Miami-Arkansas State cancelled

Never should have scheduled a home and home with Arkansas State in the first place. Seeing Irma is coming so soon after Harvey, it makes sense that the University would be super cautious.

I didn't say that nobody in South Florida would be hurt. I said that none of the family members of the players would be hurt.

Need me to spell it out? Unless things have changed since I went there, the UM dorms double as hurricane shelters. You don't think they would open their doors to the family members of players?

Sue me for not thinking it's a good idea to have our team in the middle of all the chaos that's sure to come, leading up to the most important game of the season.

Like a baseball team leaving town for spring ball, I think getting out of town would be good for the team to keep them focused.

So......you're not saying no one in South Florida is going to be hurt. But you're guaranteeing that no one that is associated/related to a player on our team that resides in South Florida will be hurt.

So, Hurricane Irma's going to be selective in South Florida on who it hits. If the person is a relative of a person on the team, then they're good.

That's basically what I've gathered from your idiotic post.

That's because you're illiterate.

I told you the UM dorms are hurricane shelters. You invite the families to stay there while the team is away. There's no safer place to be.

No, I read everything correctly. You apparently don't realize how devastating this thing's going to be.

I think you should stand outside while this thing's passing through.

So it's gonna knock down the UM dorms?

Not necessarily. But it doesn't have to knock the UM dorms down to cause any damage; particularly prevent any harm for those that reside there. Again, this is the strongest hurricane recorded. I don't think you're grasping how devastating this thing can potentially be.

But I'm done trying to explain it to you. You have your opinions, I have mine.

It makes total sense and doesn't really effect our chances of anything so I understand. Would of loved to play the game but I get it.

The hurricane isn't hitting Miami. All models now show it missing.

This thing better hit Miami, or we're no different than Florida when they canceled the LSU game during Matthew.

Think about what you just said.

You just asked for people to die, thousands of homes to be destroyed, businesses to be ruined and devastation to a city you probably love.

It's been said already, go fck yourself.

Ark St is clearly losing out on some revenue because of this. Does Miami have to pay them as if they were only playing at Miami? Will we have to travel to Ark St at some point in another season?

Playing 11 games is something that certainly could hurt a potential playoff bid, but I am pretty sure we have to win all our games anyway in order to make the playoff. If we do go 11-0, we are in.

100% chance their are contract provisions or insurance to cover these types of events.

Just an interested observer from a B1G school and it is pretty disappointing seeing a couple of the comments in this thread and the hundreds on Twitter.

What's disappointing is their cowardly AD cancelling a road game and forcing the team to stay home in a category 5 hurricane. Every other team from Florida is playing their road game, so why did they cancel?"

they bring up some good points though, I don't get this decision

BIG school huh? When was the last time your brave BIG school AD even scheduled an away game at App State or Arkansas State? Provide dates and results and then you can run your mouth.

UM

Force majeure clause

Contracts generally have them

This is an exceedingly dumb move that will set us up for a poor season. The smart move would've been to play the game and then practice in Atlanta if need be. By staying, we actually hurt our chances of beating FSU because there's no guarantee we are even able to practice next week pending the outcome of the storm.

State school so lost revenue isn't as big a factor.

So instead of helping your family gear up for a potentially catastrophic category 5 hurricane, you would rather leave them to fend for themselves to play a meaningless game in Arkansas? Can't make this stuff up man you guys are clueless

I want them to beat FSU and not be distracted all week when they need to be focused and practicing.

I guarantee you not one family member of any player will be hurt by Irma. People like you just love to be dramatic and sappy.

You're either an imbecile or completely clueless to what a category 5 hurricane means in terms of devastation. The governor issued a state of emergency but the FSU game is much more important than the safety of families to you?

I don't know how anyone can definitively say that no one will be hurt by Hurricane Irma in South Florida.

Strongest hurricane to ever be recorded. This thing's going to do some damage. The only thing that's shocking to me was that this game wasn't called earlier. Fck what Ark. St. thinks. If they want to say we're scared, then have at it.

Jesus christ you're ******* stupid. You don't think their families need help loading up vehicles and boarding up windows? Or clearing debris in the aftermath. GTFOH.

University of Miami to Parents: We're sorry to inform you we have a big game coming up in two weeks so we can't let your son help secure you're home, get your grandma out of the old folks home, load up family memories in the truck and clear fallen trees from your yard. They are our property, you can have them back in 4 years.

The fact some of you simps actually think playing ark st is a good idea is baffling.

reading some of these posts are so disgusting. Regardless of what you feel the players, coaches and staff are human, have homes and families and that is more important that a football game, whether it be Ark State or FSU. Having seem Harvey do you have no compassion for your fellow man?

You do not own them. You are fan. You should hope for safety not be worried about how this will effect FSU if they miss a couple of practices.

They are a G5 school every $ is important. The state doesn't fund athletics.

FAU seems to be getting to Wisconsin just fine. Crap move by the AD.

I wonder if I can get a refund from Travelocity for my flight, hotel and car rental?

Parts of the school are prepared to be hurricane shelters. Traffic is a mess and will continue to get worse as people ar sent home. Many of the players come from the south Florida area and live in low income neighborhoods with little income to prepare. I hope the school is helping out those families of the student athletes that need it. Some of the players have kids. Hospitals, schools and universities in south Florida are the safest places to be during a storm. To wait till the last minute to decide this would be foolish. Failure to plan is planning to fail. Wouldn't second guess on this. Probably a lot of other moving parts to this but definitely not afraid of ark st. I'm from Miami and was stationed in Camp Pendleton during andrew before cell phones emails etc. Stood at a phone both with a calling card for hrs and couldn't get through worried about my family.
Sometimes you have to say it's just a game.

Arkansas state game was a lose lose. If we won by a lot then we were supposed to

If we won in an ugly game then we would be terrible.

Healthy and going into Florida State not a bad scenario. Two weeks to prepare for fsu now and not a few days wasted on arky state

Exactly. People saying this will give us more time to prepare for FSU are not seeing the whole picture.

For completely selfish reasons, I'm ****ed. My wife dragged me somewhere last week didn't get to see the game live, now this one's cancelled and I have to go to Athens next Saturday for parent's weekend and won't be able to watch the FSU game live.

I, like most on this board, wait all year for these 12 or so Saturdays in the fall and losing one just sucks.
