Let’s be honest

We would’ve lost in OT. We weren’t stopping them. The defense was being held together with duct tape and prayer.

There wasn’t any play calls that I could remember that screamed let’s kick a FG. And then that 3rd down to Marion took all doubt away. Once we were that close, with timeouts and enough time, you had to get 6.

We need a 1,000,000% react button for this

Anything can happen but if we went to overtime we were losing this game most likely

I’m sure our coaches were thinking the same thing

Not me - particularly the fact Ole Miss has a stud kicker and our D was scrambling and dropping like flies with injuries. I even told my buddy that i wouldn't be shocked for them to go on 4th and short over a FG attempt if that situation arose to end it in regulation.

If Ole Miss would have failed the 2 point conversion I think we could have played it safe. Or at least that scenario would have tempted the coaching staff to go conservative.

But once they converted and made it a three point margin there was no doubt in my mind that we would try a long drive and go for the victory

Exactly this. Keeping up in OT was a tall order and you’re leaning into a tired Ole Miss D that last drive so they played it perfectly to go for the win.
