You just have to drill it over and over and over and over again. I'm sure the staff is doing nothing different this year than they were last year. Kids are just making more mistakes. I don't have any data but I'm thinking we've probably had about as many false starts through 6 games this year as we did in 12 games last year. Again, could be wrong. That's just how it seems, though.

Of course the coaches are going nuts. During the games and during practice. Everyone understands this **** cannot happen. But I really can't give you an answer on why it does. If I could, I'd be coaching the offensive line for an NFL team and we wouldn't have any false starts. It's just a lack of focus.

All fair points. I thnk your last sentence is the entire issue in a nutshell.
The only thing I might add would be reduction of snaps, but if the guy(s) behind them aren't nearly as good, do you penalize the entire team to make a point? I don't have that answer.

Can you tell us what the qualifications are for the role? Did he need to be a RB coach or coordinator prior?

Not gonna dispute that, but at what point are you punishing the rest of the team for putting Brockermeyer and Honcho on the bench? Or Cici? Or Coop? Or Bell? My point is it's easy to say BENCH HIM! on a message board, but when you're the guy that has to actually make that move, do you want Nino Bettencourt or SJ Alottavowels coming in for Brockermeyer? You want Max Buchanon filling in for Cooper? If I'm Beck or Jordan Lyle, I'll deal with the 5 yard false starts and stay alive. Also, what's to say that the backups won't false start either?
I'm not picking on you or ripping your answer - I actually just replied to another message and included the bench as a possible solution. I just don't think it's that easy.

According to many here Dawson sucked Cam just carried him last year

Imagine my surprise to see people turn on Cam and say he’s missing wide open receivers…yet somehow the OC still sucks?

But yeah I’m sure Dawson is just a passing game savant that has no clue how to scheme up any run plays

no one is saying dawson doesnt call plays. its not his run scheme. mirabal designs the run schemes and dawson said as much in his interviews that was posted here a few weeks ago.

he gives dawson his play sheet for runs and dawson rolls with that. sure, **** take some liberties with it here and there with some override decisions, but he doesnt scheme the run game. same with mario and his override decisions over play calls.
 
I truly believe that the O line didn’t show up for the Louisville game. They got smacked around and beat. The play calling had no answer for it and it’s ridiculous to play not to lose even when you’re down. I find it discouraging when you keep running in to a wall and with all that talent you have nothing in the play book. Maybe a trick play or maybe something Louisville hasn’t seen on tape.

there is a diff between not knowing and not in charge of. hes essentially the pass game coordinator. mirabal and mario designs the run scheme. its the same scheme from oregon.

what they want to do ideally - aside from cam ward just changing the calls - is get a few yards are on first and secodn down to make it 3rd and 5 and keep going down the field that way. it worked in week 1 and in the rain against UF, but it did not work against FSU once they adjusted and crashed the gaps. Lville did the same. SMU will do the same thing. Pitt will do it. Dorean will do it.

we need to change our run scheme up

The problem with this thread is people don't know how most coaching staffs work out a gameplan. If you think Dawson is up ripping darts all night putting a game plan together and then giving it out to the staff for install.....yeah not how it works. Everyone from the coordinator down the GA's has a role in game prep.


Specifically, the Run Game Coordinator/OL Coach has a role in building the run game for each opponent. He's feeding all of the relevant information to the coordinator to complete a gameplan. Here are the fronts they run vs our formations, what they do on down/distance, what do they do when they're giving up big runs, on and on.

The idea that Mirabal just runs drills but isn't qualified to break down film on an opponent is incredibly low IQ even for this board.
