Michael Irvin II out for season

We have enough guys to catch balls. We need an inline blocker, and that’s not Langham. Don’t know enough about Njoku’s game, but doesn’t seem like it’s him either.
It's not Njoku's game at all. I was just throwing it out there because so many people thought he was a natural for the position.

****, I know the Freshman have talent but this is not good news. He was likely our starter Sept 2nd. I trust the Freshman as receivers but have some concerns on their blocking ability in their first college game

There is no way anybody can spin this...absolutely not good regardless of how much promise the freshman have.

Hate that Irvin II is out, but the solution is not that hard: go more 4-5 WR sets (we most certainly have the depth/talent to do that - let those WRs eat), and hope Rosier can make easy completions to the skill guys with favorable matchups. Let those guys make plays.

When we have to run in short yardage, bring in an extra OL...I don't give a **** if it's a "tell" for what we're running - we have to execute better offensively in short yardage either way. ****...see if Willis/D-Jack or another one of the DL can be athletic enough to be the decoy type of guy...and maybe even throw it to him once or twice like Bama did with Da'Ron Payne. (Maybe a spot for Greg Rousseau?)

This injury does open up more targets for the TE's, but it also opens up more targets for the likes of Cager/Langham/Njoku...all of our bigger WRs, for any routes that a TE would be running in our offense. Fvck...to me, just make Langham your de facto starting "TE" in our spread sets. I trust him to make big plays more than Irvin II at this point in their careers anyway. If Jordan/Mallory become guys you can't keep off the field instead - so be it...I'm all for it.

Another big plus for using our WRs more in the TE's spot in the offense when we spread it out is that our WRs actually are really good blockers on the outside. Whatever blocks Irvin II could have made either in the run game or downfield can be made by Langham or Cager just as easily, IMO.

The good thing is we still have the 2 very talented TE ( both who are much more talented then Irvin II to be honest) but it sucks he will miss a large portion of the season for Micheal. Get well brother!

All teams lose guys this time of the year . If the worst thing we lose is our 3rd most talented TE ( though it sucks for depth) we are doing good. I am sure there will be a few more injuries before LSU lets pray they are just minor things though.

Maybe move Langham to that position. That's the only thing I can think of but, yeah, this hurts.

Say huh? Last I saw him he was maybe 190? He gained 50 pounds??
Could have sworn I’ve seen him listed that big but he’s probably in that 225-235 range

We don't have zero depth at the position. That was last year once Herndon went down.

This time we actually have a modicum of talent at the position. Problem is, it's unproven.

But a transfer or JUCO TE probably wasn't going to net anything better than Irvin was.

I'm a big believer in our young talent. If we opened with Savannah State in Hard Rock Stadium and they had a chance to get their feet wet I may be willing to accept your above statement.

But we open against LSU in Jerrys World. We have Final 4 aspirations and a roster full of veterans who can handle the spotlight.

Jordan and Mallory have talent (loads of it) but they haven't been in the system long enough to fully grasp it (understandably) and they haven't been in the weight room long enough to handle run support (again understandably).

This is a massive jump, and this isn't a video game. You can just throw a couple kids in the game and think the offence will run the same. (Not putting words in your mouth just making a point)

If nothing else it would have been nice to have a viable veteran presence at TE for goal line situations. I don't have confidence in late arrival true freshman blocking with a yard to go.

No bueno. Sucks for Irvin. Jordan & Mallory have all the talent in the world, but TE is a really hard position for True Freshman.

We'll need another warm body at TE.

Three isn't going to cut it - especially since we haven't even started the season yet.

The lack of TE numbers and experience may bite us again this season.

Don't know why this staff hasn't put more effort into JUCO TEs.

We needed one 2 seasons ago, too.
