Newberg: Sony, Yearby, Cook article

Loving Yearby and badly wanting us to land Cook or Sony are not mutually exclusive sentiments.

That's the simple truth that the ****-stirring dopes on this board don't seem to understand no matter how many times it's fed to them. We ALL love Yearby, but that doesn't mean it won't be a major fail to miss on both Cook and Michel. As we proved this year, relying on an incredible but tiny RB as your only real RB is foolish.

Franchise: I don't deny your sentiment. But don't you think the inate problem is that Yearby and Cook have been sharing carries for 3 years. If Yearby was now committed to FSU I would think Cook would be ours no questions asked. It just sucks that 2 of the best 3 backs in Miamdade (not counting Sonny who picked UGA for reasons we cant comprehend) the last 10 years played for the same team and are now asked to share carries again. If they are competive against others they are competitive against each other. Maybe Cooks wants a breath.

This staff has done everything in it's power to bring in 2 of the 3. It's not a fail upon them if that doesn't happen. Sony was suppose to be all Cane, and at the very least we thought we could get Cook aboard. The fail happened last recruiting cycle with the lose of Collins. Add that to the previous staff not bringing in a single play maker at the position, and you have a train wreck at the position, outside of Duke.

Also may I add that these same posters are now also trying to push this fairy tale that Yearby is Duke 2.0 but the reality is Yearby isn't anywhere as explosive. You finally get it through their heads that there is a legit concern about yearby's size, so they do these mental gymnastics in their heads and now Yearby is just like Duke. Yearby is a great prospect, elite vision, cutting ability and balance but he is small, and when I say small I mean he is small and doesn't have the frame to end up being Gore, ray Rice or MJD. All small RBs but were built like bowling balls. Yearby will do damage here, he is very good but as a prospect just isn't on Sony's or Cook's level.

Now que the posters that will tell me I'm a hater and if Yearby was committed elsewhere I would think the opposite, when the reality is that when Yearby was committed at FSU most laughed at FSU for getting a kid that wasn't even that good. Remember when everyone called BS when D had Yearby ahead of Sony last year on his preseason list? Poster after poster said Yearby was pedestrian.

"Fairy Tale". LOL, the guy would have probably broken the Dade County rushing record this year had he not gotten hurt. Think about all the great backs that have come out of Dade County, and he would have BROKEN THE **** RECORD DUDE. The comparisons to Duke are actually VERY accurate. Duke is not the fastest back in the country either. Both are smaller but have elite cuts and vision that make them highly productive. Duke is not as much of a homerun threat as other guys, but he's a great talent, and so is Yearby. Yes, both are on the small side, but what can we do about that? And who the F*CK said anything about Gore? Duke isnt going to have as solid a build as Gore either. Its not like we didnt recruit the **** out of Cook. We also have Edwards whose a big back, and hopefully between Duke, Yearby and Gus, we will have some depth there to take a lot of the pressure off Duke. Any way you cut it, we will be in a MUCH better position at RB next year. Yearby is a great back and we are lucky to have him. Sure it would be great to have Cook or Sony to, but **** man, people act like we are coming off back to back MNCs here. This program has been irrelevant for a decade, two straight years of no bowls, on probation and coming off a nasty multi year NCAA scandal, and we are sitting on one of the top classes in the nation, with an elite RB that most programs would kill for. But instead of THAT being the narrative, it always has to be the "we lost out on this guy, or that guy, we FAILED on this kid, the staff BLEW it with that kid".

Its not like the staff hasnt recruited the **** out of these guys. What else can they do? Very few elite RBs want to go to the same school as other top RBs in the same class. In fact, the ONLY year I can remember that happening, was when we took Charlie Jones and Bobby Washington, and Washington never ended up enrolling here after his grades got flagged.

We got Yearby and are **** lucky to have him.. Had Coley stayed at FSU, its very likely Yearby would have gone to FSU, and there is absolutely NO gurarantee we would have grabbed Cook. He may have still gone to UF, or somewhere else.

