Precisely. How any business savvy board member could condone James giving Rick an extension when there was

1) absolutely no threat of Rick leaving and 2) Rick had zero leverage

is beyond my understanding. It means James doesn't know how to do his job and doesn't understand that a smart school gives themselves an out in case things go wrong. Instead he handcuffed the school and ultimately his fate to Rick.

The good news is that UCF has a terrific AD in Danny White, who Miami should hire. Dude understands sports.
White hired Frost, then Heupel. In baseball, he hired Greg Lovelady.

James tried to hold onto Golden as long as possible, then got a UGA cast off and gave him a totally unwarranted extension, and then in baseball hired Tomato King Jr, who is partly responsible for the baseball problems. To put it simply, James is very very bad at his job.

If Miami hires White, then Heupel's buyout drops 50% from 10 mil to 5 mil. This would be the power move to get Miami back on top.

He'll probably leave before Richt's contract expires. It will be somebody else's problem. The way it always is with these fly-by-night types. ***** up a place, end up on probation, and you're long gone before that happens.

I doubt James will ever get a job at a P5 school again.Not with the resume of FCK UPS he’s had here.
