggest gripe of the offseason. We have one veteran in there, and it’s not like he lit the world on fire at LSU.
Exactly the coaches had 27 WRs visit during the portal seasons for a reason. They know we need big upgrades.
We are in some serious trouble

Also you're right it's a waist of money to go get Beck and tell him he has to throw the ball to a bunch of freshman WRs

Banking our #1 WR slot position with a freshman is a dangerous game

Who said Haulcy to LSU Miami is clear favorite

We do have the 6th ranked portal class. Let’s not forget that. The spring iteration has been disappointing, though.

I just hope there’s not one position group that completely handicaps the team like last year. We all wanted a little more depth at some spots, but I don’t see many holes where we have no talent. We just have to rely on kids who haven’t played much, but most teams do. Gotta hit on these evals and coach kids. We’re all worried about DT and rightfully so, but you can’t really be higher rated than Justin Scott. The kid has to be an nfl player or you were honestly ****ed from jump anyway.

IMO teams go as far as their lines and QB takes them. I’m confident in both those spots. Unless some other room is a nuclear disaster like the DBs were last year, we should be very live for a playoff spot.

Really would’ve loved 2-3 more kids this window, though.

Unfortunately I don’t believe we are going to have a true #1 WR this year. In Dawson’s system though it’s not necessarily a death sentence. Our top guy was X last year. We just need Jojo to be at least as good as George. Daniels needs to give us Horton type protection. Ray Ray and Toney together hopefully gives us half of X’s numbers. This offense is going to be run heavy in my opinion.

Bingo.

I think there’s talent in the room for sure. Guys that have the ability to become key players for us down the road.

But to rely on them this upcoming season, when the goal should be to build upon a weirdly exciting / somewhat disappointing 2024 is downright criminal. At the very least, it’s irresponsible.

We just saw Carson Beck struggle all 2024 when he lost Ladd and Bowers, because UGA’s weapons were so underwhelming or young behind them. Remember everyone clowning Colbie Young because he wasn’t good enough? It had merit, but we’re in a very similar position at WR as UGA was in 2024.

Who on this roster can you look at and definitively say that he’s going to lead our pass-catchers? Who can you look at in a key 3rd or 4th down and have trust in that he’s going to get open **** near every time for us like X or Arroyo or George, **** even Horton did?

We don’t have Cam Ward running around in circles, making defenders miss and throwing balls in inexplicably awesome arm angles anymore. Extending plays, taking shots, scrambling for hours to find someone. It’s more traditional, it’s pocket passing, it’s timing routes and trust in your skill guys now.

For real we brought Carson Beck for a deep play off run maybe 15 plus game season for this
