This is pathetic. They don't have a single guy on that roster that we recruited or would have signed. Let that sink in.

Is their coaching that much better than ours where the game is virtually a toss up when they don't have a single player we wanted to sign? I hope not. We should fck these bytches really hard.

I think I saw that they have 1 or 2 guys in PFFs top 100

I'm not talking about now. You don't recruit guys after they've been on a college team for several years. We didn't recruit anyone on that team. Therefore, we should hammer them. It's pretty simple. Jimmys and Joes.

Or do you worriers think Satterfield is some hidden genius HC and better than Rick?

Which is it? Do they have better players than us or better coaches? Or both?

Saying we should smash somebody because we didn't recruit any of their players is absolutely stupid. It's not like this is a team from Florida. Also what does it matter how good they were as recruits?

They're not going to beat us, but you're making it seem like they have no one that could play on our team, which isn't true, mainly because their OL is their strongest position group, and one we aren't exactly great at.

No. What's absolutely stupid is your weak brain that processes information from a position of fear. Anyone who thinks a team full of 2 stars should beat a team that recruits a top 20 class every year is an idiot.

This is ultimately a players' game, and we have a massive advantage there. On top of that, we have the better staff. So where's the advantage that makes a sissy's lip quiver? A 23k seat stadium?

Dear Blake James,

This is why you don't schedule these games. Win, you're suppose to win. Lose, it's the "biggest upset" of the year. We gain nothing from playing this game.

Sincerely,
Common Sense

No. 25 Miami knows a huge test awaits at Appalachian State

Make no mistake, this is a very big game to App State (1-1), a team that won 11 games last year and nearly beat Tennessee to open this season.

Adult tickets are usually $40 for Mountaineers home games; they were priced at $60 for this one, and they're going for much more than that on the secondary markets. App State added a standing-room student section that will put some on field level, a premium seating area also at field level, along with another video board.

A sellout is certain; every ticket App State had was gone about an hour after they went on sale. Extra planning was done in an effort to figure out how to minimize traffic problems on game day. There's even going to be a pep rally on Friday night with two bands, food trucks and appearances by App State coach Scott Satterfield and some players.

Fans have been excited for months. Now App State players can join in the fun.

"Throughout the offseason, everybody's like, 'Man, you play Miami at home,'" Appalachian State quarterback Taylor Lamb said. "And we're like, 'Yeah, we've got two games before that.' ... Now all our focus goes to Miami."

It's the first time App State has played host to an opponent from one of college football's five power conferences, and is something that Satterfield called "a milestone for our university." The game was scheduled last year when Miami needed to fill an opening, and the Hurricanes had to agree to head to Boone first to get what will become a home-and-home done.

Not sure how you got that I think we will lose or that it would be acceptable if we lost from anything I have written

Assuming it's true that their strongest position group is OL, the actual analysis is how it will do against our strongest position group, which is our DL based on performance year-to-date. As for our OL, we should be able to run successfully against App. State, which will make it easier to run our play action. We'll be fine.

lol, its like no one comprehends that I think we win like 35-14.
but yes we will be able to run all over their DL. they looked small, and their defense as a whole really just didnt look too good. If UT wasnt inept on offense, App St wouldnt have had a chance.
If our DL does beat their OL, we completely dominate this game. but I expect their OL to win quite a few battles throughout the game.

We could use a healthy Anthony Molten against these guys. Would be nice to have T. Harris for more than a few plays too.

We should win this by 20+.

Seriously, no one would be worried or know who Appalachian State was if they didn't upset Michigan in 2007. A Michigan team quarterbacked by wunderkind Chad Henne and coached by the Larry Coker...er...Lloyd Carr (Admittedly, not much difference between the two).

We're worried about a Sun Belt team? This is what Miami football has rapidly deformed to? I know the Golden years were rough, but shytting our collective pants about a team from the Sun Belt???

More polls and ratings are coming out which is what some of these are based on. According to Sagarin, Miami is only 6 points better than App.

The Belt is ranked higher than the C-USA right now. If you knew anything about the entirety of CFB and not just the newly coined term Power 5 (an ESPN creation no less), you'd know that the talent gap didn't suddenly just appear out of no where. This is one division, FBS, and you are visiting a place that will likely be louder than everywhere you play except Virginia Tech and UNC. A natural amphitheater keeps sound in quite nicely.

Should win by 20+, but playing an option team, in the rain, isn't an ideal situation for Miami.

Nothing says strong conference like playing the Idaho Vandals of the world. Might as well be the Big Sky Conference. I guess they did beat Wyoming last year...lol

Better than CUSA? I didn't know that they were used as a measuring stick now for "good" conferences. Yawn.

LMAO louder than anywhere we play? FSU, GT, ND, NC State, Louisville, pretty much any ACC school other than Wake Forest and Duke are louder than Kidd-Brewer. Sorry bro, you've officially lost me with your "insight". I've been to about 7 App games. That place is a fun atmosphere to watch a college football game because of the casual atmosphere, but the stadium design and limited capacity make it hard for it to actually get LOUD there.

And to get the intended goal, you would want the most realistic looking line to get a 50/50 split, no? They may not be trying to pick an exact outcome, but that becomes an unintended consequence.

You have a desired result (50/50 money split) which may lead to a certain outcome.

It isn't a guaranteed result. The spread follows the money, not the outcome. Things change (injuries, suspensions, weather etc.) and as a result people change their decisions.

Also, if the spread changes (which it goes up and/or down or stays the same), when do we judge? At the end of the week right before the game? At that point, the spread has been set and then shifted for awhile and the only thing Vegas is doing is trying to even the money. Once they set it (by the experts in Vegas) all their doing is balancing the money.

My point is that the outcome of the game and the spread (should they match or not) is a random occurrence and not the intended purpose.

Side note: Not sure what is considered close either. If the goal (like you said) was to hit the outcome and you don't hit, is it close? If the favorite is favored by 2 and loses by 1, is that close? Sure it is 3 points but the underdog won.

And that is what scares me about this game. Opening at 3 1/2 was low to begin with and made me feel the public would be all over miami and this would then push up the spread. However, I just checked the spread.com and the spread there opened at 4 1/2 and 80% of the public is betting miami and Vegas has lowered the spread to 3 1/2. This doesn't happen often because of what you explained with Vegas just trying to split the public voting and win on the VIG. This either means they are willing to take a risk since they feel really confident in App State covering or a few people have a ton of money on App state when the overall public is betting Miami in smaller increments.

Even though this looks like the classic trap game, I'll be in Vegas and will bet the Canes because the only way we don't cover is if we have a significant injury or there's a plus 4 turnover advantage for them.
