Lu, D$ what's the word?

Shannon's fate was decided after his 5th loss of the season at the hands of USF.

Golden already dropped his 5th game. In a blowout. To a 4-6 team.

USF was 6-4 that season going into the Miami game. They went to a bowl and finished 8-5.

At least Radio lost to a winning team!

I think he's done. If the admin already has in their mind that if he loses next week he is done then that's it. It's pathetic to have to think that way about your coach. He can't be comfortable at the Hecht. His agent was prob sending out feelers during the second half of the game to other schools. He's burnt out here and will probably make him a better coach for another team with the experience he had here. Just make it happen already.

if we lose to pitt badly and lose the bowl game badly, i think he's gone. otherwise, he stays and fires donofrio

If he is going, he will be gone after Pitt. No need to coach the bowl game. They won't fire him before Senior day. The admin need to get rid of Golden

People need to keep check with reality here.

These are not the same circumstances as the Shannon situation. So expecting the same timetable is going to lead to a lot of heartache.

1. Shannon did not have this kind of buyout and this much left on his contract.
2. Shalala was not stepping down and the University was not without a clear head at that time. This is probably the single Biggest issue right now. She's not going to pull the trigger as she's stepping down, and a new guy is not going to walk in and make his first major decision be firing a football coach. The timing of this almost ensures that this situation continues.
3. The media is still talking about the "cloud" and the NCAA mess. This seems to have bought Golden more time and excuses then Shannon had. It was just last week that Herbstreit and a lot of media talking heads were bashing the "Banner" fans and defending Golden.

As bad as things now stand, the powers that matter don't seem to be focused on the issue at all, and its not likely they are going to act to remedy it this year.

I think people need to expect the worst, and hope for the best. But the reality is that there is probably NO help coming. Not this year. It is what it is.

Hate to agree with this, but this is correct.

What this all says is we need to hope and pray that he is marketable enough to get a job at Rutgers.

The "new guy" wouldn't even take over until June. So if Golden isn't gone this year the new guy's first year at the helm will be one where he or she will be part of a season-long dumpster fire regarding the firing of the football coach. We're gonna suck next year and it will be unbearable. Shalala(not even sure her retiring even matters in this situation, firing Golden might not be her call) isn't doing that person any favors. She doesn't even like Golden from what people have said.

On one hand people say the administration is backwards and counter productive. So why are we predicting what they'll do in line with how normal institutions handle things?

Yes, this is how it plays out , I think also. But, staff changes will need to be made on the defensive side . This buys Golden and the under fire administration one more year. But, if a total collapse in the Pitt and bowl game occurs, all bets are off IMO

Lol at waiting until after the bowl (late December)

Might as well keep the ******* as all good options will have been hired elsewhere

1. Shannon had just signed a 4-year extension when he was fired.
2. Why would she make the next President oversee the firing of a football coach? The President doesn't make that decision, anyway ... The BOT does, and they direct the AD. The President "rubber-stamps" their decision. Go back to when Al was hired ... She admitted she knew nothing about him, other than he is tall. If the BOT decides Al should go, she'll sign off. I think it would be easier for her to do it, and leave the new person with one less headache.
3. The media has done a 180 since the UVA debacle. Some saw our 3 blowouts, and how close we played FSU, and thought the corner had been turned. And had we blown out UVA, I would have been in that crowd. But getting blown out by UVA has changed the tone for most of the national media. Cloud or nah, that loss is indefensible and unacceptable ... The game wasn't close after the 1st quarter ... And UVA is not good.

All of that noted ... You're still probably right ... No help is coming. And that's a clear sign from the BOT and administration that their focus of football is over.

And they'll promote the success of Coach L at every opportunity to distract us ...

I certainly don't have inside info but this would seem to be the most likely way we have a new HC in 2015. I just don't see us canning him this year.

Look folks, we got about as much chance of seeing Golden go as we do getting green helmets.

Oh wait..

it is mind boggling that we have to even speculate whether he gets fired. he should have been fired about 10 times already.

He loses to Pitt w 5,000 in attendance, and it's curtains. Outrage would be unbearable otherwise.
They have somewhat of a choice right now albeit it a bad one. But going 6-6 in year 4? No way he retains his job

then lets root for Pitt. fly the banner. **** Al right in his face

Hate to be a bearer of bad news or reality checking this moanfest but most likely this is a six year turnaround job so I don't think Golden is going anywhere this year. Everyone thinks that a 4 year turnaround is what coaches should be judged by but that is extremely rare. It took Butch 6 years to get UM back into National relevance. Just a little reality check to avoid the heartbreak of at least another year of Golden.
