Miami Ranked #27

Advanced metrics are only as good as their input data. Week 2 is far too early for me to put stock in a power index, regardless of how well-tuned it is under the hood.

Not that I would pay attention to this, our backups have to get their act together at a
lot of spots. Their is a lot of improvement to be had over the next several weeks. If it was the drop-off of a FSU, I would be really upset.

I’ll go with the eye test and comparing how we’ve looked so far compared to other teams.

Top 5 team to me. **** these dumb *** metrics

Analytics have value, but college football is about conventional wisdom. Alabama dominated for two decades of the “modern” era with a classic formula.

Veteran, smart QB. Elite offensive line. Power running game. Dudes on DL. Long, man-coverage corners who tackle. Win the turnover battle.

That’s our identity through two games and it is more proven than goofy algorithms.

people like Manny Diaz love analytics. football guys like saban, Kirby, Mario, probably Lanning, dont care as much.

If I said what I felt you would ban me.

Even if it were possible that all these teams played each other, home and away, there would still be a good amount of unpredictability in these "predictive" analytics.
But after 2 weeks with 3 common opponents of the 50+ games played??

C'mon man.

What are our thoughts on the ranking of the offense? Number 4, do we feel that is fair?

ESPN Power Index is an embarrassment and should be removed. Basing the index on preseason assumptions that everyone knows are historically wrong most of the time tells you all you need to know about the validity of the rankings.
