We are at the point where our next coach must be an offensive innovator.

We hired clappy as a caretaker, radio as some sort of aspirational recruiter, gluten as some sort of ceo friend of dorito two-fer. Then CMR as ceo or something stable whatever blah blah. No alleged ceo worth his salt is going to even take the job in 2 years when richt retires to build homes in other countries. What’s the saying for fool me five times? We will need someone who can come in and make things exciting quickly, without the time to rebuild line talent. That means spread air assault. Generate belief through points on board. No ice cream socials.

What star up n coming ceo coach is signing up for a rebuild on top of a rebuild on top of a rebuild on top of a rebuild?

As much overreaction and over swinging the pendulum in the other direction usually leads to another ****** situation, I think this is where we need to be as well.

It’s an offensive game now and with our recruiting grounds it’s just the next logical move.

Briles is an intriguing name. Don’t get more “young, innovative” than that.

I would like to kick the tires of Matt Campbell from Iowa State. Offensive background, had some success in big games for mediocre programs, always seems to have his teams ready etc

Jason Candle from Toledo and Neal Brown from Troy are also interesting candidates that are already HCs

I will add one key point. We must have a good talent evaluator. So Fla recruiting is harder, not easier, because of the excess options. Very easy to get distracted by camp numbers. But which kids have the heart and grit is a different analysis. Butch was the best. JJ right there with him. What’s in a kid. It takes both confidence and insight to successfully go with tough over fancy.

Also, no more ‘narrative’ guys. Clappy continuity. Randy hometown kid. Gluten looks the part not randy. Richt hey its safe once played here not gluten. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I know people hate on Mike Leach, but the O would be fun to watch. As long as he has a decent DC, we'd do really well.

Before people say, "No South Florida kids would want to play for the guy." Well, what talented kids from anywhere are going to keep coming to play for Richt? Talented guys will come when they see other talented guys catching 10 passes a game instead of 10 a season. It would bring a huge excitement to the O, which right now I would kill for.

I agree with others with Briles Jr. We should get him before it's too late. OC, at the very least.

That includes all former Miami guys from 2002-2003. Schiano, Chud, Dorsey, Mario, Butch. None of those guys bring the schematic advantage that this program desperately needs.

Briles is NEVER coaching at UM.

Never. Ever. ever, ever, ever, ever, ever.

Kendall Briles. Hey, he even knows a little about SoFla from his year at FAU.

All he needs to do is show clips of his offense and kids will get excited. A bit of hyperbole, but you get the point.

Encourage him to keep Diaz at DC, or hire a top DC and let him run the defense. Having a crap DC like D'Nofrio on the same staff at Houston should make him realize the need for quality and recognize a fraud when he sees one.

And three, spend the money of top position coaches. They all can't be the top-highest paid but dont skimp where it counts the most.

Give me Briles and anyone not named D'Onofrio and I'm happy.

At this point I would accept Leach.

Disagree.

The most important traits for a HC have nothing to do with being an offensive or defensive genius, you can hire people for that. What you can't hire is a guy to motivate your team for you. A guy to convince HS kids they should play for you, and their parents that it's smart to let their kids play for you. You can't hire somebody to schmooze with donors and HS coaches.

I have no problem with an offensive mastermind as HC, but I'd just as soon see a guy who's overseeing masterminds and concentrating on making the whole show run.

On paper, Richt is what I want in a HC. His failure isn't that he's not an offensive genius, it's that he doesn't have the sense to hire one and concentrate on being in charge.

Yeah, let's go hire a journeyman Offensive Coordinator without head coaching experience from Houston.

Do you guys read what you type before you Post Reply?
