Midseason Surprises/Disappointments

Surprises?
JHH and Porter. Not even close with who’s third , Maybe Jaden Davis.

On the negative I’m shocked D Brown and Richard haven’t got more pt.
Richard and brown gotta get some burn soon cant run out Davis against fsu he’s got picked on the last two weeks

Disappoinment
- Safety Depth. Williams played all 70 snaps last week and Kitchens played 69, only coming off for one play when he was shaken up making that shoe string tackle at the 50.
-Zion Nelson. Did he fall off a cliff?
-Chase Smith. Is he still hurt?
-Jadais Richard. Freshman AA at Vandy can’t smiff the field?
-Trevonte Citizen. Hoped he would be contributing by now.
-Skinner. Thought he could have been a poor man’s KW2 here.

Surprises.
- Rivers. After the spring game, I didn’t think he could handle LT
- Mauigoa. Absolute Day 1 Stud
- Bain. Absolute Day 1 Stud
- Jaden Davis. Balling.
- Couch. From Okie St bowl game thru last year, it was pretty bad.
- Mauigoa. Became the MLB on day 1.
- Matt Lee. Better than advertised.
- Anez Cooper. Thought he was a year away. Not bad from a after thought recruit
- Chaney. Thought he career was effectively over. overcame so much.
- Colbie Young. Remarkable how much he transformed his body in less than year

Surprises:

1) The CB room has been unreal I can't believe how good Davis and Porter have been. So impressed.

2) The WR room! I feel George is a completely different WR now and has tons of confidence. I can't wait to see Ray Ray and Washington go as their time goes on here.

Disappointments:

1) The RB room while they haven't been bad by any stretch we still don't have that legit RB I am use to seeing at Miami now maybe that's Fletcher once he is healthy but still feel like we can get so much better at RB at Miami.

2) The TE's while McCormick has been an amazing blocker I was hoping for more from them some of that is because Arroya has been hurt.
TE's for sure get Arroyo back and still nothing from the group. Kept saying wait until Arroyo back.

Surprises:

- Bain. No one thought he would be this good, this fast. If you did, you're a fuccin liar.
- Matt Lee. For a UCF kid, I was hoping he would just do a decent job. Dude has been fuccin awesome from the moment he got here. I pray like **** he comes back next year.
- Jacolby George and Brashard Smith. Thank you both for taking big strides.
- Kevin Beard. He's a Cane, so I thought he would be decent, but what he's done with the WRs has been awesome.
- Francis and Francisco. Francis has been as advertised. Kiko has been very solid.
- JW20 taking big steps. I hope he comes back as well because I'm a selfish prick.
- Jaden Davis. I expected very little from him but Guidry found a way to make him shine.
- Corey Flagg. Say what you want about him, dude has heart and stones.
- Coordinators. Both are green, but willing to adapt to their needs. I'm excited for the future with them both.
- Not being completely tuned out by mid-October.
- The culture change
- FYZICAL play at the LOS on both sides of the ball.

Disappointments:

- Ray Ray. Only because he has hardly sniffed the field after getting a ton of praise in spring and camp.
- LT56. Yes he played well against Clemson. Yes he is playing out of position. But for the love of God, he was a no show for the first 6 games. I hope I can erase his name from this list in December.
- As already mentioned, victory formation. C'mon man.
- Keontra Smith. Thanks for personal foul as the only contribution this season. Hit the portal fuccwad.
- Armondo Blount. GTFOH with that 3rd grade troll job.
- Joe Sa'lavea and DT recruiting. I'm not going to explain this because it's too damm painful.
- Losing to a shidt team like GT. This is something that MUST stop moving forward. Not losing (although I hate it), but losing to team that have no business being on the field with us. Teams like GT, UVa, VaTech, Duke, Wake, NC State, Pitt and BC should NEVER EVER beat us, especially at home. Once every 20 years or so, ok. But every season for the past 20 years we've lost several of those sorts of games. Shidt needs to stop. NOW.

My biggest surprises are all the good things that have happened that I didn’t expect, and then I would have to say my biggest disappointments would be the things I thought would be good, but then they aren’t actually as good as I thought they were going to be originally.

PS- (but not THAT surprised) =
Bain.
LT. the entire OL. X. AB. JW

Legitimately pleasant surprises =
Flagg, Kiko. Davis, Porter, Chaney, JG. Emory. Gore. B Smiff. Guidry. Dawson.

Exactly what I expected =
TVD, Meisdor. Deen. Cam. Cloyd. Harvey. JHH.

Disappointed so far = Ladson. Kelly. Harrell. JR, DBrown, Keontra Smith. Citizen (health)
info on Zion Nelson. Lou Cristobal.

