If we are going to be a serious championship caliber program, we need to be offering the top available players what it takes to get them to our side. Gooden would have been a solid pickup as a two deep/experienced depth type of player, don’t care what other people said.
I agree when it comes to spending the money to get the best players, but not that Gooden kid. He’s smaller than the defensive tackle from Boise State and we weren’t impressed with that kids frame as well. Spend money yes, but spend it on the right prospects. Between those two, I think the reserve defensive tackles we have in the room are already better. They’re at least much bigger.

IMO the difference in a 8-9 win team and a 10 win team is landing this guy and having a fully rejuvenated secondary.

sky is the limit if we get Haulcy

I agree getting Haulcy fills a huge hole on the defense, but think Beck's health is going to determine more how things go. The main thing this year is doing a better job with complementary football. I see this offense being more ball control to assist the defense. I see the secondary doing a better job in coverage to allow the DL to get home on the pass rush.

The schedule is tougher this year, but it does line up well with most of the tough teams being at Hard Rock. Obviously the last two games @VT and @Pitt line up for our typical late season drop off.

Watson is who you pony up for. Young DT with size that has multiple years of eligibility left? That's what you need to take the next step. Gooden would have been a very good DT4 and has good tape as well. Not ideal size but at least the tape suggests he can play at this level and contribute. I liked Gooden better for what we needed (run stopping) more than the Boise kid by a good bit.

Yes, I’m assuming Beck is healthy and is what he is supposed to be.

While I agree landing Haulcy is a critical step in becoming a playoff contender, Haulcy is not the messiah. There are other holes left to fill and dependencies. Our DT rotation is too thin and will not hold up for 13+ games. We are still missing a proven big/speedy outside WR. We're putting a lot of expectation on Popo and Hayes to be quality MLBs, should have gone and gotten a top player there. ... but yeah, we do need Haulcy to make our back 5 lock down.

LSU 247 lmao. Thought he was wrapped up to them according to this board…

There have been rumors that the Tigers are visiting with former Houston safety AJ Haulcy. The defensive back is at Miami today, but do the Tigers have a chance? Here's what we know.

***LSU has been kicking the tires here, and initial contact was made. The initial conversation between LSU and Haulcy's camp was a positive one, and I can say that LSU has piqued his interest. The next hurdle is getting him actually to visit campus.

Haulcy is currently on a visit to Miami that started today. I've been able to gather, along with our Miami site, that the Hurricanes staff feels pretty solid about where they stand with Haulcy. The two big things are money and opportunity, which give them some confidence that they could wrap this up and shut down any potential visit to LSU (which is what the Tigers did with Gooden). If this is strictly about money, I believe that Miami has the upper hand. They have a vast chest of resources to work with. It's not a knock against LSU's willingness to spend, just a fact about where Miami is at in the NIL game. If it's not solely focused on the money, that's where I think LSU can make some headway. The visit with Haulcy was productive; now it's time to wait.
