Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

We got a lot of pieces to replace come next season. Can't be blowing a wad on mediocre players. Got to find the guys that fit our mentality. Gonna be a lot of guys looking to jump on the train that just don't embody who we are. Trenches are the priority especially when your replacing 3 1st round picks.
Facts. People overlook we arent just looking for talent but guys who have the intangibles we require. The locker room is in an amazing place right now and we wont want to jeopardize it with hasty portal adds.

Man IU is not messing around…

They’re serious about sustaining this thing…
They are hitting while the iron it hot and have a good financial backing right now. It's paying huge dividends with the momentum they have going.

Cignetti is a legit coach. I had a lot of respect for what he's done there and at previous stops....enjoy his pressers and on-field interviews as well.

I take it we have some guys locked down already. My guess is Mario isn't letting them announce until after the game
IU / Miami is also not an apples-to-apples comparison. We aggressively recruit HS, retain HS-recruited players, and expect them to be the next man up (e.g. Lightfoot, Lowe, etc.). IU, on the other hand, does not aggressively recruit HS and has to replace a lot of one-year rentals. Out of necessity, they allocate much more of their budget to the transfer portal.

Miami aggressively recruits the trenches out of high school. We dont exactly set the world on fire recruiting the skill position talent. That needs to be amended or upgraded thru the portal. We do it at qb...proved we can at cb + safety but are mid to slightly above at wr and rb.

31st best High School recruiting class gives you a lot of leeway to add Transfers.

Cignetti will have to hit on the Portal every year to sustain this - although he probably will.
Couldn’t agree more…

Just like FSU, that portal with no HS recruiting only gets you so far…

He’s definitely a character…

But I agree they’re definitely striking while the iron is hot and it’s hot has heck right now…

They’re gonna have to tighten up their HS recruiting eventually to sustain it though…

2 of our top 3 WRs are portal players. A third, Tony Johnson, has played well when healthy. Sam Brown Jr was a highly ranked portal WR but wasn’t as good as advertised; still had solid year.

Damien Martinez had a strong year last year. So strong, in fact, that his presence alongside the South Florida HS recruited talent caused our previous portal running back to transfer because of a lack of carries. We had Henry Parrish for two seasons and his numbers at Miami & Ole Miss were close to identical.

Chamar Brown arguably just saved our season with his third down catch. Also had big games against UF and ND.

We are doing well at the portal at those two spots too.

Outside of the portal, Colbie Young & Isaiah Horton were just top two WRs for Georgia and Alabama. Toney Tone is Baby Jesus. TBD on the other two freshmen although they look good to me. Jojo is still tbd w/ some flashes. Ray-Ray, Ny Carr and Robby didn’t amount to much here tho, I agree.

Fletcher is our postseason MVP so far so that’s good enough for me as far as HS goes. Pringle, like Lyle last year, looks very promising.
