My Post Game Recap

I usually like to wait a couple of days, but I'll say a couple of things...I'm not a big offensive side of the football guy, but we seem to run the same 2running plays and lack diversity on route combos. Am I nuts, blind something else? Maybe it's personnel. Shallow cross? Do we have any concepts remotely close to the shallow cross? Moving the sticks, I was relieved to hear Ridht acknowledge the lack of this and how it wears on the the defense after the game. We have no bye weeks this gets more important every week. That jerkoff shallow kickoff with the funny formation? Remember the squib against Syracuse, WTF?! We won and that's great, but the offense(coaching/play calling & excution)needs to figure **** out and quick. This was a crazy frustrating game, a game we would have lost in he past, but that doesn't make me feel better about next week.

Appreciate the honest recap LCE. On to Va Tech.

Go Canes!

- Malik Rosier 16/38 356yds 3TD's & 1INT
- Travis Homer 16att 40yds 2.5ypc, 3rec 57yds
- Jeff Thomas 3rec 101yds 1TD
- Braxton Berrios 7rec 78yds 1TD
- Chris Herndon 2rec 60yds 1TD
- Deejay Dallas 1rec 49yds

Offense: Gained 415yds total, but was 4-17 on 3rd down.

Offense played like sh*t, this was our worst showing of the season offensively.
Either Rosier was legitimately hurt, or this was just one of his really off days, where the Hot/Cold Rosier just couldn't heat up all day.

Offensive line was pretty **** bad for most of the game, they were getting blown off the line like crazy. Darling, Mahoney & Gauthier struggled mightily. St. Louis & McDermott had their moments as well, overall terrible performance.

All Ima say about the run game is, for everybody that used to harshly criticize Walton for not doing anything against ACC opponents, I'm just curious what you'll have to say about this one.

JT4 is excelling with more & more playing time, he's really coming into his own & becoming the game-breaker a lot of us knew he would be. The Turbo-boosters are sparked up on his cleats & he's hitting Homeruns over the last 2 weeks. Richt has to get him even more involved in the gameplan, the fact we haven't run a single Reverse with him is tragic. And why tf are we not running the Bubble Screen with him either?

Gotta get the ball more to Herndon, he's a guy that gets better with more touches. He's a NFL TE, we need to use him.

Berrios balled out & had some clutch catches. He's really stepped up and put this team on his back his Senior year. The Patriots are gonna absolutely love him! True Leader & True Cane.

Glad we finally used Deejay Dallas, he's an explosive kid, he's quicker rather than pure speed, but his 4.5 40 was on display. WTH took Richt so long to incorporate him in the Offense?!?

Love Coach Richt, Great leader & great man. But for the love of God, Pastor please UTILIZE YOUR WEAPONS! If your gonna stubbornly be the OC, then damnit use all these WR's we got, run some more creative plays out of the 4/5-wide sets that get these guys in one on one matchups. More sluggos & Shallow cross please. 15yd Deep Outs & a nice Post Corner route every once in a while wouldn't kill ya.

Defense: Caused 4 Turnovers, but gave up 428yds total & allowed UNC 27 1st downs.

- Jaquan Johnson 11tcks
- RJ McIntosh 11tcks 1TFL
- Joe Jackson 8tcks 1.5sacks 1.5TFL's 1FF
- Michael Jackson 6tcks 1INT 1PD
- Sheldrick Redwine 5tcks .05sacks .05TFL's & 1INT
- Michael Pinckney 5tcks
- Mike Smith 4tcks
- Darrion Owens 4tcks 1TFL
- Demetrius Jackson 3tcks 1sack 2TFL's
- Shaquille Quarterman 3tcks 1sack 1TFL
- Amari Carter 2tcks
- Anthony Moten 2tcks
- Chad Thomas 1TFL
- Charles Perry 1INT

Defense did a good job causing TO's in the 2nd half, but the Run Defense continues to struggle giving up 176yds today. QB's runs have been killing us this season. We need to start keeping a spy on the QB instead of always Blitzing our LB's. Maybe Shaq or McCloud need to stay on the QB & not just aimlessly Blitzing all the time.

The Secondary had lapses on 3rd down. Offenses have clearly seen on tape that on 3rd down that inside curl route is always open, literally every team we've played this year has converted 3rd & longs on that route. Diaz needs to start dropping our LB's in underneath coverage on that play. That Corrales kid was a bad matchup for our Corners, both Bandy & Young were beat by him.

Loved what I saw from Mike Jack, he's become a real Ballhawk & is very good in Deep Coverage.

Redwine played his absolute best game, he's really developing into a good FS for us. Makes mistakes no doubt, but when her reading his keys & playing assignment Football, he's on.

