MaRiO NeEds his OwN GuYs

For me the concerning thing about Mario is that so far all the perceived possible negative stereotypes about him have unfortunately turned out to be true. Poor gameday coach, boring plodding offense, QB killer, etc. A lot of people excused or glossed over those issues when he was being hired. Obviously it's still early but I'm concerned.

While at Oregon Herbert's stats in his 2 years as HC don't exactly reflect a qb killer. And if TVD keeps playing the rest of the year like has has the last 2 games how does that change that perception of him 🤔. The clock management and his affinity to running the ball were well known, the former is a major issue and the latter is fine when you have the hosses up front who can make it plausible.

Herbert was better suited for early NFL success BECAUSE of Mario and his ire for gimmicky offense.

Justified or not it was a reputation he carried amongst some people. As far as tvd and the rest of the year, that's yet to be seen. I can only comment on what's actually happened so far this season. Even factoring in his recent success, the year overall is a disappointment for tvd so far.

Why do we continue to say look at stats for herbert instead of just watching those offenses man lol he made a Ferrari drive 15mph, this revisionist history on that situation within our fanbase is crazy man. Herbert would’ve been in talks for the #1 pick with burrow but people questioned him mainly because of the situation he was in

You're a really intelligent dude. And for that reason, you're beyond wasting your time with this one.

Stats provide empirical evidence tied to performance. Goal posts are being moved to say eye test matters more yet it's common practice for stats to be provided to support an argument within the realm of sports. Herbert wasn't ruined yet the offense left a lot to be desired, both things can be true simultaneously.

If someone is saying "ruined" that is the wrong word. I would think handcuffed, held back, or just plain underutilized would all be better descriptions to describe his time with Cristobal at the helm.

Herbert's last year at Oregon he passed for more than 300 yards 3 times in 14 games. One of those times was against Montana, which I believe is an FCS school. By comparison, he also passed for less than 200 yards 3 times in 14 games. He averaged 247 passing ypg which was good for 29th in the country. Not terrible, but also really reflective of his ability.

Herbert also had an excellent TD:INT at 32:6, and his QB rating was 14th in the country. Again, Cristobal didn't "ruin" Herbert, he just could've featured Herbert much more than he did.

I will say these last 2 games he offense seems to be evolving which is all that I can ask for.

At the end of the day people are just triggered and in their feelings about MC not being an air raid spread guy. If you aren't a video game offense you ruin players is the knee jerk reaction. I want to see a more creative, aggressive offense too but reaching for narratives isn't the way to go. At the end of the day Herbert was a top 10 pick and I doubt he's experiencing sleepless nights upset about how his experience with MC as coach played out.

Dwayne Haskins (RIP) threw 50 TDs his last season at Ohio State.

How did work out?

What is the argument in favor of running something other than a "video game offense"?

OSU went 13-1 and finished ranked 3rd?

And was an absolute bust at the next level.

This is y it’s absolutely insane to compare what a guy did at the NFL to college & vise versa. The two r not synonymous. It’s the most straw man argument there is.
