Latest on McIntosh, Norton, and Jackson

If McCloud doesn’t improve multifold between now and next year Steed is going to eat his lunch. It’s one thing to look the part. You gotta be able to make football plays though.

Mccloud was downright horrible for most of the season.

Kinda scary when you think about how much public praise he got from Diaz in the spring and fall.

wow then all 3 are making the right decisions. Mcintosh should leave if he is a first 2 days pick as it sounds like he will be . The others should stay. It never makes sense to leave if you are a top 3 round lock .

If that happens it will give Miami 9 returning starts, 8 returning backups and a sick defensive recruiting class coming in. This D could be scary good.

When you factor in the possibility of adding Tyson Campbell & Patrick Surtain to this CB rotation, this could be the deepest defense that Miami has had since the early 2000's.

Best looking 3-deep on paper that we've had in years - since the early 2000s. And that's the kind of depth we will need in order to hang with Clemson.

The success of the Defense will come down to the DTs. Will Norton stay 1 more year? Can Willis finally give us something on the field? Is Jon Ford ready to take that next step? Can Tyreic Martin give us something - anything?

I finally feel comfortable with the talent level and depth of the other positions though so props to Richt for the roster overhaul.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Derrick Smith and Romeo Finley playing some SAM

Something you've heard?

I think if the incoming DB FR are as good as advertised, Smith would be a weapon at LB. He didn't look out of place when they let him play at the end of the year - having a guy with those coverage skills at LB would be a difference maker.

If you're leaving this program early for the league. Your name should hold up next the the greats that have played your position at this program.

I think Redwine will get replaced....

Past couple games Redwine been playing good.... I don't see anyone over taking his starting spot unless they play out of this world during spring

Exactly Redwine has played like one of the best safeties in the conference this year especially down the stretch. I don't see anyone surpassing him unless Derrick Smith just turns into a star player next season... which is possible but Redwine will alsoimprove a lot as well.

Regardless our safety depth is going to be stacked no matter who starts next to Jaquan Johnson.

Willis, Norton, Ford, Bethel, Silvera is a great group on paper

yes, but don't you agree that we need to add another stud interior guy in february? silvera can't be the only one.

Of course you want another one ideally, but I don’t see them adding an instant impact DT from now to signing day other than Silvera.

Will Tyreic Martin ever be a contributor? He was a Kool recruit.

He was a warm body fill by Kool...essentially not Kool caliber, but the staff came in so late for the 16 class that they needed practice bodies...maybe he surprises, but I see him as a practice player just like Fines...still important to have though

That’s good to hear. We have the depth at Safety to move some pieces around next year. Have to get the best 11 on the field.

RJ was the number #71 DE coming out of high school and weighed in at 240. Norton was listed as an OG coming out of high school. Its always good to get highly rated DT's but you can also help yourself by finding big talented guys who can be taught to play.

RJ's recruitment two years ago was a lot like Dee Wiggins' this year. Every local knew that the kid was going to be special, but for some reason, his recruitment never picked up nationally.

If there is anyone in America who can find under-the-radar DT's, it's coach Kool. Trust.

Agree with you on D Wiggins too. Kid is gonna be a player for us.

Great that this defense is gonna be nasty BUT still gonna need the offense to pick up a **** first down every now and then to get them some rest......

And who are all the "under-the-radar" DTs that Kuligowski has found before?

All his first rounders were DEs except for Sheldon Richardson (one of the top-ranked DTs his senior year) who was from his backyard (St. Louis). And he didn't get to Missouri until after 2 years of JUCO in California.

At this point, he's been far better at finding and producing DEs.

Hopefully this will change during his stint at Miami.

And hopefully he won't have to look under every rock for DTs. Hopefully he'll grab big-timers from around the country.

rj absolutely has to stay another year to prove that he can perform when he's going to be every offense's focal point next season. he has such a unique build and skill set at defensive tackle that just has to be validated by pro scouts that might be on the fence about one good season and one great season. think john randle, but 6'5" and with a national spotlight.

If you switch jobs and you take a player with you, you are pretty confident he is more than a "warm body fill".

He's probably a pet project we shouldn't expect much from early in his career, but I don't think a guy like Kuligowski would take him without having a plan or thinking he has some talent to contribute.

Strongly disagree.

Getting a top-rated local DT is nice. But there are far more top-rated DTs around the country.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Miami as a DT school. We have 2 in the HOF and Wilfork will be the third. And Brown may have had a chance to be the fourth. And we've had others who produced well in the pros, too.

Get the job done.

Wimp womp womp! Kool has to do better than 1 elite DT per class.

Setting our expectations pretty high aren't we. There's less then 10 elite DTs in the country each year and you expect to get 2 of them. I think you're throwing around elite too loosely. We would be sitting pretty good if we get 1 elite each year (5*) combined with someone who is merely good/very good (4*) that didn't have to play as a freshman.

Who's talking about a local DT. Nationwide there are not many DTs that are "truly" elite. While they may not be as hard to project on the next level as a QB or OL, even Butch said, because of there scarcity, they were one of the hardest to recruit.

And yes I well aware of our history. Let me remind you that one of our HOFers came in as a TE Russell Maryland wasn't highly regarded. Cortez Kennedy was a JUCO transfer that fell through the cracks. Even in the 70's, while it was a different world, none of the DTs (Reuben Carter, Don Latimer, Eddie Edwards, Don Smith) were recruited by the big guys. In fact our first All American (Al Carapella) was a DT that also overlooked by the major powers. If anything, Miami made their name with DTs by superior talent evaluation and development.

If you really believe there are plenty of "elite" DTs out there nation wide, you are tossing the label too cheaply.

You sure abut Ruben Carter? Thought he was an elite HS prospect back in the early 70s out of Stranahan HS. The late Lester Williams, out of Carol City, was the #1 high school DT prospect in the nation. And, he lived up to that hype.

And don't forget Jim Burt, who was a big part of that Giant team that won the Sup in 1986.

Look them up yourself.

Prior to this news, I had on one of my Miami windbreaker jackets. Upon reading the OP, I have now put on the matching Miami pants. I'm about to walk over to my gaytor neighbor house just to say, "*** you"

Come on. Be civil. That's not the Canes way of doing things.

At least wish the fellow Happy Holidays first. Then a F^ck You is completely acceptable.

Lol........*** that!

College football better hope and pray we don’t get all three back and very good Qb play next year...all I’m saying