For everybody wondering why Charles Perry get significant snaps, its because he's our fastest LB & is pretty good in coverage. He almost had a INT vs Toledo too.

McCloud is having a down year altogether. He's playing undisciplined & isn't handling his assignments, he's just basically out there playing one man Football. Not giving up on the kid at all, but he really needs to snap out of it & figure out what he's doing on the field.

McIntosh played like a man possessed, he was absolutely killing it on the interior & was even make down the field tackles. With what he's put on tape this season, we're looking at a 3 & done here. Hate that we'll be losing him, but Scouts/Coaches in the league are gonna love that kid.

Loved the Blocked Punt from Garvin, that kid has NBA type wingspan, he needs to get more snaps on those 3rd & long plays for us. He'll get sacks just off reaching over OL's and snatching the QB out the pocket.

Overall, I was completely disappointed we didn't crush this awful team, but if this is our worst performance this season, I'll take it. We still have a lot to clean up & we're by no means perfect, but as long as we continue to win I'm good with that.

Let's just hope Rosier, Richards, Delaney, Donaldson & Harley are all fully 100% healthy for Va Tech next week, we need all hands on deck.

Gonna have to play our best Football next week, it will be the most important game of the season for us. We beat Va Tech, we win the Coastal. I believe in this staff & this team, we'll get it done, Go Canes & Lets ride!

LCE, you are spot on, and I agree with you assessments on both sides of the ball.

Overall, the team just did not seem engaged or focused today. With that said, it is glaringly obvious that we still need an infusion of talent up and down the roster. OL especially struggled and showed its weaknesses. Need more bruisers in that unit in order to compete with the big boys.

We are really going to miss Walton these last 4 games. Homer needs help in the backfield.

For the love of God, they need to leave Robert Knowles on the bench. He is atrocious in coverage.

Richt needs a OC badly. He play calling is *** and only opens up when pressed for a score. Too conservative and unimaginable. Use your **** weapons, Richt. WE ARE A PASS-FIRST TEAM THAT SETS UP THE RUN; NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!

Only silver lining is that this is only Year 2 of the Richt regime. He's just getting started. Just finish strong down the stretch (target 3 wins out of the 4 remaining games) and win the bowl game, and I'll be ecstatic.

against gt the whole board was saying he was wreckless and overly aggressive, now he is too cautious?

Offense putting the ball in the endzone means more momentum for us, which in turn means bigger leads, which in turn means more uncomfortable situations for opposing teams, which means low percentage plays being called, which means shorter drives, which means less time on the field for our defense.

The defense is causing turnovers, but unfortunately, the offense is doing nothing with the opportunities. The offense is at the root of the additional yardage we're giving up late in games because our guys are in there for an unnecessary amount of plays

Execute the offense, score in the redzone, and run the ******* ball and we aren't having this discussion about our defense. Truthfully, we shouldn't be having this discussion about our defense anyways, they're the reason we're 7-0
All facts...

I'm a Pro Style guy til I die, but man we need an infusion of some Spread Concepts in this Offense.

We have a running QB who barely ever runs, we should be using him on Pitch/QB Option plays, just to keep Defenses from teeing off on the run game.

And why TF haven't we run a Zone Read with Rosier in the Redzone yet? Or, just fake the **** handoff, stick the ball in Homer's chest & hit Herndon/Langham in the back of the End Zone.

We're leaving too many points on the field.

100% Agreed. 5th in the country in turnover margin and 90something in points off turnovers is inexplicable with the talent on this team

Mccloud doesnt need to be on the field that much..To be honest they need to give his minutes to some one else. His next play will be his first play made....he is constantly lost..and never makes plays. At this point im all for Charles Perry out there more than him.
His 3rd down snaps should be split between Perry & Owens.

He's been taking bad angles all year & the penalties from him are just frustrations plays.

I think he's a talented kid, but he's mentally not checked in the game. He might be overthinking it out there & it's causing him to lose focus, especially against the run.

Bingo!! I'm telling you LCE, he's thinking too much. Even when he got beat in the 1st quarter he jogged it while guys like McIntosh chased down the ball carrier. I think maybe him losing his spot to perry/owens could be a wake up call.

As usual I'm a moron. In this case, I criticized Walton for being average. I take it all back now.

We are an above average team with a good defense, no running game due to loss of Walton and poor OL strength, and passing game dependent on big plays.

We have 12-13 less kids on scholarship then the 85 max.

We have a top 3 recruiting class and 7-0 record while are two rivals are sinking.