And to top it all off, people have completely FORGOTTEN all about Brandon Powell. Powell is rated as one of the top all purpose backs in the country. Yes he's small, but he's incredibly quick and electric. Kid is a major talent and is going to ball out somewhere for us. Programs like Tennessee have been hot after him, and we act like he's an afterthought.

Problem is that we have some of the most spoiled, unrealistic fans in America. UM is a small private school, coming off a decade of mediocrity. We're lucky we arent looking at classes the likes of Duke or GT. We are going to have two of the best backs to come out of South Florida EVER on the same team, and guys are still crying.

Yearby is nowhere in the same universe as Duke in terms of burst. Not even close and those that push that notion are crazy. You are right, Duke doesn't have elite long range speed, but its still above average, while Yearby has average speed. Duke's burst for the first twenty yards is elite, it what allowed him to be an unstoppable home run threat in HS. Yearby is nowhere that, and it will be further diminished at the next level. That doesn't mean Yearby sucks, but he is not the same RB as Duke in terms of skill set. We need Yearby, and we should be thankful for having a back of his caliber committed here, but that doesn't mean it won't suck if we miss on Sony and Dalvin.

If you're claiming you can't blame them for losing Cook and Michel then you can't blame them for losing Collins either because they tried hard with him too.

And if it's all about trying hard, then you can't blame them for the ****** defense either because they try hard to put together a good defense too.

This is a results game. It's not a try hard game. If you manage to lose a life long UM fan in Michel and Cook, whose brother and teammates are coming here and whose parents would like him here, then you didn't push the right buttons. You failed.

Dude, they sunk all their marbles into one bag with Collins, and they got ****ed. That is how you fail like they did last season. They thought they had him wrapped up like Johnson, and were left stuffing Edwards into the class. This year they landed one of the four best runners in the nation. Along with BP who is all but forgotten, and have still kept after what you guys are clamoring for.

A class with just Yearby and BP would be a fail? GTFOH. Yearby is by far the better pure runner of the 3, and his only knock really is that he isn't as heavy as the other two. Yet they are not Fournette in that department either, and are not going to ever be. Guys are making it out like Yearby is some Ethiopia runt smh.

It would be nice to land Sony or Cook, but they aren't going to cause this RB class to be a failure signing elsewhere. Duke and Yearby mixed with some BP, and Edwards will get us by for the season. **** sure a major upgrade over what we had to endure after Duke went down this past season.

Franchise, I disagree. You cant compare our $hitty defense to us not getting Sony or Cook. And NO I dont think they try hard to fix the defense. Al and his boy are just STUBBORN AS ***** when it comes to the D and wont make changes to fit their personnel. AND they dont make adjustments when we are getting slaughtered by the same **** every week.

If we dont get Sony or Cook it will NOT be for lack of effort. **** even Cooks grandma said she is tired of seeing our coaches all the time. Sony refuses to let us do an in home visit. This is the ONE thing we have ZERO control over. If Cook and Sony dont come, what more could they have done? (Looking for an answer here from you..)

And Collins played everyone and you know it. Had his own mama AND his whole family thinking he was chosing the U. (the Miami Herald did an interview with his brother the day after NSD on the situation) Duped everyone in the end. Even his own family. Thats not Als fault. Took the prick at his word and he played him.

No, what we laugh at is phony people like you pretending you have a clue what you are talking about. Yearby is considered one of the top backs in the nation by EVERY SINGLE recruiting expert and service. In some he is even ranked above Cook. But sure, he's "pedestrian." Now THAT'S funny.

