New commit! DT Ryan Fines

Saw Manatee play Good Counsel in Olney, MD a couple of years ago, probably before Ryan's time. Their DL was really good. Played in GC's backfield all night and limited Wes Brown. I think this is a good pick up for us. Kid looks the part.

Yea but once UF offers he gone

I wonder how many they're after.

They got two top 5 DTs last year, not to mention Clark.

I bet they're gonna be picky about who they offer.

At this point he's the highest rated DT in the state of Florida per the recruiting sites. Not that that necessarily means anything. Being a kid from UF/FSU territory I'd love to hear if he's always been high on UM. Considering our concerns at DT it would be nice for this kid to stick.

Huh? Thought ol boy from the Jacksonville area was the #1 DT in the state

Don't remember the thread but there was discussion a week or two ago about the dearth of DT prospects at this point in FL. Fines was mentioned as the highest rated DT in FL per recruiting sites. Doesn't mean they are right but 247 thinks so at this point: http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Football/RecruitRankings?Position=DT&InstitutionGroup=HighSchool None if this is my personal opinion. Just an observation.

psl, I think you're talking about this thread: http://www.canesinsight.com/threads/74031-Educate-me-on-2015-Defensive-Tackles

Good article about the abundance of elite DTs next year. There are 7 5* DTs according to 247's composite rankings:

Excerpt about the abundance of highly rated DTs (none of whom we'll probably get). Besides Fine there doesn't seem to be any DTs in the state worth an offer.

It’s a special class of defensive tackles

If there’s one position that jumps out so far for the 2015 cycle nationally, it’s defensive tackle. There are seven prospects that project at that position with a five-star rating according to 247Sports Composite rankings (five of the top 11 prospects overall) and eight defensive tackles total amongst the top 45 overall prospects nationally. This includes No. 2 Trent Thompson (Albany, Ga./Westover), No. 8 Daron Payne (Birmingham, Ala./Shades Valley), No. 11 Shy Tuttle (Lexington, N.C./North Davidson), No. 13 Tim Settle (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson), , No. 14 Daylon Mack (Gladewater, Texas), No. 17 Rasheem Green (Gardena, Calif./Serra), No. 34 Albert Huggins (Orangeburg, S.C./Orangeburg-Wilkinson) and No. 43 Jacob Daniel (Clovis, Calif./Clovis North).

Just watched his highlights and to me it seems like #90 is getting pressure more and causing the play to run towards Ryan. Could be wrong he looks good but #90 to me looks more promising on his own highlight tape. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1546521/ryan-fines

It appears to me after #99s hilites he has his head up all the time is a ball hawk and is always in pursuit even if he is slow.#90 however never pushes through double teams and he stops, does not pursue as he should.JMO

CI did an article on him 2 weeks ago outlining how he was offered by UM but both he and his family are huge UF fans, so I don't doubt if UF offers he is gone in a second. I get the feeling this is ryan Gibbons 2.0, in terms of committing to UM in order to generate interest from other programs.

Fines received offers from USF, Arizona and the University of Miami (FL). The Fines family moved to Bradenton from Colorado midway through his sophomore year.*

Soph yr in Colorado, looks very similar to his Jr year in florida.

I like him. Hope he sticks. And #90 looked bashful, Fines looked bigger, and far more aggressive.

Agree. He seems to get out of double teams and has a good motor. In one play he ran to get the WR on a screen and made the tackle.

This guy looks like a big ugly… passionate, high motor, strong, big body. Seems to follow the ball a lot better than #90.

I like the pickup. He committed so early. You'd think he realizes that UM > UF

I know lately this board has been focused on most of the skill position players but it's good to see two big uglies commit! Hope they both stick.
