LB Kamal Bonner commits to Miami

Didn't the Louisville crowd feel the same about Alderman? And isn't our real hole at MLB not Sam?

I think Bonnr has played some Mike

I'm surprised we didn't go harder after Taggert. Pretty good player from what I can tell.

I’m very intrigued to see what Heatherman does with the LB group. To me Popo has been the only real MLB option on the team for a while now. Not saying he’s produced or been the guy just saying I thought coming out of high school he was headed that way. Could be way off though

I’m not a “defer everything to the coaches” guy but when it comes to LBs Heatherman gets some benefit of the doubt for a while

It certainly can’t get much worse so let him cook and see how it plays out

I also expect to see a lot of Chase Smith assuming he's fully healthy. Could be interesting. But as far as playoff-level talent is concerned, we're hoping one or more of these players delivers on their high-school projections. I wish we had given Heatherman just one proven Alpha.

Given that we are in nickel most of the time, we are probably carrying too many LBs.
By my count there are 10 LBs on the roster. Playing time will be difficult for some of the younger players if we bring in another backer.

Popo
Wes
Alderman
Pruitt
Smith
Hayes
Bonner
Wiley
Washington (hurt)
Marcelin (hurt)

Smith has received enough hate from the fans over the years so I won’t say anymore

I just hope that’s wrong

I was definitely hopeful Popo and maybe Hayes could be those guys at MLB. Hopefully they're healthy and ready to contribute because I see more "chase and tackle" types compared to strong, downhill LBs on this roster. I think Wiley could develop into a legit MLB, too, but that's asking a lot from a TF.

I don’t know much about Hayes but Popo intrigued me from high school because I saw him make a lot of high IQ plays. He was like a bigger version of the kid we lost to Oregon last year

I saw him do the same as a freshman in limited snaps. Sounds dumb but a lot of LBs I see us bring in don’t know how to navigate space especially going backwards and keeping their eyes in the backfield. I saw him do that quite a bit

Admittedly the entire defense was just such a ****show I kinda threw my hands up at any hopes of improvements last year

Yup…I think even the staff may be surprised that none of Washington/Aldermann/C.Smith transferred out.

I assume coaching will be better, the canes just need someone to be as good or better than Maugioa. Which even though he had his flaws, he was a good college LB and produced. Hopefully someone can step up. Getting a guy like Toure would relieve the need for someone to step up.

We just got to put faith in recruiting and hopefully some of the young LBs or a Chase Smith steps up.

Not the elite LB we needed, but we'll see what the new defensive staff can do with him
