Marquise Lightfoot commits to Miami

Is everyone going to now assume a lighter player can't gain weight going forward simply due to the outlier that was Cyrus Moss ?
Moss wasn’t that much of an outlier just the most recent example, a highly rated one at. A player isn’t guaranteed to just gain adequate weight. Tweeners are talked about here all the time, usually they get caught in between being DEs and DTs but they exist elsewhere.

Now as it pertains to Pickett, the noise about him and weight started on this site back in the spring. There was concern then that he may never put on weight necessary to be more than a situational pass rusher and it was independent of Moss. Now he was still a take for reasons I already outlined in this and other threads, most important of those being it’s not precluded he gains the weight.

Right now we don’t have a weight on the kid as the UA unlike the Amry game never released full weight and measurements. So based on this I revert to conversations had on this site about him being at 200 or below. I hope a talent like him gets to where he needs to be, because he can be special but this statement that this is all because of what happened with Moss is just untrue.

Exactly lol. Bain reported at 250 and was up to 280 by fall camp.
Moss was an outlier. Most D1 prospects will have minimal issue gaining weight. People quickly forgot Rousseau was a 6'6" 210 pound receiver/safety prospects and gained 35-40 pounds in a year. Putting 20 pounds on Lightfoot & Pickett won't be some monumental task.

I know him and his mom love Miami so I hope he gets healthy and finds a role. Need a top 4 of Mesidor, Bain, Kelly, Wayne, Lightfoot.

Will be really interesting to see if they bring in another DE transfer to push the floor up in case Mesidor or Kelly get injured again. Need to be 6 deep with playable guys in my opinion.

Miami isn’t there right now at DE.

IMO, Kelly's lack of development is all about his youth and injuries. I know you can't keep talent off the field. But Kelly was too young and his body wasn't ready for Big Boy football. I really wish they had redshirted him in year 1 and brought him along a more slowly... Remember this with Blount. Do Not Rush Him.

Exact booker & Lightfoot are what 6-3 and 6-4, could get them in the 230lb range and be given a handful of snaps in games we're up big or pass rush downs

And we now have enough depth in the front 7 where we don't desperately need both to play day 1 so that weight gain can be more naturally achieved.

I just don’t like that Kelly can be pushed around. That’s my only knock with him and I know Mario doesn’t want his guys getting pushed around. I hope he has a great season in sack numbers. Give me at least 7-9
I would like to see more from him too, but his upper body in particular was behind and given that he was 16 when he enrolled that's to be expected. I think he will be 18 or 19 THIS season.

That's absurd to think about for a guy entering year 3. His strength will only now start hitting the levels it needs to.

That's why I am holding off judgment until this season. We also didn't see a healthy Kelly except 1 game this season. Not enough to make an assessment off of.

This is also why Blount shouldn't be expected to contribute until 2025. LT Overton was a big athletic kid like Blount and actually ranked higher after he reclassified never really blossomed at TAMU.

Age matters.

Kelly is year 3 player that age wise, would be considered young for a year 2 player.

Wow I didn’t even realize he was that young and I had no clue. U may be right but he needs to add weight badly bruh. Hopeful he does and yea I’m not expecting much from Blount. Scott and Lightfoot will play but LF has to transform by august and I think he will.

Also had a kid last szn so he had a lot going on.

Its why i am so high on Kelly he is young.... He has the gifts if it all puts to gether because he has that awkward quick get off and can run the curve and has a crazy wingspan....Whenever he does beat tackles it looks so effortless.

Hope he adds at least 10-15 this offseason cause you right his get off and bend (pause) is something to behold. I think those other DL takes are only going to help him and push him. Scott, Bain, Jones are going to free this guy up a lot.

How about him dropping in coverage a ton..

For sure, Kelly's lower half is actually pretty strong. Upperbody needs more time.

Justin Scott is the rare plug and play size/athleticism/power wise. He will be like the elite Clemson DL have been as TF (Wilkins, Lawrence, Breesee, Murphy, Tyler Davis all started or played significant snaps as TF).

LF gets to 225 by August and he should be a pass rush specialist. Anything more is a bonus. Kid is 3 and done if he stays healthy so might as well play him while you have him.
