Retweet on Herald website from Malek Young indicating he is out of surgery. I don't tweet nor do I know how to retweet, TOO OLD, sorry.
If he is communicating that seems to be a good sign.

Don't say it's not a family. Godspeed to Malek

God Bless Malek, Cane family is FOR LIFE.

That's a young man you tell your kids about, a true role model & an inspiring person to stay strong through this time.

While this **** continues to make me sad every time I think about it, the one thing that gives me solace is the way he's carried himself since the news. By all accounts, Malek was a great young man and now he's not gonna be able to pursue his dream any further, but that hasn't stopped him from maintaining an incredible attitude throughout the ordeal and really since he's been here. I hope he continues to serve as a role model to the local youth, some of whom could really use a mentor like him to teach them lessons in maturity and character. Regardless of what he chooses to do moving forward, he will definitely be a Cane for life; much-respect.

SIAP I went back and watched the game as I was curious how he was injured. It was really a freak injury. It happened on the kick off following our first TD. Up until that point he had only played a handful of plays as he was coming in on 3rd downs.

The play was pretty much over and he hit his guy face mask to face mask in an innocent looking block, and he fell to the ground oddly. The camera then went off him and you didn't see him again until they showed him walking to the locker room later in the game. Anyway, I know some posters were wondering when it happened and once again SIAP.

Hate that Malek won't be out on the field this coming season.

Hope we do something, like let a player each week wear his jersey. On our way to winning the conference.

Young man was a big part of the turn around we have seen.

Get well soon young man! You may not be able to play football any longer. But you have your whole life ahead of you and are on a path to graduate from the U. That’s a better future potential than 95%+ of others your age can claim.

Man this is brutal. Pray for Malik, he’ll be a future success at whatever he does.

Had the same surgery. C 4-5-6. Titanium plate and screws. Still have tingling and numbness in the left arm and hand. The spinal column isn't something to take lightly. I had to wear the collar Malik is wearing for 6 weeks. The day I got home from the hospital, while wearing the collar, I tried to lay down in bed and was blacking out and felt like I stuck a finger in a light socket. Serious ****!

That picture of Malik is both inspiring and devastating.

Best of luck to the young man.
