I hope this young man gets well soon.
SMH...Richt not making Jerome Washington a priority when He took the job has come back to bite em' in the ***. Yeah yeah it's Rutgers, but He was their leading pass catcher last year. Big, experienced TEs like Him that can block and catch don't come a dime a dozen.
Langham 6’5 240 right now
All of Miami receivers block pretty well. It’s a different beast as an in-line tight end though.Has Langham demonstrated he can block? We are talking about inline tight end.
There's enough depth and talent at WR and RB to run empty and 2RB sets most of the time. If Irvin was expected to be a major contributor then we are doomed with or without this injury. Teams stack the box against our 11 personnel offense and running against that is futile given the current state of the OL.
It's like beating a dead horse to bring this up again but the offense has to be more creative with alignment, motion, constraints and general utilization of personnel. Our best chance of success is to scheme guys open and create easy defined reads for Rosier. Isolation routes and basic zone scheme run game isn't gonna bring us titles with or without reliable TE play.
You certainly can run 20 personnel in pistol/spread formations and run effectively. Here is where we need Choc to really step up. Polendy can play inline tight end when needed. The pups will have to step up.
Is there a limit on Grad Transfers? I think we should have been in the market for a Grad Transfer/Juco TE and QB.
Honestly don't see it as a huge deal. Irvin has shown next to nothing. Wasn't known as an adept blocker or particularly strong TE. The biggest blow is just losing some (minimal) TE game experience and now counting on guys who aren't as familiar with the system.
Polendey is 6'6 245 and is supposedly more adept at blocking than anything else. Maybe Patchan (6'6 255) can get some situational reps at TE if needed (while being primarily DE)? Like many have mentioned, brining in a 6th OL in running situations is a good move.
We all know Mallory and Jordan are insanely talented, but they need time to get comfortable with the system and be dependable. However, from a physical standpoint, Jordan is ready.
Obviously, I'd rather it didn't occur. I feel bad for Irvin. But, I'm not overly worried about this.
