Even if Mccoy or Samson is better at tackle it may be a net plus to keep them at guard like what we did with Rivers and Bell. The goal is not to play the best player at each position but to find the best starting 5. If Cantweel isnt suited to play guard but is a good tackle then we are better off with a good tackle and a great guard than a slightly better tackle and an average guard
 
I know this is a nonserious question, especially coming from someone who appreciates the Big Uglies. But can anyone recall a scenario where a team would flip guys back and forth between OT and OG within a game or across games?

I'm wondering if it's a win/win if Cantwell and Okunlola/McCoy could do that, so everyone gets experience at both positions for their NFL resumes and it improves team flexibility in case someone gets injured. Perhaps that's just trying to be too cute by half, though.

With each playing each position? No. With 1 of them? Likely only from injury. Like Rivers was moving between OG and OT a lot.

But this isn't happening for us because McCoy and Okunlola are starting. They aren't getting rotated out at all this year. And it would make little to no sense to have BOTH McCoy and Okunlola rotating at OT and OG. You'd just choose 1. I mean I suppose it possible could be a situation where just those two themselves were rotating with each other between OT/OG. Like maybe you could say they have different skill sets/strengths between the 2 positions and some games after a quarter or two you just go for whichever is playing stronger at OT that day? That's the only way I actually see both of them really rotating at OT...

I guess the other way a rotation would "make sense" is if it is Cantwell and the next guard/center rotating. So like 2 drives is McCoy+Okunlola at OTs with Buchanan and maybe Congdon/Meriweather at OG. Then next 2 drives it's Cantwell at LT and moving one of McCoy/Okunlola to LG.

But ultimately I don't see the big benefit in doing that.
 
We heard all summer that Cantwell was the goods and would start from Day 1. Then yesterday, Lake put out an O-line depth chart that doesn’t necessarily have Cantwell starting when fall camp opens. Now D$ is talking about Samson playing tackle (in addition McCoy?).

Putting on my tinfoil hat: maybe Miami is downplaying Cantwell’s chances of starting to motivate him. I just hope he isn’t injured.

Think we had a poster hinting about someone being out. But that’s complete speculation from me
