Mark Matthews commits to TAMU in ambiguously ___ manner. Move On

I don't think Cristobal and Mirabal forgot how to recruit offensive tackles, especially after watching Cantwell toss people all spring.

I also don't think it's about playing time. We play freshmen, and even if Matthews played RT (which he does in high school) he could still go Top 10 like Mauigoa and Fano.

So all that leads me to this conclusion: I think the kid just wants to go to Texas A&M. I don't understand it, but I'm not him. These guys are all different. Texas A&M did a better job recruiting him and looks like they'll win this battle. It's a brutal loss for the Canes.

All we can do is take the L and move forward. Consider it the recruiting version of the SMU game. Focus on Olu Olubobola and get it done. Elite offensive tackles are rare, and there is a big drop off to the next group (as we see in the first round of the NFL Draft). This needs to be a position where we continue to spend money on high school talent. Maybe we can flip Matthews back, but that's becoming less common in this era.

I still think we land a Top 5 class. But I also thought we'd get Matthews. So let's see what happens. We've got seven months. Go Canes.

Let me ask you this; why didn’t he just tell us from the start that he had no interest in Miami and was going out of state ? Big waste of time and resources.

Well there are those of us losing sleep over it, and those of us that have noticed the trends and tend to let things play out...therefore less concerned, at the moment

Because the more interest and offered they get, they higher their value is. He was driving up his price.

Your point has merit.
However, bottom line.....it's about winning games on the field.
I don't give a flip about compilation of 4 and 5 stars.
I care about the head coach compiling a powerful team, with little weakness and plenty
of depth, to which they can win many games in the postseason, and they did last year.
Only falling short to a team which had less 4 and 5 stars.
Again, I get the frustration over not landing some of our targets, including local kids.
But not all kids want to stay home for various reasons.

How do you you think UM recruiting was back from 2013-2022 vs aggies..

since Mario got here not only has he played them 3 times at their home and Beat them twice,but we also have been competing with texas a&m in recruiting and portal compared to back in 2013. If Its about winning stand on thar merit, and know Mario ain't going to stop recruiting and competing.

Adapt or die.

UM is bout finishing #1 in 26 on the field not a #1 recruiting class in 26 ,and ya never know Mario being a dawg recruiter he will want that #1 title too in the future. UM still got work to do.

Anyone here willing to do a traceability exercise to determine a delta of when DS’s authority seemed to be mitigated by hiring that Taylor guy, the muted recruiting fails, and the subsequent reversion to where recruiting stands today with him back in full control?

I’m not going to do it but would be cool to tie my anecdotal opinions with validated data.
