Missed Tackles

He shares a lot of the blame for sure.

But the players also have to take accountability. Some of those you just got to make.

You got in one frame 3 dudes with an angle on their rb , they got him dead to rights with the sideline on his six and they still allowed a huge gain.

The other Thorton is literally right in front of him ( after a Dunningan missed tackle) and gets run over.

Unacceptable effort.
Guess you didnt get my sarcasm

Scrap the zone. We have the athletes to play man and if we get beaten we can score. If we play mand and blitz we can get some stops
I don’t care whether you go zone or man. Just change the post snap picture more and I’m asking please god, send the backers on the blitz and not leave them in coverage.
Notre Dame is going to prepare all week to beat our zone if we come out in man coverage that'll be some gangster coaching

I’ve been harping on tackling since week one. This isn’t a bad tackling team , it’s an atrocious tackling team. Horrible technique and even worse effort. We’re entering the Manny Diaz tackling level. Which I didn’t think was possible.

Teams that win natties typically are a minimum of top 25 in tackling and tend to be more towards top ten . That’s just going back this decade. We’ve been in the 100’s most of the year and after the last game i’d wager it’s more 110’s-120’s.

The defense is already forcing the offense to be super human but this can’t continue if we want to hit all of our goals. Expecting the offense to score 6-7 drives won’t cut it against good teams. Things have to improve dramatically.

Players are thinking too much...confidence goes down and it trickles down to everything, not just coverages & assignments but tackling as well.
Yes. When teams mutiny and quit on a coach, the WRs are usually the initial catalysts on offense and the DBs are usually the catalysts on defense, and the sentiment spreads from there. DBs show their dismay on the field with missed tackles and poor focus (blown assignments). WRs show it with dropped passes and lazy route running.

Some defensive players (namely DBs) probably believe that Heatherman’s scheme, tendencies, adjustments and personnel decisions SINCE and in response to the injuries to OJ, Jabari Antoine and X Lucus have put them in a position to be unsuccessful. His adjustment to more soft zone, provenly unsuccessful personnel decision of having Chase and Mo in coverage, and the “bend but don’t break” mentality, has them playing lackluster and uninspired football.

They feel out schemed and outsmarted and that’s when poor tackling takes effect.

There is no way that our DBs play zone defense this poorly at full focus, effort and motivation. Theres a clear disconnect and Heatherman needs to connect with them this week. It happened last year and it can happen again. He can fix this by changing his tendencies and personnel groupings at key junctures in the game. There’s a reason NC State blew out their next opponent after their coach got fired, every team had this response to change.

Heatherman needs to figuratively fire himself this week, and call this game the way his replacement would hypothetically. The players will respond to a more aggressive adjustment that shows trust in their abilities.

First real gain for them was Lucas making a terrible tackle and it went for about 30. On another play, Poyser took one of the worst, shallow angles I have ever seen. Must have thought the dude was going to stand still or hit the reverse button on the sideline.

Many of these third downs or second and longs could have been avoided by the first guy at the point of attack driving through the ball handler. This is completely inexcusable in the 8th game of the year. We are close to the ball ready to make plays most of the time, which is so frustrating when we give up chunk plays for no reason.

We can't tackle because the DBs' feelings are hurt?
