Major Applewhite: The art of failing forward

He may not have produced even top 10 offenses but is anyone going to argue with the fact that if we even have the 40th ranked offense last year with our defense we’re probably undefeated in the regular season ?

Keep in mind we finished 10-1 with the 65th ranked offense in 2017

additionally, let’s say we do give Briles all the credit for improving Houston’s offense so drastically. Are we going to act like Applewhite , an offensive coach, sat there with his thumb up his *** while Briles Installed the offense ? He watched Briles offense take their ranking from 65th to 7th and learned absolutely nothing huh ? Yeahhhhh ok

Just a thought, but seeing as Whitey learned from Herman and ran that offense is it also not remotely possible he also learned some from Briles, despite being a head coach? Or maybe people stay stagnant all their lives and fail to improve, what do I know.

Just because Richt sucked doesn't mean we should settle for 40th best...

I will simply say that it is a gamble if he is the guy. I am speaking strictly as far as his competence as an OC. As a recruiter, he opens up Texas for us as much as anyone ever has and the surrounding areas. He'll get talent here and to me, that is more than half of the battle. So in the end, I feel it'll be a solid hire, but if he stumbles out of the gate that could spell his doom. Gotta get off to a fast start with an offense that is fun and exciting to recruit our local talent base.

How does this man do it? What is his secret? Has there ever been a college coach that’s failed forward more the Applewhite?

Mediocre offenses at texas
Fired from Alabama
Mediocre offenses at Houston as OC
Fired as HC at Houston

All this fail, yet somehow this man keeps getting jobs and he’s now the leading OC candidate at Miami, after being fired last week??? It’s not going to work, because he’s not that good at anything except failing forward.

C’mon, Manny...we deserve better...the players deserve a cutting edge OC you promised. Applewhite ain’t it!
Where has he not been fired from? Asking because I don’t know.

if he learned anything from Briles we’ll be better than that

If the HC has to learn from his OC, why are we hiring him? I trust James Coley more than this guy because at the very least we know Coley will recruit at a high level. He was able to field a decent offense under Al Golden of all people, with Swasey as his S&C coach. We had 2 ACC Freshman of the year awards on offense with Coley as our OC (Duke and Stacy). I have trust that Coley could be pushed by Diaz to make better adjustments when his first 2 drives are elite then drive's 3 and 4 aren't as aggressive. I just really don't know what Applewhite will be elite at, and I honestly don't even know how to pick at his scheme because he's been all over the place and fired for mediocrity at every stop.

I’m buying you a beer. Finally, someone with a clear head.

Folks have the bar set so low, because of Richts ineptitude, they’re accepting mediocrity as some kind of ‘win.’ There are actually folks pointing to the ONE time in his entire career he fielded a top 30 offense as proof of his genius.

Applewhite is a middle of the road OC, and as you stated, we don’t know what he’s elite at, because he’s never shown an elite coaching skillset, he’s been all of the place with schemes (with no sustained success with any of them) or was fired for non performance.

There is absolutely nothing cutting edge about Applewhite as a playcaller or what he deploys. He’s been a middle of the road OC/HC coach at every stop, that was twice fired for non performance. But that’s who we want at Miami? No **** way. We can do better. We MUST do better.

Applewhite is a bunt. Manny needs to hit the OC hire out of the park

Why would he not ? That’s what a smart coach does , learns from anyone possble. Dude was a first time HC

We were 60th , 41st , and 59th in total offense with Coley at OC btw . 48th, 61st, and 76th with in scoring . You’re fine with him tho right lmao

His offense looked great against Texas[/QUOTE]

Clear head ? He just said he wants Coley who put even worse stats at when he was actually our OC than Applewhite did. Really raising the bar there

Halfback pass in the snow

Um. Yes, because Coley was known for being an elite at SOMETHING (scripting drives), also like I said, Coley is easily one of the Top 40 recruiting coaches. We KNOW where his offense can improve and we KNOW his weakness. Applewhite has not been known for recruiting, and has been fired for performance 3 times now, twice as an OC.
Coley has been fired a grand total of 0 times. He coached Andre Johnson, Roscoe Parrish, and Dwayne Bowe as a high school coach. Who is on Applewhite's resume?

I think in year one if he can get us in the top 40/50 in offense (I know low bar) we win 10 games next season and have a great shot versus Florida

If he can do that it would be like a 60+ spot increase over the year before

Wtf good is scripting plays if it’s resukts in worse offensive production than Applewhites ? Please explain that because I don’t understand . Applewhite got fired because he made a bad decision to hire D’nofrio . He still made the good decision to hire Briles and went 8-5 . We weren’t even going to fire Richt and he went 7-6 lmao .

How well did Coley do recruiting here when he didn’t have bags behind him ? Who did he really land us, Coley , Yearby, and who else ? Lmao foh . He coached QBs Johnson and Parrish were in school lol . And what does him coaching there have to do with his ability as an OC ? That’s your argument ? He coached QBs when Andre Johnson was in high school 20 years ago ? Lmao

1. First off lets get this straight, I don't want Coley or Major Applewhite. I just would prefer Coley over Applewhite.

- Golden had Coley go conservative when we took leads. That affects the offensive production. It also wasn't worse than Applewhite's which I ignored the last time you said it because APPLEWHITE WASNT RUNNING THE OFFENSE. At one point during the Golden regime, GOLDEN SAID IN HIS PRESS CONFERENCE THAT THE OFFENSE WAS SCORING TOO FAST, THE DEFENSE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO REST AND THATS WHY THEY WERE PLAYING SO BADLY.
- He didn't even make the decision to hire Onofrio, he consulted Todd Orlando about it because he couldn't make a good decision his **** self. Art Briles was a well known elite defensive coach who had just turned FAU's offense elite the year prior. While he literally hired someone coaching YMCA for defense. I don't see how we're just going to ignore that.
- What does Richt have to do with any of this?
- The fact that you forgot Chad Thomas, Kevin Olsen and Brad Kaaya is funny to me. But go on about how he didn't recruit here.
- Yes, he coached THEM 20 years ago, who has Applewhite coached?
