@MiamiRadioBeast: In communicating with someone very close to the situation..it would seem unless circumstances change drastically...Al will be here next year

...a loss to Pitt. A Pitt loss results in some possible outcomes of which one is Al Golden is gone. Probably 50/50.

disgraceful. part of the universities job is to prepare kids for their future careers. The medical school hires the best, the law school hires the best, yet the football program which lets be honest, quite a few of these kids are developing so they can play in NFL has not provided them with the best coaching. unreal

If Shalala wasn't punching out, I would agree, there would be a good chance of him going. Maybe even better than 50/50, but with her leaving, I just don't see her getting mixed up in firing a coach. She's going to pass the buck. UM is not Alabama, where the alumni and hoards of major boosters and the BOT will be screaming bloody murder for a decision on the football program. Its just not the top priority for the brass at UM.

I think he's here next year barring some sort of miracle.

I agree Al's best bet is to negotiate his buyout with Miami and resign.

He would get a job on ESPN as an analyst immediately making a very nice low stress living.

Memories are short....somebody will throw $ at him a few years from now if he wants it.

Will no longer support the team until he is gone.

Pitt will be my last game for the foreseeable future.

Who cares what "sources" are saying. They are banking on Al still wanting to be here. It's been obvious that Al does not want to be here and after what he's experience this year, with his beloved pillars collapsing, he's going to want out. If he wanted desperately out last year, what do you think he wants this year?

People need to keep check with reality here.

These are not the same circumstances as the Shannon situation. So expecting the same timetable is going to lead to a lot of heartache.

1. Shannon did not have this kind of buyout and this much left on his contract.
2. Shalala was not stepping down and the University was not without a clear head at that time. This is probably the single Biggest issue right now. She's not going to pull the trigger as she's stepping down, and a new guy is not going to walk in and make his first major decision be firing a football coach. The timing of this almost ensures that this situation continues.
3. The media is still talking about the "cloud" and the NCAA mess. This seems to have bought Golden more time and excuses then Shannon had. It was just last week that Herbstreit and a lot of media talking heads were bashing the "Banner" fans and defending Golden.

As bad as things now stand, the powers that matter don't seem to be focused on the issue at all, and its not likely they are going to act to remedy it this year.

I think people need to expect the worst, and hope for the best. But the reality is that there is probably NO help coming. Not this year. It is what it is.
i keep saying that, but no one wants to listen. shapiro will buy al leeway, whether you think it's warranted or not, it just will ..maybe it just buys him one extra year.. but i think they will give it to him. People keep bringing up the shannon golden race thing, completely ignoring the circumstances of the program when they both arrived.

There you go, still making excuses for Golden. **** off.

This is the unfortunate truth. A loss to Pitt does nothing but contribute to the further embarrassment of this once proud program. Golden will be back next year. I just hope the next President cares about winning.

Hate to be a bearer of bad news or reality checking this moanfest but most likely this is a six year turnaround job so I don't think Golden is going anywhere this year. Everyone thinks that a 4 year turnaround is what coaches should be judged by but that is extremely rare. It took Butch 6 years to get UM back into National relevance. Just a little reality check to avoid the heartbreak of at least another year of Golden.

Different situation in that the full brunt of sanctions hit Miami in year 3 and Butch went 5-6 in 1997. Miami finished 9-3 in 1998. I think the fact that Miami finished strong and competed against FSU in 1999 set the stage for 2000.

The details of each situation might be difference but the overall picture is the same. You can't make excuses for Butch then dismiss the excuses for Golden. They both had NCAA cloud/sanctions to deal with.

It might have been a turn around and rebuild, but by year 4 you shouldn't continue to see issues that were present in year 1. The coaching is problem number 1 whch means there should be a change.

True. But back to my point both Butch and Golden had issues that were present in year 1 still present in year 4. Some stuff has gotten better some are still present. People were calling for Butch's head in year 4 also. Golden needs to make coaching changes as Butch had to do. I think he is going to be here for at least another year if not 2 and all the whining and moaning is not going to change that.

Not an insider but from someone that is on the sidelines each week. He says 100% that Golden is here next year. TIFWIW

Sounds like a logical conclusion to me. Hopefully Jethro and williams are gone. Though I lie Carroll as a recruiter Wideouts have sucked this year as did TE when he was coaching them. I wouldn't mind seeing him move on.

stop pitch forks were out after the Syracuse debacle and a week later Butch brought himself two more years by knocking off UCLA at home. Guess what Golden had the same opportunity and he **** the bed against FSU (thank god it was literally my worse nightmare) then a week later he burned that bed and the house to the **** ground. He has no goodwill left except for those that have a personal attachment to him and are just to stubborn to admit that he sucks and that they backed the wrong horse. There is no justifiable reason for him to be here in a month.

You're full of crap. You don't compare this ****** clown with Butch!

Butch lost 31 scholarships over three years - Golden didn't lose a single one.

Imagine Golden 31 scholarships down - and not by attrition! He wouldn't have won a single game!

Pitt game is a deja vu. Shannon was safe until he lost and then he was gone. Golden loses to Pitt he's toast.

THIS

Shannon wasn't "safe". He was on the verge after the UVA loss too. He beat Maryland and GT with Morris. He had Virginia Tech at home. He wins that game and we would've been safe. He lost that game and the team(Golden with FSU). USF was just the last push they needed to make it final. Similar story this year. Just so happens the UVA loss came later in the season. I have no doubt that if we're not up two scores after the first quarter we'll lose. No motivation. No one in the building. Pitt wants to make a bowl. Big, physical running game. Grind the clock(us and them). Make it tough. We'll look up and before we know it in is the 4th and Pitt is up by a score.