Man coach can’t let us play fsu with 3 5’9 corners starting please tell me he’s gonna start playing our bigger corners now to get ready for fsu

Surprises
- Defense as a whole, they have done a 180 on how physical and prepared they are.
- The synergy with the team, so much turnover but this team gels very nicely.
- The O line, I thought it would be improved but they all are playing at another level

Disappointments
- Devontae Brown, barely used and when he does play he’s always getting a penalty
- TE usage, I really thought we’d see them used more than what they have it’s pathetic

I believe that as well. Especially Ray Ray. The days of our players getting caught from behind *pause* (@Confidence1000) are about to overr
I don’t think they are disappointments they just haven’t got the time cause guys in front of them are playing well. The UCF Brown has had some bad plays for sure. But a lot of those guys were brought in for depth.

Porter been balling though he been like glue. The wr had a step well a few steps on him and he recovered to knock it away. Could of easily been PI but the ref let it go.

Had real low expectations going into the year but would’ve thought Dav. Brown would be a starter, he’s been a complete non factor this year..On the flip side been pleasantly surprised by J. George & Porter

Yeah That’s why I listed their “usage”
The UCF Brown is buggin. He is a constant penalty. I think I let the “insiders” gas me on lil bro during the offseason . So I expected him to come in and get to it

These topics are always a bit subjective given what each person expected coming into the season but in no particular order:

Pleasant Surprises:

1. Porter: he’s been glue at times and we rarely hear his name. Thank god for him.

2. Jalen Rivers: the OL was gonna be a strength but he was the big question mark. He did have a rough game against UNC but he’s been rock solid at LT.

3. Bain: I mean I had high hopes for good **** grief kid, might be the best player on the team right now.

4. JHH: not sure where we would be without him either. Really cool to see him take a step this year.

5. Flagg: nuff said for a kid that’s taken a beating here.

Disappointments:

1. Davante Brown: who?

2. Kam: controversial pick I’m sure because he is so vital to this team but to my untrained eye an All American (though I didn’t think that was warranted) should be playing smarter than he is.

There’s a few guys that have been injured that I have a bit of a incomplete grade on so far

I think my list reflects my expectations coming into this season. I didn’t expect to beat A&M or Clemson because our talent isn’t there yet so maybe it’s why I am so bullish on our coaches

Curious to hear some other opinions

Agree on pleasant surprises. I'd add in both Mauigoa brothers. Never expected that level of production from a true Freshman RT or a mid-level-performing transfer from Washington State. They bought in 100% and are maximizing their god given gifts. Couch and Davis, given their physical attributes, are playing way above what I thought their ceiling was.

Gotta agree on older Brown, also thought younger Brown would be pushing for starting snaps. Harrell is by far my biggest disappointment -- is that him or coaches? And what the heck happened to Skinner? My other disappointments are related to lack of progress from injury. I really hoped and expected Zion to be back, Arroyo to be an all-conference-level TE and Chase Smith to be coming on strong and part of the 2-deep.

Beyond that, I'm surprised and a little disappointed we've seen so little of Pancake, Ray Ray and Robby ... as well as Popo and the other freshmen LBs. Also, Wayne looked to be coming on and then disappeared.

Lot's of surprises and disappointments, but these are the biggest of them for me

BIGGEST SURPRISE: Jacolby George. I honestly thought he would contribute very little to the receiving corps and offense in general. Man, was I wrong. Dude is catching almost everything, hustling, blocking, and fighting for the ball. Love the guy.

BIGGEST DISSAPPOINTMENT: Penalties. What are we, almost dead last in all FBS for penalty yards per game. After years of always being in the bottom tier in penalties, I thought this was the year we would clean that up a little.

Surprises
The cohesiveness of the OL. They play like a SEC Oline.
The swiftness of Bain becoming the superstar he is. ESPN has him as the 43rd best newcomer. That’s criminally underrating him. He’d be a mid 1st rounder this year.
Guidry - hoping he will stick around for the next 10-15 years.

Disappointments
TEs - Maybe by design, but I think our front five is firmly established - we shouldn’t need to keep Cam in as much moving forward.
Brown brothers - one was expected to play right away and the other was highly rated. They’ve struggled when they have seen field
Lack of booth analyst.

I’m not as high on Jaden Davis as the board, am willing to reconsider after FSU game.

Nah Damari was thee guy, I think hes going to be great. I like that they dont try to destroy someones confidence, they manage that well with this staff.

Plus- Kiko, Bain, CB

minus- use if the TE room we have. For the love of god throw them at least 3 passes a game! I am pretty certain they will produce.
Also would love to see Jacurri in a game
