NFL Draft Profile: DT RJ McIntosh

Love RJ, but I thought that was super arrogant comment. He just low keyed shaded every DT that was on the roster, lol. Like dam dude!
Or that every other DT on the planet who’s better than the guy next to him will face double teams. Or that our DE’s won’t face any doubles. Stupid comment and an even dumber decision. Only the most special DTs can come out early and both he or Norton are far from special.

I hate the "Its the second contract that matters, leaving early puts you one year closer to that" mentality. The average NFL career is 3 seasons, odds are you're not getting a second contract. Leaving early and sliding in the draft gives you so much less guaranteed money and you're viewed as more expendable
I agree with the premise of what you said. In RJ’s case, however, I’m fairly confident he will make it to that second contract (barring injury, which also could’ve happened if he came back, so that’s a wash).

I thought he was our best prospect and a borderline late first round talent that would likely go in 2nd or 3rd. I’ll stand by that assessment even after he went in the 5th, and I’ll go on record predicting the gmen got a steal and he will be the next cane to outperform draft position.

I'm happy for everyone who gets drafted or signed, but I know guys could be in a lot better situation long term if they were more patient. The lower you're drafted, the less guaranteed money and shorter the leash they give you.

Also, less reps to get better.

One of the lesser discussed aspects of being one of the late rounders. You are extremely limited on practice reps. Maybe less so important for DL...very important for say...a QB. If you're the type of player that learns by DOING v. the book, you better be an early round pick, especially at the QB spot.

Couldn't agree more
