Listening to Dabo presser

I’m all for looking at the stats. But am I wrong for feeling like it wasn’t that great once you take away the 80 yard Breshard run? Then is 131 yards in 37 attempts 3.54 a carry, which is still better than Clemson obviously.

Also we didn’t let Emory get sacked vs a good DL which is huge!

doesn't make sense to take away big plays and leave only the less successful ones, the OL executed very well on that play so that's why it's part of the average

to your point, wasn't much traction in the three quarters besides that play, but I would be interested to see the stats on runs in the 4th quarter because that's when we had our success and pounded it down their throats

That’s how averages work.

He mentioned a couple things that caught me off guard. The first one being this was the first game they were out gained all year. Even in the FSU game they held them to 17 points of offense in regulation, 311 yards and 22 yards rushing on 20 carries. Which is crazy with all the multiple looks they give in the run game mixed with a dual threat qb.

Later in the presser he discussed their running game and how we dared them to pass. We stayed in a bear front most of the night with one safety deep. I thought the media misspoke when they asked about holding them to 31 yards on 34 carries ( 0.9 ypc). But that was in fact true. Lastly he mentioned our 200 + yards rushing while they were selling out to stop it. I would’ve never expected that with a first time starting Fr qb.

Which leads me to my point. This isn’t your same Clemson from years past but don’t get it twisted , that’s a playoff caliber defense we pushed around even though they were playing downhill. With a very good good secondary. Their Ol although not great but more than good enough got mauled by our DL , with most of our starters playing majority of the snaps. Clemson had outplayed most of their opponents this year but they continue to have the same issues, mostly losing the turnover battle and having a flaming idiot at qb. That trend continued Saturday. I will say the biggest area they’ve fallen off is skill guys out wide. They don’t have their typical dudes stretching the field. I think the air is coming out of the ballon there.

This game showed what I’ve been saying since the summer “ this Miami team is different , from leadership , mimd set on down to work ethic. They’ve had multiple times to fold camp , quit and they refuse to do it. They continue to be resilient.

Now the next test will be how do they handle success and a big win. Can we start a trend of consistency, which is an important step with building a program. After UVA’s win this weekend the coaches shouldn’t have to try too hard to get players attention.

I know cade has talent, and he played relatively well

I just can't imagine ignoring a 2 time national championship winning HC's play call when you've only started a few games (and won nothing of value for Clemson as a starter up until this point) and proceed calling your own number to decide the game and being wrong and losing the game

what would this board be like if TVD did that? sheesh
Well, that would mean we've won 2 more national championships in the last 13 years haha. Seriously, I have no doubt TVD would get some death threats

If my quick math is correct, it was 70 on 22 carries in the 4th and OT, so actually a bit lower per carry than for the game. But it was pretty much 3, 4, or 5 yards every single play with very few negative plays, so we stayed ahead of the sticks and were just picking up 3rd and short time and time again.

That’s how averages work.
Well vs the other two ACC opponents it was 3.45 which is inline with the 3.54 we averaged without the explosive run. I’m just trying to point out the one explosive run we’ve had all season night skew the game stats a little. Let’s hope we can continue to pop some long runs the rest of the season.

I think the context of it being a loaded box because of them not respecting our true freshman qb making his first start and everybody in the world knowing we were going to keep running it and them not being able to stop it was more impressive than the total yards or ypc

Yep, completely agree. Same situation last year and we had 30 on 24 carries. Trench play was incredible to close the game Saturday.

We were a couple of ankle tackles and a slip from running for over 300….

Fsu has so much lining up for them. Just like Duke losing their qb.

Duke losing their star QB was so frustrating. And LSU and Clemson self destructing. Almost a Notre Dame like season. ... We need to hit them in the mouth like we did Clemson.

I agree with this. But we really need backs that can take it to the house a few times in those 38 carries. The only guy who did isn’t even a RB. I’ve seen all I ever want to see of Don Chaney Jr. I’m not thrilled with any of them really other than Chris Johnson & Fletcher. I’m assuming Citizen is done.

well our #1 RB was out of the game... also I get the admiration of Chris Johnson but he's not as good as the other backs(yet), which is why he isn't playing.

don nearly broke two of them but got caught on the shoe strings. specifically there was one where we were on their 35 or so and nothing but pay dirt but he got tripped up at the last second.

breaking long ones is a lot harder with so many in the box and the defense expecting it

Yeah I get it. But CJ is explosive enough to get touches. He will bust something in 7-8 touches. I get his pass protecting might be lacking but we didn’t need that Saturday. Yeah Don got tripped up and so does Parrish every time. That’s what average backs do. They break runs for 13 yards. Parrish has been tripped up by the last defender 50 times in last 2 years. Probably not much of an exaggeration. If that game Saturday was against a Tobacco Road team the refs would have never let us 3-4-5 yard it down the field. Holding holding holding.

And having to get by Trotter Jr. That was a very very experienced Clemson D front 7.

I have to admit i was a lil wrong on them out wide. @Nick_conlan @SouthCak Cane i cant remember who else is from SC and told me b4 the season their wideouts were worse than i thought.
Yall were right...thats their main issue on o. We have a better wr room than them.

I guess with Wesco and TJ Moore help is on the way in this class.

Their wrs though rated high are overrated. Their offensive system is antiquated and gimmicky typically under DABO but they USUALLY are able to get some 1 on 1 50 balls or have guys that can take a bubble screen all the way. They for sure dont have that on o.

Also for whatever reason maybe hype they think Shipley is some beast but he has the turning radius of a cadillac brougham. Dude is and like ive always thought..MID as a player. Mans ceiling is Mark Walton..but they would have you think he is CJ Spller.

Their defense is still playoff level and they are still recruiting that way currently on D.

The culture is different frfr. I said it after the A&M game after being Down early then thoroughly out playing and dominating the LOS..the vision Mario had for this is different…the leadership is tangible. So all the fans who have a issue can sit back ***** n moan all they want..but all I want to do is enjoy this process as much as possible
