I will be all over Fall camp to see our starting WR lineup. Everything starts and ends with the slot in Dawson's O. I would start JoJo a slot against ND. Lofton is in some slot. Let's go, Canes. Stack the box against ND and force Carr to beat you. Add Toure and Scott and let's ride.

I excerpted the key points from your post.

The optimist believes that Hetherman is known for doing more with less and that we added more talent (especially at DB) so will see a 2016 level improvement.

The pessimist says we were so atrocious last year Herherman can’t possibly turn the defense into a high functioning operation especially since we don’t have a reliable S2 or MLB and it’s unrealistic to believe none of our three starters at DT get injured.

Would have been nice to have more pieces in place to not put so much pressure on Hetherman.

Looks like we can strike S2 off the list. Should be able to scape something together between Thomas and Scott (yes I know Scott might play Nickel, but we've got a good chess piece there). Now go get Toure and find a grad transfer at DT.

Has Scott played safety before? Could not find anything but have seen some mention him playing some safety (in addition to nickel).

No, he has never played Safety and won’t be playing it here.

I expect some reshuffling because of the Scott transfer. Thomas is pretty good and Brown is going to see the field. There are enough parts now that the S depth isn’t as much of a concern to me.

I'd imagine that if we let Toure leave Miami without locking down a deal, then we had medical concerns and he will not be a Cane.

Just an educated guess.
I thought it was report that they did the medical on him and everything checked out

Probably has already been mentioned but did this dude tear his ACL twice in the same knee or is it one ACL tear for each knee? Any reports of his progress coming off of that? Looks like he's only 9 months removed from the injury

On the ITU podcast today, I thought Gaby and Lake were practically penciling Toure into our roster. Did anyone else hear it the same way I did?

He's lined up in the box a pretty good amount early in his career, (and some as a FS as well) but that may have been how the previous DC moved the nickle around.

A lot of gray area between nickles/#3 safeties in today's game.

Sounds like he will play nickle, but I think he could learn safety if needed due to that experience. And he may be better safety compared to outside corner obviously where he struggled last year.
