Loss of Norton on defense in 2018

I could see Norton as a more effective 3 tech in the NFL.
I agree completely. One thing he does have is a great first step. He’s listed around 315 which isn’t crazy big. If he dropped 10 pounds or so and lowered his body fat I think he could be a huge mismatch there with his strength and get off. It appears to me that he struggles when he doesn’t win initially. But occasionally his first step and strength really make a difference. Given 1-on-1 opportunities he would really thrive

He did more in 2016, look I like Norton a lot but was a bit disappointed with how he played this year overall. He still has upside at the position though for sure

I think a lot of his lower numbers is because of RJ taking a major step up from the years past, still his job was to demand double teams and clog up lanes and attack

The comments about UVA being subpar make no sense. Even bad teams have good units and good players. Their interior OL was pretty **** solid based on that film. OTs struggled and RBs sucked in pass pro.

You also have to consider strengths/weaknesses. UVA OL seemed to be strong at the point of attack but couldn’t handle the speed of our front 7 or picking up blitzes. Norton makes plays when he is able to overpower guys. When they match it he has to rely on his first step almost exclusively or it just ends up a stalemate at the LOS. Doesn’t win often when he doesn’t win initially I’m the first few steps. And at that point he did exactly what he should do and hold up blockers.

this is what happens when you watch a vid and don't know what to look for or don't understand what you are looking at
Watch the season and you will see the same thing, maybe my expectations were too high for him on the season but imo he definitely should have played better. It’s not just this film, it was throughout multiple games which is what my first comment alluded to in the first place.

Posts like this make this board suck. Youre obviously trying to use my post to make some point about coaching. How about you just make your point instead of quoting me and aksing me some question that has nothing to do with my post? Don’t dance around like a fairy. Say what you mean. It isn’t that hard. Not every thread has to be some referendum on coaching.
so kool isn't a good coach? I'm confused

These guys were huge reasons why we were able to bust up the meat of our ACC schedule.

The constant frustration of blowing ****** games against subpar opponents in the ACC ended, in part, because of great DL play.

But still, as some others noted, the play against the elite competition proved these guys are good, but not on the level we need to get where we are trying to go.
