Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

Sneaky little loophole they tried to get away with there.
Can't you then just make sure there is 3rd party NIL to begin with and make sure not to reference it in the agreement as it an offset? Meaning this will just lead to lower revenue sharing amounts per player on average?

There's no cap on outside NIL.

I don't read this as all 3 party NIL offsets the 25m. If so, one person with say, 10M outside NIL would now eat 50% of the budget

2 of our top 3 WRs are portal players. A third, Tony Johnson, has played well when healthy. Sam Brown Jr was a highly ranked portal WR but wasn’t as good as advertised; still had solid year.

Damien Martinez had a strong year last year. So strong, in fact, that his presence alongside the South Florida HS recruited talent caused our previous portal running back to transfer because of a lack of carries. We had Henry Parrish for two seasons and his numbers at Miami & Ole Miss were close to identical.

Chamar Brown arguably just saved our season with his third down catch. Also had big games against UF and ND.

We are doing well at the portal at those two spots too.

Outside of the portal, Colbie Young & Isaiah Horton were just top two WRs for Georgia and Alabama. Toney Tone is Baby Jesus. TBD on the other two freshmen although they look good to me. Jojo is still tbd w/ some flashes. Ray-Ray, Ny Carr and Robby didn’t amount to much here tho, I agree.

Fletcher is our postseason MVP so far so that’s good enough for me as far as HS goes. Pringle, like Lyle last year, looks very promising.
None of these players were or are game breakers. Great offenses produce explosive plays and so do great players at the skill. Damien Martinez was so good that he went in the 6th rd of the nfl draft. He was better than Fletcher and provided many more chunk runs. We arent talking about coming up big in a few spots or being functional at wr and rb. We dont scare any one at wr or rb and haven't in a long time. We have lacked speed and consistent play making at both of these positions . We haven't had an all ACC 1st team rb or wr not to mention a nationally acclaimed player at these positions. Mali is an under neath rac monster but does all his work in the short to barely intermediate pass gm. He is no dominating 3 level target. Next level wrs aren't easily erased from games and our rbs are average in the ACC. Claiborne and Brown were better by far than any one we put on the field this year. You are confusing being functional in an offense and being elite at the positions as far as production + talent.

You didn’t say not elite. You said mid to slightly above average. Which is why I replied. I’d definitely put Caleb Daniels and Damien Martinez above that category. I already mentioned Brown’s big plays, and Keelan Marion brought speed & consistent play.

We haven’t had Jeremiah Smith clone or a rb as great as Duke Johnson since he left, I agree. Our first team all-acc rb unfortunately played WR here (Brashard Smith). We have had back to back first team all-acc WRs (Restrepo/Malachi) and if Toney Tone isn’t nationally acclaimed idk who is.

Making the opponent scared of them is subjective. Mark Fletcher by himself ran for 40 more yards against A&M, on half the carries, than ND’s two top running backs. That should scare Ole Miss and should have scared OSU; who he was committed to. I like our rb room more than you do, that’s fine.

Personally, I don’t want running backs that rush for 20 to 27 yards on 14 carries as Brown and Claiborne did against Pittsburgh and FSU. That’s just me though.

Who are you referring to as the success stories at CB and Safety because it appears by the standards you’re speaking of, only K. Scott qualifies. Mish Powell wasn’t even drafted compared to Martinez although I consider both of those transfers to be successful. Does Thomas not qualify since he was only second team all-acc as a safety?

There are two sides to this. The calm side is saying “relax man, look at the last 2 portal classes especially QB.” The non calm side is saying “we almost missed out on Ward and almost went into the spring with only Reese and if we did not land Beck, we would have been SOOL again.”
Inside you there are two wolves.. I've fed one and now I'm feeding the other.