Give me the VT win and the coastal and this year is a major success.

agree

What frustrates us is UGA is savaging, but I expected that with the class Smart pulled in. Its like UGA rise ****es some of us off cause we have there x coach

Agree with y'all. We're ahead of schedule , but the schedule finally gets real. If we split the next two games and take care of business we'll hit goal. First acccg appearance.

A split in the next two games is irrelevant. We need to beat VT point blank, ND game has no barring on coastal race. I cant even think about acccg the way were playing. I'll take the Ws but not really impressed by our week to week play.

I should've been clearer, i feel a lot better about beating Vt than ND. ND doesn't count in acc play. Hence why I said acccg, my bad

I have to disagree. We all thought Owens and Perry were JAGs here. Perry had a critical interception in the game. For McCloud its a mental thing. He came on strong in the latter half of his freshman year. Don't know what it is, but all of our starting LBs have taken a step back to some degree. Pinckney and Shaq have shook it off and gained their footing; McCloud hasn't. Hopefully McCloud has a monster game next week and we all eat crow.

Agree 100%. Our fans should know better considering the way Langham has played. Delaney was apparently a waste after 2weeks. Michael Jackson was junk. Our DL was overrated, oh yeah, and Homer should be playing corner back after his 10runs last year. Canes"fans" love the hook and we should be happy they're just fans and not making decisions.

Go Canes!

you are right about LB recruiting. we need depth there. McCloud shouldnt have gotten that late hit all though.

Yo, imagine how nice Jeff Thomas could be if he had Cager's speed? Dwinstitles

LOL

Cager will never see the field again or shouldnt, I called him a JAG since day one and people said he was bama bound lol............CRAZY

I just think he came back to early. You were the same dude talking **** about Langham and Rosier. I put you in the same boat as Rokulika you just talk to hear yourself talk. Same **** you pulled on scout back in the day. Lmao

Perry was lost on their last TD as well.

Perry is not the answer.. I will disagree with everyone. I don't care if he made his 1st career interception. This dude is the definition of average.

Perry is definitely not starting caliber... we don't have the depth at safety to move Amari Carter but he would be the perfect addition to our starting unit in McClouds spot.

I honestly don't know what to say about the number of turnovers we're getting and the amount we aren't scoring. It's frustrating as ****. I have no doubt we can beat VT & ND, but can we keep making plays at the right times often enough to beat both? Who knows. Like every other week, I'm just focused on winning one more.
Agree with you 100%

We are 91st in the country on Points scored off Turnovers. That's just insane considering how much talent we have at the skill positions.

Our Redzone Offense is horrendous, and while the OL plays a huge part in that, a lot of it is on Play call & execution.

Our Defense is getting key Turnovers and it's a shame the offense cant capitalize off it.

We should've dominated this game, it shouldn't have been close at all.

But I'm still confident we can beat Va Tech next week, just hope this team gets healthy & plays up to the competition.

How dare you question the play calling or the offense. People like dongpoolgagger will be here to rip you.

We know Malik is flawed but we have had a ton of drops and this OL is not very good. Darling is soft as twinkee filling.we really need to develop Donaldson, Herbert, and Gaynor for next year. Hopefully Hillary has something too. Homer is running into walls.

I bet if you ask Homer, he'll tell you it's like looking at a Defensive Line posing for a picture.

people complain about playbook, it might be off but our best wr is hurt. we have a average, at best, OL, and our top RB is out and apparently trayone is not the
barry sanders
this board thought he would be, burns is hurt,
and deejay is a true fresh. our problem isnt even the playbook, its execution.

You might want to look up what UNC was playing without.

They were lucky to have enough players to field a team.

Once again I'm baffled by the usage of Chris Herndon

ive given up on trying to figure it out. I mean last year i was having a hard time with Njoku's usage. This year is even more confusing...other than a bubble and the post today...we have NO plays in the playbook for him at all. Dude is a serious threat.
Our ineptitude on 3rd down and his absolute refusal to go down on first or second contact is what I really just don't get. You can't stop him for less than 3 or 4 yards.

[TWEET]924444146617716737[/TWEET]

I feel his pain most weeks but **** unc is 1-8 and missing over half their team. With all the close calls I expected a better performance, but the D has no gripe from me the last two weeks. No issue.

The defense is fine. We gave up to trick plays. That happens against an aggressive D.

My biggest issue at the end of last week and at the end of today's game, is why not put a spy out there on the QB. It was so obvious that all that kid wanted to do was run. He wasn't even looking down field to throw. He was looking around to figure out the best place to run to. We have the athletes to put a spy out there and stop this nonsense.

Rosier was horrendous today. He better get it together this week in practice.
