Let's talk about Jarren...

WTF another #1 pick who had a great college career? Can somebody please list me some guys who threw pretty balls in college but sucked? Cmon mane this is not the NFL we talkin about college qbs right??
Chris Leak. Prettiest ball I've seen on any level. Didn't really achieve success until he platooned in Urban's offense

I am always a bit concerned about the eye test of onlookers and the reports that come from them when that QB can not beat out bums for playing time...even as a true freshman.

**** Ryan Leaf threw a good looking ball. I remember thinking that when the Bucs brought him into camp when he was on his way out of the league. Completely different story when the lights came on, of course.

In practice? We've had a few ourselves. Kyle Wright was all world in HS, even started his career well here but ultimately didn't have it. Stephen Morris had a cannon and threw a beautiful deep ball but never put it all together. Jacory also threw some great passes here but wasn't consistent.
ill give you Morris ball was pretty and release was quick, wasnt that accurate tho. Jacory was noodle armed. KW2M I never saw the hype

We arent getting it I see

Robert Marve threw a beautiful ball.

Can we be done with this thought exercise that throwing a pretty ball is all that matters for a successful QB? Is Deondre Francois what we're looking for? Sitkowski has a cannon, too.

There are a lot of guys that can sling the ball that didn't make good QB's. Knowing where the ball is going, what the defense is giving you, and just having game experience are just important for a QB.

Ken Dorsey had a noodle arm and threw some absolute ducks, but he knew timing and where to go with the football.

Jaren might turn out to be a great QB, but throwing a “pretty ball” in the warmup session the media watches is meaningless.

I'm not advocating for anyone but this Greentree hype about the beauty of the ball that Jarren throws seems verrrry similar to what we used to hear about Perry last year.

And you're right about the media analysis for the most part too as they'd get collectively moist watching some kid throw the tightest of spirals with a Nerf Turbo football on the sideline vs actually having any idea what Enos is looking for in a singular moment or what he's been actually working with them on.

Based on practice reports (even going as far back as last season), it seems that Jarren Williams is consistently regarded as having the best arm talent in the QB room. "Most accurate" and "throws the prettiest ball" are two observations that I've seen attributed to him repeatedly so far throughout Spring and now Fall...so what exactly is he missing? Is it decision-making, feel for the game, lack of pocket awareness? I would assume he has decent legs and can run if needed, but I also recognize that he is probably inferior to Tate in this regard. Where does Kosi outshine him though? Any insight here would be appreciated.

After watching the Spring Game in Orlando, I am not annointing JW prematurely.

More like a bottle rocket shot out of a coors light with his eyes closed.

How do you know he doesn't? What are you basing that on?

Martell has done a better job this season with social media posts about how dedicated and hard worker he is.

But recall, Jarren did same thing last season

Experience. The only way you start a kid with zero experience on national TV against your most hated rival in a season opener is because he's either miles better than your other options or you have no other choice.

He's not miles better (yet), and Enos has another choice (2, actually). It may be Jarren's time soon, but it's not yet.

And before everyone yells about Tate's experience, he has played in 6 college games, he has played in something other than total mop-up duty, and he's a year older aka more exposure to the college game. I'd certainly not call him "experienced", but he's got more than Jarren.

Well put.

If Miami was playing two scrubs to open the season, Williams might've had a shot at getting the nod—but you have Florida in Orlando, an off week and then a road trip to North Carolina.

Experience counts big time right now and Williams would have to be head and shoulders above the others to beat them out as a kid who only took a few snaps against Savannah State last year.

Winning the starting job - or even QB2- will make a HUGE difference in the confidence factor for JW. The kid had a crap year with the Richts. Could he have handled it better? sure. But the fact remains they did nothing to further his development. In fact, I would argue that they reduced the level of confidence he had in himself by the way he was treated. He KNOWS he has the skills. He watched Perry and Rosier struggle all. season And never got a shot. I think winning this job -or the backup job- would give him a little more of the swag we all see in Martell that comes from confidence.

Hasn't been able to handle the pressure in a live pocket. It may come with time and the only way to learn the skill is being put in the fire. The speed on a college game: having to go through the reads much faster due to a 2-3second pass rush.

He excelled in this area in high school. His team had a poor offensive line and scheme much like last year's Canes and he still made stuff happen. I assume his issues have been more of the latter - playbook, reads - versus poise and pocket management issues (something Perry has always struggled with).

Kid should have played last year and a lot of these questions about him might have been answered,he might have shown he could play P5 CFB and we may not be 3 weeks away from a game with out hated rival without a definite QB named...

Mark you did A LOT of good things while you were here and I thank you but you and your idiot son Fcked that up...Williams should have played in several games after the season got to the point it was over..
