Marcus Lemonis Offers $1 Mil Pledge Toward Move To Trop Park

What are the reasons to get a stadium in or around Coral Gables?

Serious question. Why do people think there needs to be a stadium on campus? Cant be for the students, only a few thousand even attend the games.
Don't you think they would be more inclined to attend games if the stadium was closer to campus? It's kind of an expensive ordeal for an 18 year old kid to get to SLS. Not to mention, SLS just sucks. A fancier roof isn't going to change that.

I don't know. I think if they can, the administration really needs to try and get a stadium around Orlando.

So for 6 days out of the year there would be traffic congestion and noise...big ******* deal. Put that **** on campus!

Ok. There's zero room for an on-campus stadium. This post not only makes me think you've never been on the campus, but in Coral Gables for that matter. That city is practically congested every single day. I can only imagine what game day would be like. Also, where's this magical parking garage going to be as there really isn't any real estate available for a parking garage that size.

If they got creative and were willing to knock down some of those older dorms, they could fit something in there next to the BUC. But I agree that this would never happen because the admin just doesn't care that much to do it, and the city wouldn't allow it. Plus parking would be a nightmare, but USC is similar. Our best bet is tropical park

Yeah, it's not the expense that's the hindrance, it's the time and distance.

I know everyone always says that there's no way an on campus stadium is a possibility. Restrictions of the City of Coral Gables, lack of space on campus, cost, traffic, noise, ect. are some of the reasons always sited as why this would probably never get done, but I would like for those of you with a better understanding of the dynamics at play to tell me whether or not something like this can be done to maybe overcome some of the road blocks.

Is there enough space on campus at the site of Mark Light stadium to build a multi-use facility for both baseball and football?

View attachment 33905

If there is, why can't we build an enclosed (more on this later), 45,000 seat, football/baseball stadium there?

Traffic

* Can some of the traffic concerns be alleviated by busing in a portion of those attending the game from an off campus parking lot/garage combined with limited near stadium parking?

* Yes, we will be busing people in and congesting the roads more than usual. However, on the flip side, the students would no longer have to be bused 45 minutes to Sun Life (and then back again) so some of the gameday traffic on the streets of Coral Gables would cancel out.

* Busing people from off-campus might alleviate some of the concern that building a stadium in the heart of Coral Gables would bring more people and more crime to the city since those people attending the game would be less likely to linger afterwards since they would be reliant on the shuttle service to get back to their cars.

Reasons for an enclosed facility

* I hate domes (especially for college football) but I think building an enclosed facility (with the right materials) can ease some of the noise concerns the City of Coral Gables would have.

* An enclosed facility would eliminate the need for a separate fundraising campaign for a $20-$25m indoor practice facility, allowing UM to raise money for one project that would give them both.

Cost

*Cost can be offset by donations, ticket sales, the selling of luxury suits, parking fees and the selling of the stadium naming rights.

*Obviously, an on campus stadium would eliminate the need to buy a separate piece of land to build a stadium.

I'm fully prepared to be told that this is impossible and that an on-campus stadium is an absurd fantasy. I just want to get some some input from you guys as to why or why not something like this can or can't get done...d

Have you ever set foot on the Miami campus? This post makes me seriously doubt you ever have. The only space is the field next to Mahoney Pearson and there is not enough room for a football stadium there.

I obviously haven't or I would have never asked whether or not there was enough room to get something like this done. Looking at the campus from Google Earth it looks like the only area on campus where this might be a possibility would be where the intramural fields are, and even that would probably be an extremely tight fit if it is possible at all.

How many students do you think attend the games now?

How many students do you think will attend if it is on campus?

Let's ignore the free transportation. Miami fan base is not the student body.

Stadium on Campus is NEVER going to happen. So why do people want to move the Stadium further south? SLS is centrally located between Dade and Broward County. Is there a concern Miami's fan base from Homestead is having an issue driving up?

Some of you saying SLS sucks clearly have not been to other stadiums. Let's see what the stadium is like next year when the renovation is complete.

What does need to change is the Locker room Miami uses at Sun Life needs to be renovated and Canes colors and logos need to be incorporated for Game days. Recruits notice it. Playing in an NFL stadium with premium tailgating and alcoholic beverages is a plus.

