Lightfoot personal foul video

QBs are defenseless players after all turnovers and have the strictest blocking protections. To block a qb it has to clearly be from the front, not low, and they likely have to be near the play. And if they get lit up/end up on the ground unless they are near the action it will always be a fouls. Yall can complain about it all you want but a qb running in pursuit 20+ yards away is going to always be protected and for good reason - so they aren’t targeted. How would yall like to lose your starting qb on a play after they threw a pick where he was nowhere near the action?

Secondly at best you would say this block is from the side. Could prob argue it’s from back-side more than front-side too…But because it was 20+ yards from the play, many refs could call that a block in the back if they choose to.

Again, Lightfoot had no idea where Wilson was, wasn’t looking down the field.

So now you’re telling me he’s supposed to magically know where Wilson is, without looking, or he has to stop everything he’s doing let the quarterback drill him with his helmet, while he’s looking down the field to try to spot Wilson..

Or he’s just supposed to give up when the QB is leaning into him and getting ready to clock him. GTFOH

Nothing short of a Maude ban will accomplish this.

Do you want to inject any more subjectivity into the conversation? Rules are rules. Lightfoot played within the rules.

You cannot play based on what you “feel” the refs will call.
So rules are officiated on a subjective basis by the refs? Lmao it’s literally almost always the refs opinion whether it amounts to a foul. Thats why most calls aren’t reviewable

You realize by stating this, you’ve completely invalidated your entire argument right?

“Against ND or in a playoff game regardless which conferences refs are in charge, does that get called? Yes or no?

Be honest.”

How am I to “be honest” about a hypothetical future subjective call?

Because refs always default to protecting QBs… seems obvious. And the leagues/conferences/teams WANT the QBs protected

They’re not protecting against targeting? That’s called subjectively all the time. Nobody knows what the ref will or will not call. **** they don’t even call legitimate penalties consistently. You pretending to “know” what will be called is asinine.

You play within the stated rules. That’s it.

What if, in your hypothetical, Wilson ends up dropping the ball short of the goal line and Carr recovers because Lightfoot didn’t block him because he was scared of a flag?

You’d be on here calling him an idiot for not blocking an eligible player.

Uh what do you mean QBs aren’t protected against targeting? They quite literally are always protected against that lmao. There isn’t a play more guaranteed to draw a flag than targeting a qb when he is giving himself up (aka defenseless)

So in your scenario the qb isn’t over 20 yards away? I like how yall keep acting this qb was anywhere near the play. Let me ask you if this qb was running in pursuit but 70 yards away and this happened is that okay?

Regardless there not a point in me co to using with this if yall can’t even say QBs are strictly protected.

You’re just misinterpreting now. I meant refs. Their job is to enforce targeting and it’s called differently on a weekly basis. So for you to claim you “know” how something will be called is ridiculous.

What if he is 20 yards away and the only unblocked player, and Wilson pulls a hammy and can’t recover? Distance doesn’t matter.

Are those against QBs?

Yes distance does matter. They don’t throw the penalty after whatever happens to the ball carrier. They throw it when/where/how the qb gets hit/blocked.

They’re not a QB at that point. They’re a defender and treated as such. The distance between them and the ball carrier is irrelevant if they’re in pursuit or engaging another player. Anything can happen and if they’re not just standing around, they’re block eligible.

Again, if Lightfoot had done nothing and ended up concussed from a blindside hit you’d feel differently. You’re being incredibly disingenuous and emotional. This entire discussion is based on your personal feelings.

Your premise that distance from the ball carrier matters is immediately invalidated with the scenario of an INT. If a QB throws an INT 20+ yards down field, are they not allowed to be blocked considering the ball carrier would be coming towards them? Does the other teams player have to wait a few yards before blocking them?

Would that be more subjectivity up for official review? Was the QB within x yards of the ball carrier at the time of block?

This made legit zero sense. How would Lightfoot have gotten blindsided by the QB? And any blindside on him would be a penalty on the oppponent…. Genuinely don’t get what you think you’re saying. And you not knowing the difference between being 20 yards BEHIND the play vs in front is also very dumb.

Anyways just repeating same stuff when the fact is QBs always have been and will be protected, and Lightfoot needs to be smarter in that situation

Yes, this would be a blindside hit following coach Cali’s rule book. Lightfoot wouldn’t be paying attention under your tutelage. Are you SURE a blindside would be called? “Be honest”

Let’s break this down per Cali:

A legal block becomes illegal if it’s a QB active in the play (wrong)

A legal block becomes illegal if they are an arbitrary 20+ yards away, but ALWAYS if the ball carrier has passed the blocker (made up)

A legal block is legal on an INT until the ball carrier is within 20 yards of the QB (made up)

A legal block may or may not be called depending on the ref, but players should always anticipate a subjective bad call (retarded, but Cali knows if and when it will be called)

A player cannot be aware of their surroundings to protect themselves because one of the players might be a QB (retarded)
