During Mario Cristobal's Monday press conference he provided an injury update on Miami Hurricanes defensive back OJ Frederique, after playing two snaps against the Stanford Cardinal.

According to Cristobal, Frederqiue will be out for quite some time: [It's a] pretty significant injury, so he'll be down for quite a while." Cristobal did not provided a time table for when Frederique will be back.

Coming into the 2026–27 college football season, Frederique was considered the focal point of the Hurricanes' secondary. The Hurricanes next couple of games are tune-up games before they travel to Clemson. So, hopefully he gets to feeling better before the team travel in a tough environment.

This past season, Frederique played a huge role in the Hurricanes' secondary, recording a total of 19 tackles and seven pass deflections. He blew up his freshman season, totaling for 27 tackles and one interception.

Due to the injury, junior defensive back Damari Brown was inserted into the game to replace Frederqiue. This is a huge blow for the Hurricanes secondary. Now, it is time to see what player steps up in his spot.

The Hurricanes will kick off against the FAMU Rattlers this Thursday inside Hard Rock Stadium.

Yep remember Miami lost to a 2 win Pitt team in 2017, Syracuse and Ga Tech beat a top 10 Miami team in 2024, and Louisville beat a top 5 Miami team last year at home as a 2 td underdog. Anything could happen. Christ Boise State was minutes away from beating Oregon on the road.

Depends how you define separation. Very plausible TBH. I've had both a AC joint separation on both shoulders and a broken clavicle. AC joint separation would mean he'd be out for a few weeks to a month. It took a week or two of recovery for me but playing football is way different

But Mario said a significant time out. That doesn’t sound like he’ll be back in two weeks or whatever.

 

Lucas went out at some point but came back so I can't imagine he's that injured. O'Connor wasn't 100% going in but played. FAMU is atrocious. Sit everyone and let the freshmen get some burn.

If Lucas and O’Connor aren’t 100% Thursday sit them. Then have them ready for Wake next Friday. Those are your two biggest players right now because Brown can’t be trusted and then you have a bunch of freshman and sophs.

 

He suffered a big injury last year, it took him one snap into the season to suffer a big injury this year. You do that in the NFL and you are getting cut after the season.

Jordyn Tyson is ‘injury prone,’ went first round, and just got injured again. Chris Bell got drafted on a torn ACL. It’s a violent sport. Guys get injured all the time. Jamal Adams has a ton of injuries. Nate Hobbs. Adoree Jackson. Artie Burns. And so on. Plenty of work to be found post-injury if you’re like that.

OJ didn’t suffer a BIG injury last year lol. He missed 5 games and returned for the playoffs. By your logic we would’ve cut loose w/ Damari Brown who we are now depending on because of these other injuries. And we’d have to kick Antoine to the curb after this year too.

Yes 70% of the people on here are absolutely insufferable. Hair on fire at the first sign of trouble. Lucas came back on, O’Connor played. Other guys have a chance and have to step up. And we have an O that’s gonna can to blow for blow.

 

stanford player had a broken clavicle that was so bad he had to have pins surgically inserted. That would be a "pretty significant injury." Yet he was back in just around 2 weeks. I am curious about the specifics of the injury.
