According to Geo Milian on Twitter, Miami is expected to be in play and to be a contender for Houston defensive back transfer A.J. Haulcy.

Haulcy is a 6-foot, 215-pound standout safety and ranks among the best defensive backs in the nation. This past season with the Cougars, he recorded 74 tackles and a career best of five interceptions.

A.J. has one more year of eligibility left and earned a spot on the first-team All-Big 12 for his standout year as a safety this past season.

In Haulcy's career, he played in 2,121 plays. During a conference away game this season versus TCU, he made two interceptions, helping the Cougars secure a 30-19 win. Due to his performance against TCU, the Houston native was honored as the Thorpe Award National Defensive Back of the Week.

Lots of options at safety. Don't see this as a one-player process.
It should be a one player process. Stud, all conference level player at a position of big need who played under our new secondary coach last year. Literally no need to do anything but bring this kid in. A better fit isn't going to be found. Hoping this is a case of downplaying to not let out too much info but what a miss this would be.

Huh? there really is not "a lot of options". This just isn't true.

If your sources tell you "Not sure UM is going to be able to go high enough on Haulcy, or he will be a tough pull, or "he's really not that close with Etheridge". I get it…But look at his career and production compared to everyone on this list. **** On3 has Patterson as the current #1 ranked safety and he played what? 100 plays?

I'm all for taking a guy like Gregory Smith, I get it…I think maybe one day he can start at UM. But it's no reason to say things like that.

There is a huge drop-off after Haulcey…This guy its a p4 all-conference player and likely NFL draft pick after this coming season. Yes there are "other options" at safety, but the position is truly "one position" depending on what is available right now.

fine if it happens as talent needs to win out, but if we land Halcey, does anybody bounce?
