Revisionist history at its finest.
You paint a pretty rosy picture of the tie guy.
He lost a ton of battles on the recruiting front. There are no coaches who haven't. His class rankings average was somewhere around 13 or 14 if you take out his first year of 33. He had high turnover and had large classes until the reductions came into play that helped those class rankings, 24, 27, and 18. When your numbers are reduced, it allows you to focus on select individuals more and that last class of his had the lowest amount, but ranked the highest.
As to who he found, tough call on that one. Coaches find players all the time, but it's isn't always the head guy doing the finding. Those guys you listed, they were largely average Joe's here with Howard as the best of the bunch while here.
Manny does leave some to be desired on the front. The image of the school as a power is the lowest it's been since before we started our run. People don't take that into consideration when saying we should land this guy, the coaches are lazy and suck because they didn't.
Al sucked, just like Randy, and Coker before him. No amount of time will change that, it's all there for people to see.