I've been to many stadiums, and I can say without a shout of a doubt SLS sucks. Especially for College Football. Kids rather play at the Swamp or Doak. Quit playing yourself.

unless coral gables councilmen all die choking on a bag of bribes from its citizens, no stadium shall be built on campus. these elderly stuffy krack errs banned sorority houses because a group of women living in the same house = ***** house (kind of true but still)

to make matters worse, self righteous students who attend um think ***** ditch is more important than a practice facility for the football team. hence the intramural field will stand.

on top of that, roughly a quarter billion dollars will be spent on renovating the dorms while our football team goes homeless. but we have to make the lgbt weirdos feel "safe" by isolating them. ok.

tropical park is perfect. and whoever is salty about sun life being in the middle of broward and dade: it's university of MIAMI not BROWARD. so stfu

I've been on the WEZ discussion about this with some interesting feedback. Let me say right up front that I personally don't care either way.

Sun Life is undergoing renovations. No decision will be made until they are complete. The shade alone will make it a much more enjoyable experience.

Yes, there are fans and donors that live to the north. They vote with donations and non-profits like UM live off donations, so the powers that be walk on eggshells. It can take just one well connected donor to have an impact.

The clubhouses in Sun Life are a big part of the revenue. Sun Life only holds about 4,000 more than the OB. Does anyone really think Joe Robbie decided to foot the bill for a new stadium because he was concerned about the cheap seaters getting stuck in traffic?

Tropical Park is a pretty good solution given the proximity to the Palmetto Expressway. Fans from the north can take the Sawgrass and Palmetto. It only increases the drive by 30 minutes. Apparently Santa's Enchanted Forest has 20+ years left on their lease at TP, so the cost just went up.

I don't honestly see this happening, not that I don't want it to, I just don't think it will.

How are people really reacting negatively to this? Do some of you do business with Stephen Ross or Stuart Miller?

No, they're Broward people who only think of themselves rather what is best for the program.

That's somewhat the case but I also know plenty of people that live in Lauderdale on north that would gladly drive an extra 45 mins or w/e for a real atmosphere. A smaller venue would render the people that are fraudulent fans not willing to drive meaningless anyway if they aren't already. Those are usually the kind of sissies that won't go to a game based on chance of rain or the heat index anyway.

Is Tropical Park a feasible site? Didn't a UM student come on here once talking about a feasibility study they did in one of his classes?

Is there anymore we can do to create for support for this? It seems like the administration hates talking about it.

Been to Neyland, Doak, the Swamp, Rose Bowl, Sun Devil Stadium, Georgia Dome, Sugar Bowl, the Shoe, Orange Bowl, FAU, UCF, Citrus Bowl before and after reno, Raymond James, the Big House, etc.

Without a doubt, SLS is the biggest sh1thole I've ever been to. Just for example, yesterday there was flooding everywhere because the bozos who built it didn't add enough drains. I was sitting first row in the end zone and was standing in 3-4" of water, not to mention that the field looked like a lake because it is not crowned with drains on the sidelines like many other stadiums. Likewise, the concourses and ramps had water running down them like a river because there are no drains or culverts. I'm amazed that a big fat @ss hasn't been injured and sued TBH.

Also, literally 50% of the already tiny lower deck (including the 40 to 40 on both sides!!!) is for overpriced luxury seats that are always open.

Furthermore, the stadium is a mile from the field, the viewing angles are terrible, the seats are teal, and the video boards are not situated properly (way too high).

The renovation is a joke as the stadium is actually worse in many ways than before including the fact that we now have a lower deck consisting of 50% club and luxury seats that will always be empty, now the teams have to cross each other to get to the tunnels (already resulted in 2 fights!!!), etc.

This stadium is a sh1thole and the engineers should be exiled and prevented from associating with society. It is THAT bad. Hands down the worse stadium for football or baseball I've EVER been to. The world would be a better place if SLS miraculously imploded on itself.

Yeah, that's it. Tear down the dorms. And what about all of those classrooms. If we level those, we could build a stadium, indoor practice facility, player housing, etc. Once we get rid of any semblance of a university, we should be able to build at will.
