Loss of Norton on defense in 2018

I don’t see laziness in that film at all. He isn’t shedding blocks and making tfls, but he is getting doubled and chipped the majority of that video. Imo, he could hold that chip a lil longer to slow up the olineman getting to the second level....

Quan should also be thanking Norton for that pick 6....

agreed, no laziness. he's double teamed most of the time and playing with effort.

The irony is, for a guy who's supposed to be a run stuffer, he actually looked better rushing the passer in those Virginia clips. He looked like he was getting a good push, even against a double team when rushing the passer. Against the run he looked much worse. There are quite a few clips of him getting man handled by a Virginia guard in one on one scenarios. His anchor, for a guy that big, doesn't look impressive. When he doesn't beat his man with quickness, he gets moved. A lot.

But is also a true freshman that will need to get stronger. Very few Freshman DT's can make a huge impact because it's a whole new ballgame going against college OL.

Yes, and I've made that very statement in response to the Nesta hype.

My point was that Miller is legit, can contribute right away and provide similar impact as Norton in 2019 and beyond. Norton is quicker but I think Miller can be a more effective pass rusher because he can shrink the pocket with his bullrush ability.

He took plays off probably not to risk injury. Him and McIntosh both had periods of inconsistency this season but both also dominated as well.

Regardless their impact is replaceable. Willis is a better talent than RJ, and Nesta has top UM DT of all time potential. Even guys like Ford and Miller have more physical talent than Norton.

The DT position will be an upgrade over the last 2 years bc the players still on the team are another year older and Nesta.

Just as easily as you could show one game to try & make your argument, you could put on the Duke, GTech, Va Tech & FSU tape that shows otherwise.

He didn't play at as high of a level as he could, he had a much better year statistically in 2016 than he did last year, but to say he played lazy is just plain stupid.

We lost a guy that is projected to go somewhere in the range of rounds 3-5 and we have no proven 1-tech on the roster... and you're saying that the eventual starter will provide at least what Norton provided? wow.
Yeah because it’s impossible to replace a 5th round pick with a better player at Miami.

****, Tito Bandito put up almost the same numbers as Norton as a backup on one of the worst teams in P5.

lol. And Ford has done what? Even his high school production was underwhelming. Anyone that doesn't see what a liability we are at DT is blind
Norton’s tape might prove we were a liability at one of the DT spots for most of last season too.

Norton is very good but he is replaceable. I think people are freaking out a bit because it has been so long since e had competent DTs. But remember that in 2016 Norton and McIntosh were total unknowns and produced immediately. By all accounts Ford is a great talent so I am excited to see him.
so kool is a great coach?

Lets actually see where he gets drafted. He was a solid player here but not consistent. Sometimes he flashed all conference type talent and other times was just slightly better than a JAG. Im worried about our depth at DT for sure, but this was more of a loss from the standpoint that unlike RJ it made no sense for him to make the jump.

kids like norton and RJ are why Clemson and others schools are better than us. they get kids to come back unless they are first day picks.
We have golden leftovers who "just want to make an ACC title game" "just want to get drafted" etc. these kids arent driven on the same level.

All season, but this is a mediocre opponent and he didn’t flash. He’s good but he Could have been more impactful this season

I dont see laziness tbh he’s taking on blocks, he had a heck of a game against FSU, a lot of people were playing sub par in that UVA game

Hes doing what the scheme has him doing taking on blocks and when they had him attack hed get off the blocks and attack the QB
He did more in 2016, look I like Norton a lot but was a bit disappointed with how he played this year overall. He still has upside at the position though for sure

Posts like this make this board suck. Youre obviously trying to use my post to make some point about coaching. How about you just make your point instead of quoting me and aksing me some question that has nothing to do with my post? Don’t dance around like a fairy. Say what you mean. It isn’t that hard. Not every thread has to be some referendum on coaching.
