I have a very close friend that knows Adam Cushing well. I think your statement is about as valid as FSU winning the ACC this year. Wow, you couldn't be more wrong lol

I don't think Cristobal and Mirabal forgot how to recruit offensive tackles, especially after watching Cantwell toss people all spring.

I also don't think it's about playing time. We play freshmen, and even if Matthews played RT (which he does in high school) he could still go Top 10 like Mauigoa and Fano.

So all that leads me to this conclusion: I think the kid just wants to go to Texas A&M. I don't understand it, but I'm not him. These guys are all different. Texas A&M did a better job recruiting him and looks like they'll win this battle. It's a brutal loss for the Canes.

All we can do is take the L and move forward. Consider it the recruiting version of the SMU game. Focus on Olu Olubobola and get it done. Elite offensive tackles are rare, and there is a big drop off to the next group (as we see in the first round of the NFL Draft). This needs to be a position where we continue to spend money on high school talent. Maybe we can flip Matthews back, but that's becoming less common in this era.

I still think we land a Top 5 class. But I also thought we'd get Matthews. So let's see what happens. We've got seven months. Go Canes.

Doubtful. He will either be starting and he isnt and something went wrong, he will likely stay because his NIL he signed there will be hire than what schools will be offering on the open market. Now the good news is that someone else will be available and the portal will always have options for us unless of course there is a major rules change.

One thing I learned in this year's NFL Draft...the NFL really respects Elko and the coaching they have there.

They just had 10 players drafted...4 of which were starting offensive linemen. 3 were defensive linemen and a TE that was overdrafted v. consensus based on his fit for the league. Two players from Duke that were coached by Elko also drafted (one DL, one OL).

Matthews is a tough L on the recruiting trail, and IMO, almost certainly will be drafted lower than he would be if he came here, but aTm under Elko is going to get guys like this as long as he's there. He's a good coach.

Seems very similar to when a&m got all the top dlineman and top players on campus 3-4 years ago and signed them all. Elko is better than that version of jimbo but yea they dropping crazy bags

Maybe I’m being naive but with this prospect in particular I’ll believe he’s not gonna be a cane when I see it. Until he commits to A&M I won’t believe he’s not coming here. Logic doesn’t always win but there’s just too many pro cane factors in this one for Mario to lose out imo

You are a really strong talent, but the road is littered with talented kids that spurned their hometown of Miami, and more importantly, the young kids in your own community who look up to you, only to regret that decision in a number of ways. You might be making the biggest mistake and experiencing the most significant lost opportunity of your life. In the immortal words of Thomas Sowell, “there are no solutions, there are only trade-offs.”

So what are the trade-offs?

Coaching - you have the opportunity to be coached by two of the best offensive line coaches in the entire country, and to show you how much they prioritize that offensive line, they just brought in a Tight Ends coach who received the Broyles Award for….having the best offensive line in the country. There is no other team at any level that places this type of emphasis on having exemplary offensive lines, and developing offensive line players.

Many blue-blood schools pat themselves on the back because they get 5-star players drafted in the NFL – however, it is not as difficult to get an already highly talented player and turn them into NFL players. What is far more impressive is when you take lesser talented players and develop them into NFL draft picks and Cristobol and Mirabal have few, if any, competitors on their level, and those guys are already coaching in the NFL. Coach Cristobol learned and played under Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson and worked with Nick Saban, as well as developing Penei Sewell, and recent first round selection Francis Mauigoa, among countless other linemen? Any money you make in current NIL money will pale in comparison as to what you will make if you develop into a top level NFL player.

Hometown Community - Other schools always like to negative recruit us with how many people they can shoehorn into their stadiums, versus how many attend our home games. The answer is simple; when Miami is winning, there is nothing like that hometown crowd and energy. Miami has not had great success over the last two decades, but that is changing in a big way, and when they are winning, nothing can match that atmosphere, NOTHING!

In small college towns, people show up in droves, because that is the highlight of their week – there is nothing else to do there. In Miami, they show the energy when teams are winning and to prove it, there is only one team that holds the all-time record for consecutive wins in their home stadium…it isn’t in College Station, Tuscaloosa, Athens, Red Stick or even Columbus…it’s a 58 game home winning streak in the city of MIami, and that record is likely to never be broken. Billionaires and celebrities like Lebron, Jeff Bezos, and Oprah aren’t looking for scenic views in the college towns mentioned above, they could live anywhere and they chose to live in Miami. Our home field hosts Super Bowls, College Football National Championships, and will host World Cup matches, what do the college town stadiums host?

Honest question – do you think anyone in College Station will remember you after your 3-4 years there? What if you don’t develop up to your potential? Just look at the local kids and how they reacted to seeing Malachi Toney in person. Do you think you can develop that kind of legend in College Station? There, you are another top level recruit that may or may not pan out, but they had the number 1 recruiting class of all-time, and how did that all work out? How many of those players are still there and how many of those players have developed over time? The connection you make to the college and the city it’s located, is a lifetime connection. After reaching the top levels of the sport, do you think those players go, “man I cannot wait to travel back to [insert any of the college towns above]!” They do that at Miami, particularly in the winter!

You cannot buy a championship team, as many teams have repeatedly found out. It’s about chemistry and how players play together. It’s developing a winning culture, and if Mario and Alex are recruiting you, it’s because they believe you can fit into that winning culture and mentality. Don’t lose out on that rare opportunity. I have no doubt Coach Cushing is a decent coach, but A&M is his first experience coaching at a top level program. There is nothing wrong with that, but are you willing to take a risk on your entire future on a coach who has been at A&M for 2 seasons? Just asking for a friend.

Unmatched Fraternity and Brotherhood - No other school can duplicate the brotherhood and family that is developed at Miami. Others can say that as a cliche, but you don’t see the level of family and closeness that former players have with each other, with current and past players and coaches, and The U itself! Few teams have had the success Miami has had in the short time of their dynasties and those are truly historical. Miami can roll out a group of gold jacket wearing NFL Hall of Famers on their sidelines, who can appear at the center of Hard Rock stadium, and we are not even done, as we may possibly have the record for the most NFL Hall of Famers of all time within the next several years.

You’d have to dig up the bodies from their cemeteries if you wanted to assemble the Hall of Famers for most of the other schools at the top of that list. I have no doubt, the current players and coaches will be appearing on the latest version of The U PART 3 talking about their national titles! There is no money in the world that can replace that type of brotherhood and legendary status! Do you think other schools have that mystique and legend? Not to my knowledge, except for maybe one, and that coach is gone and they are trending in the wrong direction. Become a part of that winning story, and keep in mind, we went into their 100,000+ seat stadium, and beat them in front of their home crowd. We also hold a 4-2 all-time series record against them. Don’t mess this up young man, you and your family deserve better!
