Matt Porter on Big O Show

Why does nobody want Mullen?

Texas job opening...no Mullen.

South Carolina job opening...no mention of Mullen.

VT...no Mullen.

UVA...no Mullen.

He's on His 2nd interview with UM, and He's not even a frontrunner.

He's the ultimate "Meyer Tree" Disciple, but everybody's either slow playin' em', or don't want em'...they want Herman before they want Mullen...simple question, why?

He may or may not work. Right now with SEC resources for recruiting etc, bagmen, you name it, he's 54-35 with a losing conference record after 7 seasons. He receives a whole lot of hype with marginal results. What has he won? Once in 7 seasons he finished higher than 4th in the SEC west.

A lot, considering he's at one of the worst programs in America

Butch HC, Richt OC, it can happen... If not bring on Herman.. Just my opinion!! And wishful thinking

Did the Big Dough start crying in his Cafe con Leche when Porter insinuated that Papi Chulo Mario is only (hopefully) getting a courtesy interview?

I'm gonna assume neither of you are members of the BBB crowd.

Because asking this about Mullen, when Butch hasn't coached in 5 years, would make zero sense, otherwise.

I like Mullen as a candidate. With that said, I think you raise some valid questions. Why didn't Florida look Mullen's way during their coaching search a year ago

FWIW I believe Mullen and UF's AD didn't get along or some such. I remember reading that somewhere.

I also suspect Foley would have had an issue going back to Mullen after passing him up for Will Muschamp ...

Fair question. He's supposedly a huge prick and with the ties to the Meyer tree, I think it was a firm pass.

Still think his smash mouth spread would kill it here. (needs to hire the right DC)

I'm a #BBBer , and I think Mullen is a good coach, the 2 don't have to be exclusive. But why couldn't Mullen nab the Texas job?...seemed like He would've been a good fit for the QBs they have there.

Mullen should be priority 1.

There are reasons Richt, Butch, and Schiano are readily available.

Mario Cristobal would do himself a HUGE favor to go get that Memphis job. They'll pay him $1.5MM, and he can build on what Fuente started. It's a better program than FIU.

I disagree on Memphis. They come off their best season ever, and mainly due to having the best quarterback in the nation. Whoever comes in is definitely taking a step back, after you lose the player that had put the team on his back

I get your point.

But if Cristobal wants to prove himself, he gets 3 seasons to do what Fuente did ... That's build that team back to a 10 win conference champ ... That's what Fuente did. And the program he took over was much worse than the program he is leaving.

so we counting 4 team ties without playing 2 others as a championship

Food for thought. Maybe I read this incorrectly but it sounds like Barry Jackson was told some info by James. Then sworn to secrecy. Why give a reporter information at all then? The only thing I can think of is he promised him the scoop before anyone else as long as he does not keep digging for info and release it without James knowing. You just have to wonder why the secrecy unless it involved coaches with jobs that absolutely do not want their name leaked. If that is the case I would understand that.

Maybe they are being so secretive because they are covering up their incompetence, as usual. (Sorry, but after the last three hires, I am very cynical about this whole process.)

Lol

Some people count Butch making the playoffs with Cleveland at 9-7 due to a bunch of tie-breakers ...

Are you sure you want to add qualifiers to coaching resumes???

You want Mullen for 5 mil per year with 2 mil for assistants or

Butch for 2 mil per year with 5 mil for assistants.
