Matthew McCoy

I know this is a nonserious question, especially coming from someone who appreciates the Big Uglies. But can anyone recall a scenario where a team would flip guys back and forth between OT and OG within a game or across games?

I'm wondering if it's a win/win if Cantwell and Okunlola/McCoy could do that, so everyone gets experience at both positions for their NFL resumes and it improves team flexibility in case someone gets injured. Perhaps that's just trying to be too cute by half, though.

Didn’t Rivers play LG when Bell played LT?

****, Fletch missed the hole right in front of him.
From shotgun split by QB, it is harder to hit that cutback immediately. Especially for a downhill big runner. Thats why he is better out of pistol.

Just thought about the Stanford game last year he had 6 but cut back inside instead of just running outside lol. He eventually scored though, he did look much better in the playoff. Hoping he continues to get better with his vision.

We heard all summer that Cantwell was the goods and would start from Day 1. Then yesterday, Lake put out an O-line depth chart that doesn’t necessarily have Cantwell starting when fall camp opens. Now D$ is talking about Samson playing tackle (in addition McCoy?).

Putting on my tinfoil hat: maybe Miami is downplaying Cantwell’s chances of starting to motivate him. I just hope he isn’t injured.
Whether it’s Tackle or guard, Cantwell is starting regardless. He’s simply just saying that there will be a lot of rotation this summer. If you listened to the recent pods, Dmoney has him as the projected LT

I’m curious how both SJ and Cogden fit into the rotation. The staff is going to want those two on the field

The player that I remember gave McCoy a hard time was Darnell Jackson. Jackson basically over powered McCoy more than once in the FSU game.

Some players are just better suited for OT rather than OG Jalen Rivers was a disappointing OG, and a really good OT. But most people doubted that would be a good OT because of his struggles at OG. But each postion requires different skills and the opposition is different. Rivers was over powered by DT’s, but not by DE’s. The hope is that McCoy has a transition similar to Jalen Rivers.

My memory is that Rivers was the starting LT until an injury. Bell stepped in and it was clear that he needed to be on the field. So after returning from injury, Rivers played more LG

From what I have seen its usually quickness inside that has been issue for him not over powering, thats why everytime there is talk about moving outside, I get confused because he is usually over his toes and blown by. DEs with speed I think would give him more problems but I would be happy to be wrong.. But I have too many plays burned in my head of him whiffing causing issues

I hope you are wrong, and fear you are correct. I thought he was pretty good except for the FSU game, but Jackson definitely got the best of him.

I'm more worried about center. Miami has had 3 solid centers in a row. Yes Brock was the weak link for a while but turned it on the second half of the year.
Rodriguez is gonna be a upgrade on Brock from a physical standpoint imo. The years when they had trouble at center they went and got in the portal. Rodriguez was playing in the opener in the swamp. Injuries will be the challenge. These concerns remind me of us heading into 2023 after the disastrous 2022. We started 1 true FR and a true SO in the right side.

Looks like it was a outside zone with McCoy to pull but he stay when pressure was present in-front of him. Instead of reading the pulling guard, Fletcher just ran to where he thought the hole would end up being. Cooper did nothing and the play sucked.
