New stadium venues, Overtown or Tropical Park?

The most logical solution is to go all in on beckhams stadium...I would love for it to be in tropical park, but let's face it, The county and its residents who don't care for football, are not going to support county land going towards a private university. The wealthy residents on the miller drive side of the park will especially fight it. The traffic for them will be a nightmare. On the other hand, beckham stadium will be just a few blocks from the metro rail. Making it easy for students and residents from Miami and broward to attend.

Beckham wants a 30k stadium. The dementions for soccer are wider than football. I don't see how expanding the stadium 10k more (40k total) for the canes would be a problem. And maybe a couple thousand more standing room only. FIU stadium has a platform on top of the stadium that wraps around 3/4 of the field.

If Miami jumps on this idea from early, they can have imput of the stadiums design. Leaving an end zone open would be another option of making it work for both entities. It would give beckham his target 30k seating stadium and would give UM the option to expand by closing the end zone For the extra seating totaling 40/45k.

The traffic would be for 7 days a year. They would eventually end up hosting the Miami Seaquarium Pollo Tropical Park Bowl featuring North Carolina A&T vs Binghamton

For someone that isn't from the area like myself, how much closer is Tropical Park to the University than Sun Life is?

4 miles vs 21 miles

I'm a UM student and I live right by tropical park so I do the commute multiple times everyday. It's not far at all but I'm not sure the roads around there could even handle that type of traffic haha, regardless I would be very, very happy to see us move to tropical park

I think that would be part of the deal, we would have to buy the land, fund the build of the stadium, and pay even more to restructure the outskirts to develop a better traffic system around the area

I don't even know if "develop a better traffic system" is even possible in that area. Between the Shula and palmetto, you have a tremendous amount of volume that would make a Thursday night game horrendous to get to. Even if you're taking Miller or bird to get there - those will be virtual standstills for hours on end on a weeknight. How do you fix that?

Not even. Would Saturday day games have bad traffic? Thursday night games would be a nightmare but we'd only have 1-2 of those per year.

As to Dolphin Stadium, the capacity is 65K and I believe for the Canes they will be putting a huge tarp at the upperdeck of one endzone which will drop the capacity to about 57K. College games are all about the vicinity of the fans. Do you recall how lame it was when we beat a then #12 ranked UF team at home? Did it feel like home field advantage to you, even though it was "packed?" The fans are supposed to be closer to field. The student section is supposed to be right on top of the opponents. The stadium is supposed to jump and rock. That's a college atmosphere.

Even w/ all the renovations being done, SLS still does not provide a game day atmosphere for the collegiate experience. Those locker rooms are still not ours...those SEAT COLORS have nothing to do with the Hurricanes. The renovations are for the Dolphins and the Dolphins only. Those renovations are for Ross' bid for the Super Bowl in the future and other major events....AGAIN, they are not for us and that's why IT STILL does not feel like home field advantage for us or a collegiate atmosphere for football.

But we've never had a college atmosphere. Miami is not like other schools. The stadium will never be small enough to fill up for most games and won't be big enough for the big ones. They sold 77k for the UF game in 2013 at SunLife.

SunLife is no OB, that's for **** sure. There's no WEZ in the WEZ anymore. Opposing fans aren't scared to park their cars. SunLife is just a bunch of walkways with a field in the middle.

I don't get the soccer idea. Sun Life sucks because it was made wide for baseball and soccer. It doesn't make for a football atmosphere. Sun Life will at least get some of this back with the roof.

With NFL football there's less conflicts.

In Major League soccer the only Soccer / Football situations that work are NFL stadiums. The Houston Soccer team had to briefly share the stadium with the Cougars a few years back and it was horrible for field conditions and for other issues.
They built their own stadium and now there's no issues.

A stadium closer to campus would be nice for many people, but I have a hard time imagining it would boost attendance that much. Miami people just like doing other stuff so if the game isn't a big one they aren't that interested. Always been that way.

I agree with this to a certain extent but at the same time it will be a lot easier to fill a smaller stadium with 40-45k than a 65k stadium, plus a new smaller stadium like will be more intimate and will have a college atmosphere

I agree, was just making the point that very few people in Miami will go to watch the team beat the snot out of lower Arkansas State, or even Duke. A 50% full stadium still looks 50% empty no matter what it's size, so we're still going to hear the same crap about how lame Miami fans are and who would want to play in that tiny stadium and such. I would love to see it happen, because that place they play now is soulless and no amount of winning will change that, but from the outsider perspective, I doubt much would change.

I think we need a smaller venue more than a closer venue. Yes far from
campus is less than ideal but the empty seats are freaking annoying and its not much we can do about it. Unless the U start giving away a bunch of free tickets to kids and organizations to fill it
