Michael Irvin II out for season

Langham is 6-4 235

That is the ideal size for a TE

He would create a nice mismatch in the middle of the field, he just needs to work on his pass blocking

You do know irvin is not a good blocker right?

He was atrocious , one of the worst I've seem from a te. I mean literally got his **** pushed in at the los.

That being said , it hurts. Depth is bad and he was at least decent as a receiving te, Polendey will have to step up. At least in the blocking dept. Hartley see,s to think he's improved more than anyone in the te room.

We have 3 healthy TE’s on the roster currently. How many does a NFL team typically carry?

NFL is different. If someone goes down or lack depth during the season, NFL team can just sign a free agent. CFB is stuck with who they have for the season.

Langham 6’5 240 right now

I've been saying this for months , just an an emergency option. He could play the Mallory spot , not sure he could play in line. But with the great depth at wr he could be a nice flex te option

Wishing Irvin JR a speedy and full recovery. I like the chatter about Langham moving into the TE role- it will open up our passing attack plus what would it look like having him back at H back and both Brevin and Will, with one inline and the other in the slot or out wide? What team could cover that scheme?

What do you think Langham before Njoku in case of an emergency at TE?

He's nowhere thick enough , nowhere near the frame for it. Especially in the lower half. Langhsm has a thick lower half and a lot bulkier. EN is a legit 6'6 and change.

I didn’t ask that. I’m fully aware that the nfl game is different.

I asked how many. Can you answer that?

Sucks getting hurt this time of the season for anyone (any level)- all the prep and pain. Wish him the best. I was hoping he was going to be big against Clemson, but that was really wishful thinking, based on being a homer. Besides, lots of Canes looked lost that night, particularly along the O-Line and pass coverage.

Silver Lining; if we can get through a D-Line like LSU always has, with the two youngsters, its gravy baby! They will have some less pressure games to get a feel, and will be way, way ahead of schedule. If one, or both can provided some plusses either blocking or catching a few more balls, another bonus.

Sucks for Irving. I feel for him. But this should have zero effect on the team.

If you want to play tough guy football just bring in another lineman because Irving isn’t a blocker anyway. If you want to throw the ball, we have a ridiculous wealth of WRs and better option in the throw game at TE.

Irvin’s progression was one of the main things I was gonna watch in fall camp. This is a huge loss.

If there’s a silver lining, at least it happened so early in camp. Gives the coaches time to see what they have in Jordan and Mallory, and to scheme up some power packages.

I don’t see any way we don’t run some kind of unbalanced line package. We don’t even have the depth to move Patchan to TE. Poor roster management.
When did Irving progress so much? He was pretty awful last year and was a non factor in the spring.

I just read a site that said Miami will be "without a major offensive weapon for most of 2018", then went on to talk about his 78yds receiving LY????

Has Langham demonstrated he can block? We are talking about inline tight end.
No. And neither has Irving.

Just use more 4 wide to take advantage of where our best talent is anyway.

This injury could actually benefit the offense by forcing Rick out of his comfort zone and forcing him not to put a limited guy like Irving on the field just because he prefers to use a TE even if he’s not very good.

Exactly he can Line up inline and just run routes and not necessarily block.

Also another thing i was thinking is if you need to run double tight end set on goal line put another lineman on there to block as your 2nd “tight end”. That should work too...
Why not let our big receivers Njoku, Cager, Langham, Hightower flex out as a extension of tightend, I know it's Mallory's roll though.