Once again, another clown making stuff up because I rustled their feathers and spoke the truth. Where the **** did I even remotely insinuate that Yearby is 'pedestrian'? Show me. This is what I'm talking about, because I point out that Yearby isn't the end all elite, which by the way, all your favorite CIS writers will agree with, it means I said he is pedestrian. It's exactly what I spoke of in a previous post, mental gymnastics. Reread my posts n show where I said pedestrian. I try to be real when I talk about our team. I give credit when credit is due and I will criticize n call BS when I feel its due. Then also read another posts in this very same thread where I said that we are lucky to have Yearby in this class. That last line was not my thinking it was to show the bipolar thinking by a bunch of our fans on this site. Whenever I would point out that it will be a failure if we miss on Sony/Cook, one of the first rebuttals I get is the, if he was committed to FSU than you would be whining that we dont have him, when in fact the exact opposite is true. I pointed that when D$ released his 2012 pre-season list on here, where he had Yearby higher than Sony, this site was up in arms, saying that he was crazy and how that Yearby doesnt have the same ceiling. Then months pass by and he released his post season list that had Yearby drop a bunch and all the writers and contributors on this site agreed that while he is a legend in HS, his ceiling was nowhere near Collins, Michel and Cook(who was the best of the bunch). Then everybody agreed and clowned FSU, and laughed how all their 2014 S FL recruits were in fact pedestrian. Then it all changed when Yearby flipped. I was pointing out the overall inconsistency posters have about this whole subject. In fact not that long ago a thread was bumped that showed this very thing, and it was hysterical. Take your emotions out of this and try to be objective. I also got blasted on here, when I suggested that maybe our WR corp, QB, and offense overall wasnt this top 5-10 machine. Guess what? I was right, and it wasnt because I was some genius, it was becuase it was obvious that we were overrating our situation. The second you say everything isnt all great around here people jump on you, and its these same people who freak out the most when their very predictions dont come to fruition.

I'm not going to suggest Cook was $igned, $ealed, delivered because I don't know, but we have everything in our favor (location, HS teammates wanting him to come, his brother attends the school, etc...), yet he's still given Clemson, UiF, and FSU harder looks than us.

Cook just seems like a kid who wants to leave. I'm not going to crucify the coaching staff for missing out him because they've recruited him hard as ****. So hard, his granny is tired of seeing us.

Michel's recruitment has also been peculiar. He was supposedly a diehard Cane fan growing up, and then he starts parroting the "SEC home atmosphere" ****. Doesn't hurt his girlfriend is going there.

The coaches put in the work for these guys. At the end of the day, you can't force a kid to sign. They seem to be giving themselves the best chance possible with all of the kids they're recruiting, and it's showing in a great class thus far.

Peach, wherever Cook goes he's going to have to share carries. And he'd be smart to want to share carries so he doesn't get run into the ground. Why not share them with one of your best friends?

I understand that you can't force a kid to sign. And I'm pretty sure that fsu (if that's where Cook winds up) won't have a gun to his head when he signs with them and neither will UGA with Michel. Recruiting is sales.

Sometimes, a salesman gets outsold by another salesman. Urb did it with Johnnie ****face. Walked into Al's backyard and took a guy who practically lived on UM's campus he was here so often. And it seems like others might do it with Cook and Michel. Key is not allowing that to happen too often with too many of the super blue-chip guys in your backyard, or else you wind up with UM fans claiming that Duke is more talented than we are.

I'm going to stand by my belief that recruiting is a results game, not a "try hard" game. You can try day and night, but if you're not pushing the right buttons or the recruit is turned off to you and turned on by something something else is pitching, then you lose. There are no merit badges for trying hard.

Coley basically moved into Cook's house, to the point that his grandma was complaining. Does that mean Coley doesn't appreciate Yearby?

This is the University of Miami. Home of Edgerrin James, Ottis Anderson, Chuck Foreman, Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee and Frank Gore.

Don't give me two 180-pound backs and tell me I'm spoiled. I want a 200+ pound horse that can run, catch and break games open. Somebody that looks like a future Pro Bowler. There have been three prospects with that profile the past two years. We need at least one of them.

Maybe the Franchise should apply for the head coaching position,if qualified, and that way we never miss out any recruits. I am sure he would have a 100% ratio and out work all of the coaches on Al's staff. I bet he would never lose a game except when he is parting the Red Sea.

I agree that recruiting is a results game, and we have a consensus top 5 class that's addressed all of our needs. I don't think it's a failure if we "only" get 1 of 3 elite South Florida RBs.
